You guys know that the mechanical sounds in Regan's medical exam scene were overly amplified, right? This whole movie has a fascinating production history of playing with sound and subliminal ambient tracks throughout the film to cause tension & anxiety. Look it up.
"This is the scariest film I've seen in years, the only scary film I've seen in years" Film critics views on The Exorcist. Those comments says it all. All thanks to the brilliant William Friedkin. In 1973 you had the audience thinking it was real because how slow the build up was of Reagan getting possessed which resulted in them fainting, being sick, running out the Cinema. It's how grounded and real that makes it scary. This retrospective view was brilliant. Thanks 👍
I've been thinking about this movie a lot after watching this review. I think it is probably the most influential movie ever made. Not long after this movie, we had the Satanic Panic, and out of the panic came an exponential rise in evangelical fundamentalist. I don't think any other movie had such an impact on society. Spy Kids three is a close second.
I invited a girl over to watch the director's cut of the Exorcist in high school. A few years later I was watching South Park and Butters invited a Hooters girl over to watch the Exorcist. This movie made a lot of Evangelicals and probably caused the "satanic panic".
7:17 Yes he was. He was also the kid in Kindergarten Cop who taught many of us what girls privates were called. 7:27 I LOVED how Freddy looked in this one. Wish that Freddy Vs Jason had used this design.
I suppose it's a hot take, but I loved the look of Freddy in this movie. The hat and trench coat with that bone-type glove was amazing to see when this movie first came out
@@blabbercast I know it's "fan casting”, but I would love to have seen wes Cravens new nightmare Freddy vs the 2009 Friday the 13th Jason in the 2003 Freddy vs Jason
Thank you for covering this trilogy. This movie is pretty much a perfect action movie in every way. And I prefer Maggie G. in this role. Looking forward to the next one.
Man it was nice hearing your guys' recollection of watching this in the theaters. I was sadly too young for my parents to let me see this when it came out (maybe letting a 5-year old watch this would've been a bad idea, after all) , and I didn't really know about this until 28 Weeks Later came out and I was itching to watch more!
The "other worlds" are the other moons of Jupiter. The Jupiter star would be a much smaller star than our sun since Jupiter's mass is significantly smaller than our own sun. That new star wouldn't last for billions of years lacking the fuel needed. The new star wouldn't be a significant source of heating or light on earth due to the fantastic distances between us and Jupiter. Since life had already evolved under the ice, it wouldn't need billions of years to evolve (hopefully) into intelligent life forms. Our solar system wouldn't resemble Tatooine, or any other typical binary star system since the two stars wouldn't be close to each other.
Best compliment I can give is that I don't care anything for comic book-related content. At all. And I love this trilogy. Especially the first two movie. Great retrospective, guys.
My friends and I saw this in the (at the time) Manns Chinese theater in Hollywood. I had to buy the tickets because I was the only one who passed as an adult (we were 13). It was perfect, if you haven’t been there the theater was lined with red velvet. I was the obsessed fan of the books whose friends were on the receiving end of my obsession (and it’s OK because I listen about their obsessions). That time was so magical. I’m so glad this movie and books are part of it
5:14 Wearing gloves when handling old books is actually more damaging than without them and any museum will tell you this. The reason is when you wear gloves you lose some of the feeling in your fingers and that's when rips and tears happen the most. Also, the natural oils on your fingers does not damage the paper in any way.
Always wondered why N'bushe Wright didn't come back as Karen? She seems to have been forgotten about she did survive in the first one neither of you guys mentioned her either wasn't explained
I feel like they overthought this movie. Didn’t need an origin story or great new characters. Just set it in the future during the aliens timeline, have some scientists stumble upon a predator hunting planet with a cave full of alien eggs. Have a cameo from Hicks (yes retcon alien 3 idc) and make most of the story be some R-rated monster violence with minimal background story and we’re good to go
