According to the book Hammer of The Gods, “Heavy Metal” was termed colloquially by an east coast DJ, trying to describe the sound of Led Zeppelin’s first album, after he played it.
I truly appreciate your take. But if you want to hear a way more heavier version of this song, check out the version from London Playhouse theater 1969 June 27th . It will not your Led Zeppelin socks off ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UIa3b1A2cF8.htmlsi=P-TijjKMWCGbuU3N
The song "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf has the lyrics, "...heavy metal thunder." My teenage friends and I were calling Zep and Judas Priest and Black Sabbath and Deep Purple "heavy metal" back in '79.' Cheers.
This is metal it's actually proto power metal! And this song inspired Steve Harris from Irion maiden with Zeppelin's galloping power rhythm! And Steve Harris made that galloping rhythm pretty much irion maidens signature!
A levee is an embankment built to prevent the overflow of a river. Consider the levees that broke during the hurricanes down south that pretty much devastated New Orleans and other towns along rivers.
John Henry Bonham also known as Bonzo on drums. Usually considered 1 of 2 greatest drummers of all time with Neil Peart from Rush. Depends on your style.
Maybe their blues rock doesn't grab you just now, but it will eventually lol Try: Black Dog Heartbreaker The Song Remains the Same Babe,I'm gonna leave you (don't be put off by the bluesy beginning, it really rocks as does Bring it on Home) Misty Mountain Hop has a special place in my heart ❤ You Shook Me is blues but it has an incredible guitar solo in the middle and an organ solo and a harmonica solo as well, likewise Travelling Riverside Blues - brilliant guitar work that must appeal to you.
FWIW, at the time we started calling *anything* "heavy metal", this was one the things *we* were referring to. It was a little retrospective, of course; the album had been out for some time. But yeah, this was definitely inaugural metal. Edit: Early on, no one was nearly as pedantic about such things. *That* came much later. It's not a science. They were just words we were using.
The drumming in this is iconic, & has many bands & drummer’s jealous, because they can’t get that same sound especially the beginning. The band all lived together at an old mansion estate, so they could write & record music. Bonzo’s drum kit was setup in the main 3 story open entrance, with microphones hanging at different levels. The acoustics & microphones gave it that extra rich sound, Bonzo loved the sound he got out of his kit. Though he’s such a power player, & uses larger size drums then others. They didn’t play this live to many times, because they couldn’t recreate the awesome heavy sound again. Not every song will be your favorite, but I guarantee you’ll love the majority, their lives are really great too, especially from Madison Square Gardens (1973), Earls Court (1975) & Knebworth (1979) they were the best visual & audio.
Hi just watched you dazed and confused reaction if this blew you away their song since I've been loving you live at Mattson square garden in 1973 will blow you away compared to dazed and confused plus you get to put faces to names and see their greatness out of the 70's zeppelin....pink floyd...and the eagles were the best bands from the 70's.
nothing made my mom "happier" than when I played Communication Breakdown and Plant spits out those words -OOOH SUCK! What kind of music are u listening to -is what I heard all the time.
John Paul Jones, The Bassist, Used an Alembic 8 String Bass in this song. This song came out in 1976, 48 years ago. Don't scream during the song, because it cuts out the volume during the performance, and it doesn't sound good on our end. Enjoy your trip with the Zep! By the way, Black Sabbath invented Heavy Metal, As you call it...😉😁
Yes, Ozzy said that they listened to the first Zep album, and Iommi was inspired by Communication Breakdown and made Paraniod. Ozzy said it was too similar, can we do that? It will work, Iommi said. The early Zep albums were very influential. Even the later ones with Achilles Last Stand that had a style that Iron Maiden made a career of.
Hahahaba lets go maaan!! this is me when listening to this song too, and they have a lot of good songs like this one, and the live versions are even better man, they used to improvise on their lives, really the best band for me. The Doors are up there too, you should check them out, Jim Morrison was something else
