I've had two SGs, a Special Faded and a 2017 Standard. Both came with 490r and 490t pickups. Those pickups are so uninspiring. The bridge is thin and has gutless while the neck was too warm and muddy. I actually liked the Duncan Custom in mine. I had a set of Pearly Gates in one too that were cool. I ended up getting some hot PAF style humbuckers from Wolfetone and that pretty much took care of that. Also consider I put a pickup ring on the bridge pickup in the Special so that the humbucker was actually in parallel with the strings. One of Angus Youngs main guitars is set up the same way.

Nice demo I like the pedal especially the parametric mid EQ. My only issue is it’s $200. I can get a lot of 90s grunge sounds from a rat or a boss DS1 for under 100 bucks combined.

I think that this guitar is not a real jazz box because I hear it with a too much electric sound and too much crispy for my tastes. It looks (in the sound) like a telecaster. Really. Maybe the reason would be the light string gauge. I don't know. It definitely doesn't remind me of a classic jazz guitar tone (L-5 Wes Montgomery, or ES-175) from 50's or 60's, not even remotely comparable.

It really does manage to sound 100% Rat who ever is playing it. Over all vibe; a Rat with MetalZone eq structure , but because you can get yourself into trouble on a MetalZone , the boost & cut has been limited to about 8dB (by the sound of it) instead of that +/- 12dB danger zone. It's a really cool and practical idea...but, perhaps, the video title may be a little strong.

Which Fender Vintera II Telecasters has the thinnest neck? The '50s, the '60s or the '70s ??? From what I've gathered so far is that the '50's and '70s FV2T have the "U" shape neck and the '60s FV2T has the "C" shape. I don't want a thick neck, so which Tele would you recommend from this series? Or is there a Squier Tele equivalent that you can recommend for me?

You might want to check the Player Series. I had one (back when they were just called Standards) and that neck was great. Thin but not too thin.

@@TheGuitar_Channel I have been looking at the Players Series, but your recommendation is what I needed to hear. Thanks. I've never had a Telecaster, I had one Strat I got new around 1990, but sold it. A lot of major players use Teles and I'm curious about what all the fuss is about them.

It's not the wood that makes any difference in any electric guitar. It might be the amp, speakers, pots, positioning, height, any other number of things, but wood doesn't factor into it. In fact you can make an entirely metal electric guitar, or a carbon fiber, and you won't notice a difference if all the other elements are exactly the same. The issue is that all the other elements won't be exactly the same.

In 1996 I bought a Sovtek Big Muff and I didn't like it. A few years ago I bought a Big Muff Pi modded by Alchemy Audio and love it! These also sound great when you run a Tubescreamer in feont of this.

@gringogreen4719
@gringogreen4719 2 месяца назад
@@mattlawson714 I put my Tubescreamer mini in front of both my Alchemy Audio modded Rat and Big Muff and all of a sudden I had HUGE sounds coming from my board!😳 I was looking at getting super Boutique pedals for a heavier tone. Then I found out that most of them were based on Standard pedals that have been my modded (for the most part). So the option to change diodes through mini switches on the Rat and Big Muff as well as the Dead Bat feature which can starve the pedal for voltage was more than enough especially when combined with the Tubescreamer. I also have an Alchemy Audio modded Danelectro Daddy O on there as well (if Mike Campbell likes it, that says everything there) which is more of a Marshall meets Social Distortion tone. If I run it through an amp that has built in Overdrive there is a fifth option as well. My other two main effects are Reverb (four pedals) and Echo/Delay (three pedals and one of the Reverbs can do this too) for my main board. The only two pedals that are not Dirt, Reverb, or Echo are a Chorus (Danelectro Cool Cat 18 volt) and a Boss TU 3 tuner. I have a Vox VT 30 amp that has built in effects and I don't really use any other effects. I have bought other pedals over the years but I never found a use for them and no longer have them. So I am happy with my current main board.😉👍✨

