Curious what you have run for tires and your preferred brand?? My only complaint has been the OEM Bridgestones wearing quickly. Replaced with Goodyear Assurance but too loud. Suggestions would be appreciated.
I've been partial to Michelins on a car like this. they tend to be very quiet, well made tires. I've had good results from them. I also like Cooper tires. Similar results. That's what I have on it now.
Bought the luxury pkg version es300h last yr 2023 love the car super super smooth and a joy to drive long trips. Be prepared to throw away the OEM Bridgestone tires though and spend another 1600 for Goodyear Assurance or Michelin Premier. The Bridgestone tires are simply awful.
What are the common engine problems with this setup? Head gasket? Timing chain guides? Any reason to be afraid of buying one close to 200,000 miles as-is with a basic mechanic inspection? What happens when the hybrid battery goes? -- What can leave me stranded?
These cars don't have many issues overall. That said, any car with 200K miles could have a problem. You need to have it gone over by a trusted mechanic. Even then, it is a roll of the dice to some degree. I'm assuming there is no service history with this car? Did you look at a Carfax report to see if there is service history there?
apparently the water pump can go out after many years and about 150k miles but at this point and age it's normal that some parts like a head gasket or the battery needs to be replaced. the good thing about toyota/lexus hybrids is that you can still drive with the engine after the battery goes but with horrible gas mileage
@@caraddict829 Fortunately, I'm looking at a 1-owner car, services exclusively at Lexus, but 120K miles. Hybrid battery tested okay in the MyLexus records 6 months ago on its last trip in.
@@alecwhatshisname5170 doesn’t the Elise have the 2ZZ? Or 2ZR-FE? Pretty sure the Elise has an inline-4 not a v6. I’m looking to buy an SW20 with the 3S-GTE on the cheap and do an engine swap.
I've driven many ES 350s. They definitely feel more powerful. They have 68 more HP, so it is very noticeable. Obviously, the Hybrid's benefit is not in power but in fuel mileage.
@@caraddict829 One more question if you don't mind. Is the ES300h noiser or quieter than the ES350? I have a 2018 ES350 and a quiet and smooth ride is a major plus for me. I'm thinking of getting a 2024 or 2025 ES.
@@sktoh4469 In my opinion the ES350 is quieter. It doesn't have the hybrid system, which does make some noise, and the 4 cylinder in the ES300h is a little buzzy. It also has to work a lot harder, so you have to push it more than you would the V6. The new V6 makes even more power than it did in 2015, so it wouldn't need to work that hard to move the car.
@@sktoh4469 My pleasure! I think some of them just don't know very much about their subject matter. I know these cars well. I'm a car guy. This is what I love.
I have a 2021 which gets low 40s in the winter and low 50s in the summer. So far so good. I hope to have a similar long-term owner experience like you.
Hi dear I have an es 300 h 2020 lexus dealer telling me that to keep the warranty you need to service with us, which is far too expensive your battery keeps the warranty up to 15 years. Do I have to take this into consideration? So how often do you clean hybrid filters. Thanks 👍
The warranty on the hybrid system is 10 yrs or 150K, whichever comes first. You should call Lexus directly (not the dealer) about whether servicing the car at a non-lexus dealer can void the warranty. That is possible, but they should be the ones to have the final word on that. As far as hybrid filters, I'm not sure what you're referring to . They don't have them. My car has no service recommendations for the hybrid system. If a Lexus dealer is telling you you need to service that you should ask Lexus about that as well. The books for mine have no such recommendation, and in 120K of my driving on the car my dealer has never recommended anything for the hybrid system. You shouldn't have to do anything there.
Wow good to see your Lexus dealership seems honest. Mine charges 200$ for an oil change for my Lexus es300h, No loaners all the time unless it’s a major repair. Car wash down due to construction… lol
It could be a daily driver but I wouldn't recommend it from a servicing standpoint. It would need more servicing than you would be used to from a normal daily driver. With the age of this gen SL things will go bad from increased use that will be costly, potentially. The fuel mileage wouldn't be any worse than most SUVs these days but the other repairs that may come up that will cost you.
No. That is not needed normally, and it's not even part of any Lexus service on these cars because it shouldn't be an issue. If you have a mechanic telling you this needs to be done go find another mechanic. It's a scam.
I am currently looking at a 2015 es300h with 133k miles on it. Loved the car and its drive. Since it is the first time I’ll be going for a hybrid, I’m not too sure about the battery. The dealer said that battery usually don’t give any issue as long as you drive the car regularly.
