Wow this is so much easier than the dumbass thing I was doing. I was essentially running on trial/error with an empty casing and a bullet tip to find the right depth. Man I’m dumb as hell sometimes.
I use a 1/8" wooden barbeque skewer to push down the last primer(s) in the tube, on several of my presses, that use the feeder style pickup tube. No chance of damaging the primer or setting it off. Skewers are cheap and I find lots of uses for them around the shop.
commenting on a 6 yr old video, anyways majority of comments were regarding lack of instruction on crimping. As was already said there is an additional video that describes that. This format also follows the Speer reloading manual, number 13, step 8 bullet seating, and then step nine, crimping (optional) found on pages 77-80.
Rcbs has the luxury of breaking a few before getting er done right for the demo. 😉I cracked mine while removing it but it was already ruined , having left lil’ gun powder in the hopper for several months, the granules resting against the inside of hopper somehow became imbedded into the plastic - ruined. A strange chemical phenomenon that this would happen after 40 years with this unit Considering I’ve left other powders in it without issues . 🤷♂️ but I will say that for the last couple years, the powders have been sticky and needed wiping out so….my recommendation is to empty hopper when finished with the batch.
This is an excellent video. My dad reloaded for decades from about the time I was born until about 5 or 6 years ago when he was no longer capable. I'm running out of my current reloads that he made over 20 years ago, and am now taking over the reloading. I have all of his RCBS loading equipment, and while familiar with the overall process, I generally never saw it all done from start to finish, mainly for one of those rules you mention in the beginning about being distracted. I was usually not allowed in the room when certain steps were being done so he wasn't distracted. This is a great video that shows the basics from start to finish and has confirmed parts of the process I did know as well as some that I wasn't so familiar with. Thanks!
I bought a set of rcbs in 6.5 cm no matter what I did it would destroy the case and believe me i tried averything before i sent them back and bought a set of redding dies and i got my sanity back i have another rcbs die in 223 that will size the case it will chamber but no matter how i adjust it the case will not pass a go gage no problem with the redding 223 die i have another rcbs die in 22-250 that sets the neck tension so thight that if you try to use the rcbs bullet puller it deforme's the head and ruins the case i don't know why but my 22-250 loves the supper tight neck or i would have trashed the die i do have a set of rcbs comp dies that are very nice i love the side window for the small 22 cal's no more pinched fingers or bent neck .
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mark 2:17)
I highly recommend this video for anyone getting into reloading. You really can work up some very accurate loads keeping things very simple and getting in nobody's hurry.
Can we see a cast steel Model B? Everyone says RCBS only made 500 but ive never seen one in person and no video on RU-vid. I have a few A-series pre-rock chuckers like A2 and have even seen the Pre A or welded ones they used for the molds that they say only 50 were ever made!
I wonder who in the RCBS management decided to end production for the RCBS Pro Melt first gen and start making these ridiculous 2nd gen. They should be fired. Message for RCBS CEO: you will never ever make amore reliable, headache free, safe and long lasting pot like the first gen. Period, end of story. let me tell you about your new Pro Melt: your PID suck, the bottom spout suck and ending a casting session suck big time. Every first gen pots even the beat up ones 30 years old sell for more than a brand new second gen. Ever wonder why? This very morning a unicorn brand new first gen Pro Melt sold for 810$ plus taxes plus shipping on ebay. Do I need to give you more explanation? I don't think so. Again, RCBS management take notes and never stop the production for a product that sells to replace it with a junk.
What is supposed to be the advantage of lowering the die onto the case as opposed to raising the case into the die? To me, this appears to be just a gimmick. No thanks.
