The official RU-vid Channel for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, which owns and operates Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello. Monticello is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and a United Nations World Heritage Site.
"Thomas Jefferson enslaved over 600 human beings throughout the course of his life. 400 people were enslaved at Monticello; the other 200 people were held in bondage on Jefferson's other properties. At any given time, around 130 people were enslaved at Monticello."
People don't visit Monticello to stare at gardens. They go to learn more about, and to feel connected to, the great American Founder, Thomas Jefferson. A man held in contempt by the people who run Monticello.
Burr doesn't know if Jefferson made a deal or not because he wasn't in the room where it happens, the room where it happens, the room where it happens....
Monticello annual pass holder here. We live a few miles from the Shenandoah National Park. We love each visit as well learn more about Monitcello's, Jefferson's, and America's history. Thanks for this!
While not kept alive and active, it is reborn as a monument to him, and he did see himself as a god, and to something like a temple to him buy people who nearly think of him that way, his home, and also to him, a temple in D.C. of the Roman temple to all there gods, just for him alone. May be why he likes the dome?
How wonderful to be "sitting" in a vegetable garden at Monticello and seeinng the gardeners working. The wonders of modern technology!!! 🙂 I love Thomas Jefferson and his beloved Monticello so much!
I love this video. Excellent idea! Thank you so much for making it. I love visiting Monticello. The guides are all super excellent. Same with the people even at the entrance and the ticketing area. Everyone is so happy and helpful.
Wow, thank you so much for putting this video together. It's a treat to see the dawn view from Monticello on a beautiful sunny morning, without having to spend money on an airfare. 🙂 Monticello is such a special place.
This was terrific. I've been to Monticello three times, but all before the upstairs rooms were part of the tour. Now, I'm just gonna have to go back once more. Very nicely done. Thank you.
This is yet another video I’ve clicked on to learn about the architecture and building how-to of Monticello, yet you’re telling me about slavery. Please stop. Slavery is one piece of the puzzle. It’s not the whole story.

Reading much actually beats academic education. Not surprised by any teachers I've had all the way to graduate school. Sadly, a degree is needed and can make up for will power, but reading and self education beats academic education any time.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate watching these videos. I am in Salzburg Austria. I am a gigantic fan of Thomas Jefferson and America. It's great to see these videos treating Jefferson with the respect that he deserves. I've done a lot of research and am confident that the narrative about Jefferson having children with Sally Hemmings is 100% incorrect. It is a great tragedy that this untruth persists and obscures Jefferson's incredible life and achievements. Jefferson's Declaration of Independance, his law for religious freedom and his University of Virginia were all Game Changers...not only altering the trajectory of the usa, but eventually influencing a large portion of the world's approach to government, religious freedom and education. Jefferson must surely be one of the most significant catalysts for positive change that the world has ever seen.
Let’s start a drinking game. Every time the narrator says “enslaved” we take a shot. Everyone knows that Jefferson owned slaves and that it was morally wrong. How about a video about the theme, structure and history of the garden? It’s famous for many reasons that would be of interest to horticulturalists and gardeners, not just social justice warriors.
