One of the greatest tracks from one of very greatest Soundtracks of one the very finest Films ever made. John Williams helped shape popular culture in a good way. This song brought inner peace to many couples.
It only shows up at the VERY end of the credits, when everyone would have left the theatre. I was 8 at the end of 1978. If my folks had taken me to see this epic, and I’d seen that there was a sequel coming, I would have lost my mind!!! In the end my dad did take me to see Superman II though to be fair
OMG!!!! This comment made me cry! This is exactly the memory I have every time I listen to this! That single line of text brought me so much joy and excitement and to follow on the heels of this magical score was just too much for my young mind to take. It has stuck with me all of these years!
Superman Is The Hero Who Saved The Heart And Minds Of People. Marvel and DC comics did a great job at portraying heroes. Everyone needs a hero in their lives and Superman saves the day by educating people of what it means to save people, help, comfort and protect. 3 Cheers For DC Comics and Marvel and all the fans. May you all keep the righteous, loving and caring character of Superman alive forevermore. Kudos to the actors and actresses and movie development teams. Cheers !
BMX bikes with my friends....my first experience of cinema, my very first kiss with Katy Roberts (and my mate Malcolm asking her if she'd go out with me)....she said "where we going?" and asked her Mum, homemade frozen lollies, messing around in an inflatable pool with my sister and parents, Sam, the Labrador from next door who showed his face through the fence when he wanted a biscuit....and the scene of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder flying together under the moonlight. It was 1978....and I was 6. Simple times....left, forever in my heart.
tonight, i became an 11 year old boy, so innocent in love but knowing it will be wonderful, all because this genius of a man made me believe a man could fly and fall in love....
Remember when this was one of the Sunday night movies on TV back in the day?? When I hear this score, I think of better days as a kid watching this in the den with my family. Music is such a wonderful reminder of things like that!
I remember the Sunday night movie of Superman also. Very exciting back in the day. Nothing has ever come close to being that exciting to me. And this theme was my first understanding of themes and leitmotifs in music.
How our vision of superheroes has changed, not for the better. Give me the noble, gentle, kind, forthright albeit “simple” Christopher Reeve Superman I saw as a boy. That’s a role model we all should aspire to be like! So glad I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s.
He and Jerry Goldsmith just write the greatest love themes, Jerry Goldsmith's Ilia theme and this theme go well together, I often wonder if Ilia's theme or something very similar to it would have been Jerry Goldsmith's Love theme for Superman and Lois had he scored Superman like he was originally meant to.
Funny thing is Jerry Goldsmith was originally meant to score Superman after having worked with Richard Donner on The Omen which won him his only Oscar in 1976, but had to pull out due to commitments to Boys from Brazil so he recommended John Williams, then John Williams became unavailable and then Jerry Goldsmith was available again, but then Goldsmith became unavailable again and finally John Williams wrote the score. The reason why delays kept occurring was because of production of the film dragging on for a long time. In my opinion Jerry Goldsmith could have written a great score for Superman.
Probably due to the now-matter-of historical-record conflicts between the Salkinds and Donner, which meant Donner ended up being dismissed before the second film was complete, which is why Lois’ appearance is different in certain scenes and why there are 2 versions of Superman II. Both movies were being filmed together but another director completed part 2
