Well, I don't know about an overarching lesson either, but I think the original game and downpour both tried to tell their own. In the original survivor, you have one ending, but two ways to end - one being moving on from Rain World, ascending past it's cycle and leaving it, but the choice is yours whether you wish to end the game or continue playing. Continue living in the cycle, experiencing the joys and beauties the world has to offer. The cycle of life lasts forever and offers no end to that choice, so there is no ending to be found there - the game only ends when you travel to the void sea and leave the game's world behind. Such I suppose it offers some lesson about how to reflect on one's own life and attachments they could perhaps go without, things we might cling to even if we may come to find they did more harm than good. But... downpour changed that narrative I think. It was no longer just a story about moving on from the world, but instead embracing it, for all the sorrows and joys that life in the cycle would have. And we can see it on many fronts - survivor now has an 'ending' within the cycle, traveling back home (although at any point you can resume playing...), and the likes of other slugcats finding their place too, be it through the dauntless will to assert that place like artificer or simply accepting what you had for what it is, be it the companionship many others like gourmand and spearmaster have or something other. Perhaps even for saint, it could be that they have an undying love for the world of rain world, born to be the same gift to it that the iterators were, but born with the solution rather than to seek it, and with the will to always return so that they may always live in the cycle, becoming attuned and providing the gift of karmic purity and ascension from the cycle to anything it meets. It does begin at karma 2. There's an echo in saint's campaign that I think most directly embodies the message I see in downpour, that this moment in life is where we are meant to be...
YEAH, I’ve always wanted this! I remember whenever the first steam I saw you in and you didn’t even know what path of titans was lol. (Oh and how’s the kid? Sorry if it’s too personal and you don’t remember me)
He's doing great! Just starting to try to walk. He's also starting to get opinionated and difficult lol You should absolutely come hang out in the Discord and poke around the server if you get a chance!
I’ve been studying Buddhist philosophy for a while and playing this game is like learning it all intuitively through play. It’s transcendent, and your breakdown and analysis of the story is excellent. Love rewatching it!
You ever play Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup? Pretty great traditional rouge like u can play in ur browser. Ty for showing off this game it looks really dope and i didnt even know Pokemon mystery dungeon was a spin-off hahahahaha. I saw ur comment about having a kid and not having time to edit much, but I think a few ripple cuts in the video timeline could be a good idea to keep ur video a bit quicker paced and focused. Ur vid is kinda between a casual/long form review and gameplay and would be more to my tastes if it was more one way or the other. Anyway. Cheers, thanks for the vid
Maybe you learned this by now, but when you've figured out what an unidentified item is, but it still isn't technically identified, you can use the Name option that pops up when you select it so that you don't have to remember it. It pops up an ingame keyboard that lets you type out what the item is, and there's a further useful feature when you're at that screen (listed as Book) which lets you quickly select a name from a list of all items of that type you've seen before, this list also keeps track of if you've already identified something or gave something else the name during this run. This is especially important when you're in dungeons that have everything (or at least close to everything) unidentified. Also, as a funny little tip that's not a super big deal since it only applies to a handful of floors in a handful of dungeons, but if there aren't walls around and you have an ally, you can just throw a pot at them to break it.
I think you are indeed supposed to drop stuff on the floor of the warehouse. Haven't ever played a shiren game, but I'm sure I saw that in the SNES one.
I'm not sure what you mean. As far as I can recall I cover every ending but it's been a while since I checked the script. There are minor dialogue changes in certain conversations based on what you do and in what order, but they're very minimal and not worth covering.
Damn... imagine being one of the creatures, accompanied by your family, watching how a small being takes one of yours in the blink of an eye, not suffering, blood, life, whatever was inside that friend... went away, you don't know where... but you know it was for something related to that little being, "sharing" his gift without being asked.
Barony is a really great if you haven't tried it. It isn't strictly a traditional roguelike as it's first person and not turn based, but it adheres to the other common ideas of a trad roguelike. It has a lot of inspiration from Nethack too, which I think is really cool.
i may have a mental issue, because if the smalll theory i created in less than an hour about the unknown existence of humans in rainworld world ( i didnt see the entire video, so if i say something really wrong, ignore the theory or make changes in it) Theres 4 important ideas about this theory. First, the old ones. In the lore, it is not said what they truly are, which gives space to think that they are not humans. Second, the iterators and animals. The animals in rainworld are pretty similar to the animals we have in reality, and i think the reason behind it, is to make us understand that the world of rainworld may be the same as our world, because those animals can feel pain, happiness and even fear, but something important, is that our animals are not capable of further understanding of things, and the same goes for rainworld animals(which explains their similarities with our animals), and this got me to realize that iterators can feel things like animals do, but the can deeply understand what is around them, which can be seen in the explanation of the rain when they say that something is "painfull", not only that but they also look for the solution to it, something that animals can barely do because of their surviving naturality. And third, the technology, specialy the biological one. The iterators are technological but also biological creatures, which is said in the video, and if the iterators where biological creations, it means that they can create life, not only that, they can give them deep inteligence and even a mission for their lifes. And fourth, the curse. It is said that the mission of the iterators is to find a way to eliminate the possibility to become an echo, so that everyone can "ascend" which is basically death itself. knowing theres 4 things, lend me to one question ¿What the similarities to our world, and the capabilites of the iterators want to show?, and eventually i got to an answer. Humans didnt existed, but only at that point. The old ones are never seen in the game, so what if the iterators found the way to eliminate the possibility of becoming an echo and the old ones instantly used it to finally die, which is what they most wanted in their lifes. The iterators would be alone in the world now, but they have the capabilitie of further understanding lf things, ¿so what if after their mission was finally completed, they started to feel lonely and without purpose in their lifes? They had to find another mission, so their lifes wont be for nothing, and here comes the creation lf humans, because having the biological technology to create life, with enough work, they could create humans, who would not be alive forever and would eventually die, not only that, the could give their capability of understanding of things and even gives us the appereance of the old ones, or maybe the appereance of the statues in the deeps, then, they could give all of their hard work for us to find, giving us and endless mission so we can live forever without having to feel what they felt when they completed their mission, then, so we didnt die, they could make us wait until the planet was a place where we could survive and learn. Even the buildings the old ones where creating to live could be the inspiration for humans to create the same type of buildings. As i said in the start, this is a crazy theory that can be wrong because of my lack of understading of the lore, but i think is a good contribution to the community, i hope someone sees this, or even the creator of this amazing video, so my theory dosent die. If you read all the thoery, thank you very much. Also i may spelled some words in a wrong way because my main languaje in spanish, not inglish, so im very sorry for that. Without nothing more to say, have a good day, reader.
My personal headcanon is that the saint just wants the worm to rest too but the worm is like "nah we both still got shit to do" and sends the saint back so he can continue ascending others while the worm judges each one of them and both the saints and the worms work will only end when all the organisms are gone and been judged and then the saint finally goes to the worm letting it rest and the saint resting aswell
So, just wanted to let ya know why a random wander by decided to click off your video after a few minutes rather than watch it, besides the throat clearing (use a cough button), it was the rambling, felt like it wasn't going anywhere, lots of side tracks without ever laying out the main road, kind of confused... just feedback, not some kind of attack, take it or leave it.. have a good one..
It happens. My main thing is longform video essays with heavy editing but I recently had a kid so don't have the time to devote to that. Some of my regulars still want content, so I just try to talk about/cover stuff I like casually. No worries.
I hope you enjoy it. If you think this looks fun (and knowing how much you love Pokemon) you should absolutely give the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games a go!
