wood combustion in air is incomplete and leaves tarry residue and soot in the smoke called creosote which adheres to the inner wall of the chimney. eventually the creosote builds up to such an extent that it catches on fire and due to the ....chimney effect... basically creates a blast furnace of roaring very high temperature fire in the chimney which as seen here eventually destroys the lining and insulation and often sets the house on fire.
You know how you tell people your dad/grandpa can do anything and that he's a man of the land and works with his hands? This is exactly what happens when your dad/grandpa does his half assed job
HI Julius - My name is Doug Vollmayer and I'm a producer for ABC News' Good Morning America. I'm working on a story about the importance of chimney fires..and what can happen if a chimney isn't properly maintained. Tell me...did you shoot this video and, if so, could we have permission to use it on all abc platforms and partners with credit to you?