My Lexus dealer told me the same thing when I asked because my car was approaching 150K at the time. There are multiple sensors that would light up if there was any issue with the battery pack or hybrid system.
I’ve had two Uber drivers each with older Prius with over 300,000 miles on the original batteries. With these Toyota hybrid systems I wouldn’t be too worried about the battery honestly. They’re incredibly reliable.
I live in yokohama 137k I experienced little drop in mpg too had the injectors mass air flow sensor an oxygen sensor cleaned so it's gained back more response 42mpg..
My mileage always drops in the winter because they put an additive in our gas where I live so it won't gel in the cold. It causes fuel mileage to decrease.
I have a 2013 Lexus a hybrid model and I keep getting this leaking noise around my tires. I just can’t figure out what it is. I’m taking it to the shop and they can’t even tell me anything so I was thinking if I can send you serve a clip or a little audio file but this sounds like see if you know what I’m talking about it’s really every time I stop and go, it does a clicking noise
Hi, thinking of buying one to replace my 19-year-old Renault Megane. Although they are being stolen at quite a rate in the UK. What are your other two cars that are less reliable? Are they also Lexuses?

Any used car can be a risk if it wasn’t maintained or if abused, but that should be a safe bet if it was cared for. Are you able to get any history/copies of service records?
@@caraddict829 Yes - I used My Lexus portal to access the service history. There aren't any records of oil change, but perhaps they were doing it elsewhere, and only came to a dealership when they had a problem. In 2020, at 67k miles, they had the following record - does it mean that the actual battery was replaced? not sure what "hybrid pack" means. "OPEN CIRCUIT IN HYBRID BATTERY CAUSING DISCHARGE TO BATTERY PACK CASE 201560198 CODE POA80 REPLACE BATTERY HYBRID PACK ~|~REPLACED BYBRID PACK RESET CODES AND TEST DROVE TO CONFIRM OPERATING AS DESGINED CLOSED TAS CASE" I guess what concerns me most about the service history is that the last record was made in Sep '21 - a 70k mile service @74k miles on the odometer. After that, nothing, although the car has been driven another 10k miles since. I just hope they didn't completely stop changing oil. :)
34 or 35 MPG for that sizes vehicle is very good IMHO. I just bought a 2015 GS 350 with 186k miles and the engine, transmission and interior are mint. The outside is not too bad either. Lexus is an amazing vehicle. Thanks for the update.
You are correct. If you drive more aggressively you won't achieve the advertised mpg. Although, it is an estimate, it is not a limit on mpg. You can definitely achieve greater mpg than advertised, which is relevant to all Toyota and Lexus hybrids, but it is directly linked to how you drive it.
You could add a apple car play module to the infotainment system which enables apple car play such as google maps etc. Also what caused the battery degradation? Do you usually idle in the car? Is the AC on while idling if idling? Also what state was the car driven? Thanks in advance.
It’s nothing bro ,my friend works for Uber 2013 year with 300 000 miles and customers still asking what car is that it’s so smooth and nice car 😁 especially these models bulletproof .made in Japan 🇯🇵🫡
Awesome car! Has many features mine doesn't have, but you are missing 3-zone climate control. It will say 3 ZONE where yours says DUAL, and the controls for the rear are in middle armrest of the back seat when folded down where yours has cup holders.
Hi there!! I have the same car. Two things. Does the car have a running sound after it is off for a few minutes. Kinda of a rubbing sound. And I notice that it shook once after I turned it off. I have 64000 miles on it. Might need a tune up. Let me know your thoughts.
I do get a sound periodically from the hybrid system, while the engine is off, so that might be what you're hearing. I would check with your Lexus dealer just to be sure, though. The plugs should not need to be replaced until 120,000 miles. It should not need a tune up at that mileage. If it keeps doing it consistently you should have Lexus look at it. Could even be a motor mount, though that is doubtful.
Bought a 2015 ES300h with 104k on it from a Lexus dealer. I use this vehicle for Uber and now have 248k on it. Still running smooth with only regular maint. (brakes, tires, oil changes etc.) Best car I have ever owned.
My transmission is a sealed unit with no dipstick. There is NO regualr interval for trans. fluid changes on my car in the Lexus maintenance manual. I checked with my Lexus dealer and they confirmed there is no need to change the fluid unless there is a bad leak. There is a LOT of bad information out there on the web about this. I've even seen Lexus dealers online mentioning transmission fluid changes. Don't trust everything you see on this. Ask a local Lexus dealer to confirm, but if i's a 2015 ES300h you don't need to change it.@@azizulhuq2983
