I watched Hetalia borderline obsessively as a kid, and I will say when I think of it now I remember not just the genuine laughs I had but also the, unfortunately, wrong things, between Germany asking if Italy had any Jews for him to gas or literally the entirety of the BTT, whose whole joke was, "They're rapists', at least from what I remember and I also remember the fandom just really being Not Great for a LONG time, between doing the Nazi salute and pointing fake guns at iirc a mosque. I might give it a rewatch, hopefully both got better
Yeah, the dubbing is a lot more toned down and most of te fandom is more left, but there are some problematic people, particularly some proshippers and such, but it's a lot better than when it was then
@masterfulmoonlighter5402 mostly, I mean the issue korea was real and hima had plenty of problematic content of his own w the btt and others, but most of that wasn't put in the anime. The dubbers however pulled another ghost stories w Hetalia, but not as extreme, and that's how we ended up with the "jokes" about Jews and middle eastern suicide bombers. But I think the ones making fun of white people and imperialism like the one in this video are good bc it's punching up instead of down, it's good satire imo. I'd say it was germany's va or whoever decided his lines that was the biggest problem.
