never saw them live but lived in Athens Georgia in the mid 90s for a while and saw them all the time at Georgia Bar, jittery joes coffee shop and The Globe which is a bar in Athens. Good times.
His first 2 albums were too retro for the 80's, a decade of unparalleled innovation. Nobody wanted to look back at the time. When the third came out in 1993, it was the right time, and he was prepeared with a smash hit "Are you gonna go my way". After that, he becane a rock icon. He also 'modernized' his style in the coming albums, all really good. His previous work finally was appreciated by everybody. And the critics? Cluieless, pretentious, mean.... and wrong. Totally irrelevant, as they always are with a true original artist.
Kittie is a good band but male dominated spaces exist for a reason. Since Kittie there hasn't been an all girl band that is anywhere near as good as them but when compared to other bands like Slipknot, Sevendust, Rob Zombie, White Zombie, etc... they're nowhere near as good. Its like the NBA vs. the WNBA.The WNBA sucks which is why they get very little ratings.
My first concert: Megadeth/Aerosmith in Biloxi, MS on 7/15/93. AFAIK their last show on the tour. I was 10. From what I remember, whole place reeked of pot, Megadeth was great but stage show was lacking while Aerosmith was at the peak of their game.

Kravitz does what he likes to do and lots of people like it when it does it. I do think that he lives and performs a persona which is constructed with bits a pieces of someone else but every now and then it resonates and is quite marketable.
Gotta admit I could never much get into his stuff. Let Love Rule was a pretty great single but if I have to hear "Fly Away" one more time I'm gonna puncture my own eardrums. "Are You Gonna Go My Way" was also played to death but it's not as prevalent now. He seems like a super cool dude though. Oh and he made one of the prettiest people to ever exist. Zoe is welcome to my soul if she'd like it
Even though I've always found myself on the more "shred" side of guitar playing, I always loved Jim's style of playing...he was original in a time when it was really needed...just a good, solid player...too bad they couldn't get along...but that's rock'n'roll....
7 Chinese brothers is my fave. I saw them live, they pretty much sucked because it was only acoustic. Only the early stuff for me. Not the corn pop losing religion, meh. My college years 79-83 is memorable becuase of music. Everything now sucks.
I was in the music industry from the mid '90s until 2013 and until at least about 2007 or so, major record labels were still doing things like this to radio stations, music video shows, etc. This said, the way that they were doing it was they would withhold singles from big, established acts without sort of handshake type agreements that they would play certain other smaller artists from the roster. To twist the knife, occasionally they would threaten to give leaks, etc, to competing radio stations within the market to try and move things along faster. Basically, you either play a bunch of crappy bands that were trying to develop or we won't give you music and/or access to the artists that keep your station alive. Good times!
American Woman was one of the worst, most soulless covers ever made. Nothing redeeming about it. He showed great promise with _Are you gonna go my way_ but fizzled out as quick. It’s a pitty cause he certainly had the look of a rockstar but his songs were so …. bland.
Candlebox was a much better band than nirvana. I hate that everyone compares great grunge and indie from the 90s to nirvana-probably the most mediocre band of them all.
IMO Mad Season is still the greatest supergroup that ever existed. I know that doesn't seem like a lot since most supergroups suck lol but it's such a great album, just as good as any of the AIC albums in my humble opinion.
Was sitting in a hammock listening to the local alternative radio station when I first heard this. I fell out of the hammock and ran inside to record it on cassette.
Your subtitles man, I'm deaf and when it says "Here's Lane's Bandmates Discussing his Death" in subtitles - It would be nice to know what they're saying without leaning in and trying to read lips lol...great video though.
