Hi Matt, great video! I just got my technician license and I've already started studying for my general. I was watching this video and was surprised to hear you were near Zelienople - I'm just up the road in Connoquenessing. I have a Baofeng and I just ordered a xeigu g90 (should be here this week) - I was wondering if there's any good clubs in your area? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carmen W3BCN
Hi Carmen. Congrats on the ticket! You should have no trouble getting into the W3UDX repeater (Butler county club) on 147.36 (131.8 pl and + offset). I monitor that repeater most weekdays, and there are others on it during drive times. The most active group in our area is the WW3AAA club. You may or may not be able to hit the 147.135 repeater, but it's also available via Echolink as node K3UKE.
Hi. Very nice presentation. I have 3 questions. 1- why did you install electrical switch ? 2- I have a Ridgid vacuum amd it has a port that blows the air out. I did not see any holes for air going out. Can you please explain? 3- would it help if I put the box inside another box ? I appreciate your input.
Which exact plate did you get? I followed your link, ordered the plate and it did not fit. Checked it with the image on your video and it’s not the same. Please help.
Hi Matt, the 2024 expedition model has a lot of improvements to set it up faster. According to Calums website the position of the elements seems to be in the right place to avoid interaction between some elements or bands regarding tuning. Nice demo video. 73 Phil ON4VP
Had a conversation with him about this after I posted the video. Biggest change is the driven plate. All of his comments got deleted in his big channel snafu last year unfortunately. As for the element locations it's one of those "you can measure it with a meter, but it'll never show up in your log" things. It's a little more critical on the larger models with more elements.
I use controllers that I built myself based on the ESPixel Stick concept. There are two controllers for the tree, each of which is a single port, so each 1/2 of the tree shows up as an IP Address/Controller in XLights.
Im going to say the guy that answered you back had to be staged ive had my license for 3 months now yhere is over 16 repertors in a 10 mile radius. And i have yet to get anyone to answer my call Makes me wish i had not wasted my yime or money getting my license or on a radio
I am blessed to have not one but three very active clubs in my area. It takes an active club to have an active repeater. Seek out the groups that run those machines and join at least one of the clubs. Hopefully they do more than just have a meeting once every two months. Look around for the net schedules for these groups too. If nothing else you should be able to find at least one net that you can check into and ask the other locals where/when you might find an active machine. Whatever you do, don't be put off by a lack of 2M activity. HF is where all the ham radio fun is. 10M is wide open these days so you can get started while you work on your general. POTA is your best place to start. Tons of activity and a super friendly bunch. pota.app
5:20 Which wire can make the best reception possible? Can solid non insulated wires make better reception in bad conditions or it doesn't matter? Does the height of the antenna stand matter? I want to have it outdoor to minimalize EMI. Do I really need variable capacitor when I will connect using coaxial cable? Is the grounding important or not that much? My hifi have loop antenna terminal connector. Will it work if I connect coaxial cable?
Thanks for the video. Where do you measure your lengths to ? i.e. is the length of the tuning stub measured from the top of the stub down to the top of the short horizontal piece or to the under side of the horizontal piece (when looking at the antenna in the upright position)?
I've just passed my uk foundation exam, this is going to be my first RF project. I've watched a few videos but yours explained the construction best. Thank you.
They're not as heavy as you might think. They can be moved with the machines still on them, or obviously you can disconnect the machines and take them off.
It was Amazon at the time. Don't think it's available any more. There are other brands, but likely if you want the Bosch you'll end up with an unwanted base.
@@MattHeere My husband contacted DeWalt and is working directly with a guy from there. (While I work in my shop, he has a vp construction desk job. Works out well! 👍🏼😂) I’ll post the final outcome, if you’d like, to be able to help others who are having the same need/issue.
Lost a tire tread on my motorhome. The road service guy showed up with a 2 Ton floor jack. I found my bottle jack had fallen over and leaked all over the compartment that I rarely dig into. I could only get a few inches of travel but was able to screw the threaded cap up and got the tires off the ground (duallie). I have now bled it and put it back in the cabinet and wedged it. I knew how to do this 60 years ago but you can see by my gray hair that some of my grey matter has left the enclosure! Tks for the reminder.
Thank you I knew a choke and filter capiciter were needed some how to smooth the flow of the ripple. I've saw a lot of guys just slapping a bridge on the front of an ac welder, and I'm like there's gotta be a cap or something in there. But i didn't know where in the circuit or values. I'm currently working on a lincoln ac 225 tombstone stick welder. Any advice is greatly appreciated. God bless.
I have a few old AM/FM stereo radios laying around. What's the chances I actually find the variable capacitor you mention? I don't want to go through the trouble of taking the radio apart if it isn't likely to be in there.
Love that mobile J pole. I have been a ham since 1965 and never made one. My ringo ranger got broken in a storm and I think I will build one. They all seem to have wonderful SWR over the band. de WB7ORB
When I did this I found that the half inch lip was a narrow on my test cut. So I made a free-hand pass with the router to make the lip bigger and the opening smaller. Edit: I did not bother bolting mine to the table so I can pull it out and change the speed, the lift sits inside of a box with a dust collection port.
so I just did the exact same thing with mine. What I was wondering is I installed a 1/2" bit and cannot loosen it to get it out, I didn't want to damage the neralling so I was hoping for an easy answer, I guess I am going to have to grab the neralling with a big pair of channel locks and go for it.
Would it be better to use a metal on metal like the diamond bit or a metal file type bit such as used in the automotive grinding tools every time I use the orange or the gray grinding wheels the material eats up the wheel so those types of stones really aren't that effective at removing lots of metal
Thanks very much for your video. Could you please tell me what diameter and cutting length your pattern bit was to cut the final pocket from the template. It looks like 3/4" diameter and 3/4" cutting length in the video but wasn't sure. Thanks.
that's pretty awesome, I'm new ham radio and just got my call sign about a month ago, I'm also from Pa I live in a small town near Somerset. im going to build one and who knows I might be talking to ya soon
Looks well made would love to make it but being a disabled first responder with no drill press I guess this one's out for me. But nice work Matt I bet it works awesome 👍😎
I did one that is 4x4 feet with 4 turns. It worked quite well. My method involved no drilling. or glue I suggest others copy the idea. Imagine you are holding some PVC pipe in your left hand wit a T on top of it. You pass the wire on the side close to you below the T loop it around the T and to behind the pipe in your hand. The result is a wire that doesn't want to slip off the T. This is how I did the 4 corners of the frame. It works fine.
I have had this sander for over 10 years used occassionally i even forgot and left it outside in a light rain once it is a bit underpowered and as stated the v belt tension is super critical. You need some basic mechanical and trouble shooting skills to set up these imported luckily there are Utube how to videos on how to set up and used most any H/F corded power tools. Lately Harbor Freight has risin a lot of its prices and a lot of WEN tool which are a notch higher in qualiy and service. For our budget minded Candian friends buying WEN corded tools off Amazon might be a viable option.
I will admit, as a bigger guy myself, I held my breath when you sat in that tiny chair hihi! Good job on the video Matt, you're helping get Callum a new customer here. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a Rapide.
A common saying used to describe the proper power pole orientation is “red right, tongue top” where “tongue” refers to the metal contact inside the plastic shell. Thus, looking at the open end of the connector, just as you do, the red goes on the right and oriented such that the tongue is at the top of the opening. I suppose there are any number of ways to describe the orientation.