@mattlawson714 2 месяца назад
@@gringogreen4719 if I get my rat pedal modded, it still has the option to use the original sound, right? I love that thing, it almost gets into fuzz territory, so I could see where that would be a great option. You are right about petals, though: everything is just based on a classic vintage circuit like a fuzz face or the many iterations of the big muff. I have a Bogner Shiva so my favorite tone is cranking it but it’s 80 W and I live in an apartment. Between my rat, my tubescreamer, and this klon klone I built, I can do so much at r reasonable volume. I’m about to build a triangle muff as well as the op-amp version so I can do David Gilmour as well as the Smashing Pumpkins.
@gringogreen4719
@gringogreen4719 2 месяца назад
@@mattlawson714 Well the Alchemy Audio mods are two different diodes as well as a "None" option. They also do a few different upgrades in the pedal to the best of my understanding. So you should be able to select "None" and get a similar sound to the original. You could always just buy a used Rat and just send it to them to mod that and keep your original in stock format. When switching the diodes while the pedal is on, it's not a major tone shift but certain frequencies are either bumped or dropped between the three settings. I have three pedal boards and my OG board from the 1990s and early 2000s has a few of the big boy Danelectro pedals. I have a stock Danecho on that and two of my echo pedals on Main Board are Alchemy Audio modded ones (they self oscillate) and they sound fine, not a huge difference. I bought a Danelectro Daddy O from Alchemy Audio (already modded) and I liked it so much that I sent them the other one from my OG board to mod. Again it has the different chip options in that (no Dead Bat feature which you can buy a standalone Dead Bat and run it in-between the power supply and the pedal if you really wanted that option, they make that too). The modified pedals sounded much richer compared to stock. Is it EXACTLY the same as pre mod? No, but again having two of the same pedal side by side shows what was upgraded and that the original was duller even with "None" selected on the mini toggle. I know what I like and I felt a lot better about doing the Alchemy Audio mods on my pedals because in my view it was being able to put one foot in the original sound and another foot in the Boutique world. I do have a few Boutique pedals on my board (Walrus Audio Slo and an Orion Effekt Kafka) and I have what I call "Elevated Pedals" which are production units but really get close to the Boutique range in terms of price point. What I can say is that they all sound "really good" to "fantastic" whether it's a Standard pedal, a modded one, or a Boutique build. I have about $2800 in my Main Board but I get the sounds I want out of any amp. I also have way more flexibility than I really use which means that down the road when I discover new sounds I want to add to my tones, it most likely is already in there. Because I have a mix of Standard to Boutique pedals I was able to get my board for a pretty good price point, in fact if I put it together today with the same pedals it would be $500-$750 more expensive to do it. The two main reasons being that the same pedals cost more and on some pedals I was able to get a REALLY GOOD PRICE on them that I have never seen again. For $2800 you can get great pedals from Boutique makers but you would be surprised how quickly that amount goes. I also have a "Budget Board" that I made from $30 and $50 pedals exclusively and mounted them to a skateboard deck. That cost me about $325 for the pedals, a new deck, and a daisy chain. It sounds good but not as good as the other boards. You could also go the other way and buy budget pedals that give you options on the Rat. A Joyo Splinter is a Rat based pedal with two mini toggles and it's on my radar to pickup some day. My honest suggestion to you would be buy a used Rat and send it to Alchemy Audio to have it modded, that way you are around $120ish (last time I checked) when it's done. That's what I did on a few pedals that they did not have in stock and I don't regret anything. As far as other companies or builders modding pedals, I couldn't say. I went with Alchemy Audio because Wilco bought pedals from them as well as other players that I have a positive opinion of.

Pro-tip for everyone with SG bridge pup problems: You need to lower the height of the bridge pickup by almost a 1/4", and from there raise it until it's JUST enough gain for you without sounding shrill. Then raise or lower the pole pieced accordingly with a screw driver.
