How long does it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days? What's it like pulling up really steep hills when the engine's cold?
Around freezing or a couple degrees colder it starts pretty much instantly if you've pressed the preglow button long enough as it doesn't have a glow timer anymore. Wether you've parked it for a night or a couple months doesn't makes a difference. After it's started it drives absolutely fine but I don't push a cold engine.
I've replaced the rusted out rear muffler for a resonator from another diesel car as that's what I already had at hand so now lower frequencies aren't silenced much. Other than that the exhaust (which is just some piping and another resonator) is stock except for a different tip but that won't change its sound very much.
@@Krypto_ no video, sorry, I've welded in that rear silencer back in 2019. Like I said the front silencer is stock with a Nissan stamping, after that I've welded on some suitable pieces of exhaust pipe, the front silencer of a VW T4 2.5TDI and then some more welded on pipe to route it to the rear left of the truck and some welded on exhaust hangers, nothing special. imgur.com/a/MuYBnYf
I don't have an exact match for a service manual but I've one for a '89 model year that covers about everything minus the diesel engine (got it from nicoclub ages ago but it got taken down since then - archive.org has a backup though) and a manual for the SD25 can be easily found on the internet, the one I have is meant for the SD25 in the Datsun 720 but who cares. My current setup is a 12V silicone heating mat wrapped around the fuel filter to prevent gelling problems, glowplugs are manual with a push button and I have installed a grid intake air heater from a yanmar diesel engine so it starts much better than in this old video.
I have a one with the same engine, not nearly as nice body shape but runs perfect. Great truck. I live on vancouver island and have never seen another nissan sd25 diesel driving around. How rare are they?
I don't know of any other one but asked our version of the DMV for a number of remaining ones some time ago, on 01.01.2018 there were exactly 50 ones left in Germany. Out of a total of 67 million, so yes, we've some pretty rare trucks :D
@@kevinvowles1654 Welp I've had that same issue as well, make sure to use a straigt edge to check your head and block. I've had the the head machined, replaced the prechambers and had em machined down to the correct protrusion as is was too warped to just slap back on with a new gasket. But that fixed that issue for good.
They sure like to rust badly. This one has needed lots of welding and now is protected by a couple litres of thin grease and oil sprayed into the frame and the underbody so it's not that bad of a problem any more.
@@DatsunBloke7357 door pillars is a new one to me, I've welded the frame, floor, body mounts, bed, wheel arches, radiator mount, cab corners and lots of mechanical parts but my door pillars look fine🤣
How are you liking your d21 with the sd25 engine? I'm looking at buying one, does the engine feel anemic or is it decent for what it is? Nice videos dude, keep 'em coming!
Let's put it this way, it has enough power to move the car but that's about it. In theory it should have a top speed of a bit over 120kph but I've never driven it that fast as EGTs would go through the roof if you'd try. It's a very simple engine but as a result you can't compare it to eg an old 1.9TDI. I thought about adding a turbo and tried fitting an injection pump from a TD27t as it's meant for working with a turbo and so can increase fueling with boost but it won't fit as it hits the block when you try to bolt it down.
I bought one about three years ago and at that point clutch sets were availible from a number of different shops here in Germany. I've no idea about other countries though.
