With different designers come different sizes .... so I run my charm square through my 4.5 inch Accuquilt from my 8 inch cube. I just did this for one of my quilt students because the squares need to be starched.
Hi JC😊👋🏽 That’s an excellent idea! I’ll use this tip in the future. It will save me time and improve my piecing😊. Thanks for contributing to the conversation 😊
I can remember (so long ago) when I thought I didn't really need a Go! cutter because I could rotary cut pretty well. I thought it was only worth it for applique and at the time I didn't do enough of that to push me to buy. They got me though when they started doing the BOB dies! The first die I purchased is a now discontinued (pieced) Basket block die. I had made the same block with regular rotary cutting so knew I had to have that one and still use it today. The second one I got was the Log Cabin die which I love, love, love! Both for making the blocks and when I need 1-1/2" strips of specific sizes (made a great pieced border for a pandemic mystery project with it). The idea of being able to cut all the fabrics and pieces for complex blocks like Storm At Sea, Cross Roads, the Glorified Nine Patch, Carpenter's Wheel (yep have 'em all, LOL!) in one pass sucked me right in! Once I was sliding down the slope, even some basic dies became "necessary": I did find that I liked using the Value die that came with my machine for cutting two inch finished HSTs and squares in bulk. I make a lot of scrap quilts so it wasn't hard to convince myself that I needed the 10" square boards that cut both the one and two inch finished HSTs and the one inch finished squares in even greater bulk (like sixteen at a time vs six on the Value die). I have one Cube -- I also have the nine inch and just the Angles -- because a lot of the BOBs I have are that size which means I can easily make companion blocks for them. Also since it includes a five inch square die, I can die cut (scrappy) charm squares with ease. And of course due to Accuquilt's periodic great sales I now have an applique die stash as well! Ironically, years ago I purchased a custom die to make the angled roof, gable and door rectangle to add to strips from my Log Cabin die to make a 12 inch pieced Schoolhouse block because back then they only had that as an applique block. Of course now they have the pieced nine inch schoolhouse (yep, have it) and of course that also goes with my Cube. Surprisingly though, I don't own any strip dies: I can't justify buying (and storing) those since I very much like using a Stripology ruler for strips and strip subcuts. I do however long for the day when I can have a dedicated space to put a Go! Big. One day!
Hi Vivian🥰! Thank you so much for contributing to the conversation. Oh my stars, your journey into the AccuQuilt world sounds so relatable 😊. It is indeed a slippery slope, but well worth sliding down😂. I truly appreciate you being here and watching the video! I’ll see you in the next video 👋🏽🥰
I missed your live so catching up now. I got back to Texas from vacation in Crested Butte, CO! Beautiful weather! So much cooler than Texas! Great video thanks!
Hello my quilty friend 🥰! I’m so excited you had a chance to enjoy a wonderful vacation in CO! I’m in Southern California and I’m SO ready for cooler weather 😂. Thank you for contributing to the conversation, I appreciate your continued support🙏🏽. I’ll see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
Oh no! StaFlo is my favorite! I bought a couple of jugs a while back. I prewash all my fabrics. I don't need shrinkage or color bleeding in my finished project. Thank you for another block from the 6 inch cube! ❤❤❤
Hey Suzanna😊! I know it’s a bummer that StaFlo is discontinued 😞. Thanks for contributing to the conversation my quilty friend 🥰. I appreciate your support 👋🏽
Hey Tammie, great video. Please address your sound, its so harsh and echoey hard to listen too, and could you please do a demo on the starched blue and white block you showed us, love that. Keep up the great work. :))
Hi Natalie😊! Thank you so much for letting me know about the audio quality! I realized once it was over that my mic wasn’t picking up😞. To see the tutorial on the block, search my channel for the “AccuQuilt block translation: Broken wheel” video. It’s in the “AccuQuilt Quilt Block Tutorials” playlist on my channel. I’ll figure out how to link it here🤔. Give me an hour or so😉
This is one of my favorite blocks for scraps but instead of those white triangles I use rectangles, then square up the block with a regular ruler. I realize you were trying just to use the Accuquilt dies only.
Hey Suzanne my quilty friend 😊! Yes this block is wonderful for busting up your scraps. You’re right.. because this block is made of 2 simple shapes, it’s easy to rotary cut 😊. Thank you so much for contributing to the conversation & supporting the channel👍🏽. I’ll see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
Hi Tenita😊! Thanks for contributing to the conversation. I hear ya on the price. What I find is most cost effective and lets you get the biggest bang for your buck is the GoMe + 1 Go Qube set. You can make 72 different blocks with the GoQube and all of the sizes except the 10” & 12” will work with the GoMe😊. So if you’re ever in the position to make the investment, this will help you maximize that investment 😊👍🏽
@@TalohaStudios this is actually a really good idea and I’m leaning toward that because I tend to stick to pretty basic quilt blocks and shapes. And i usually make 6 or 8 inch blocks. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me.
My pleasure 🙏🏽! Here’s another tip to help you decide between the 6 & 8” Qube😉. Look through the 6 & 8” BOB (block on board) dies. If there are more of one size that you like, get that size Qube set. That way, in the future as you have more money to invest, you can build on your existing Qube set instead of buying dies you won’t use often. Also, sign up for their email list that way you get notified of all the sales! I hope this helps 🥰
Yes it does. I recommend waiting until Black Friday week, since it’s coming up soon. They have daily specials that week particularly on Friday. The best thing is to sign up for their emails so you don’t miss the notification of the sales 🥰
Hi 👋🏽 The total width of the sashing is approximately 1.75”. There a seam down the middle, so just under 1”. On either side there is approximately 0.75” in which you insert your quilt sandwich. Then you sew your 1/8” or 1/4” to secure your sandwich to the sashing. You would do that on both sides to connect your quilt sandwich squares together. I hope this makes sense 😉
I tried the go baby it was to small moved up to the go loving it no more cutting wrong ni matter how much I tried I never could get it right hope with the go it will get it right
Hi Helen😊! I’m so excited you found the right cutter for you. The AccuQuilt cutting system is a game changer for some of us😊. Thank you so much for contributing to the conversation 😊👏🏽
Tammi .. I love how you demonstrated various options! I would choose to use the chisel & flying geese and end up with a larger block. I do not use my Accuquilt much but it is my challenge for 2025. I am just beginning to understand how to use an 8 inch cube to make a 10 in block design. Keep up the good work ... I am enjoying your thought process!
Hi JC my quilty friend 😊! Thank you so much for contributing to the conversation 👏🏽. The chisel shape worked for 2 out of the 4 units. I lost patience trying to figure out how to make the remaining 2 units work & resorted to HST’s😂. I value your support of the channel & I will keep on making these videos so we can experiment & learn together 🥰. I’ll see you in the next video😊👋🏽
Hey Diane my quilty friend 🥰! Thank you. I’m trying to challenge myself and boy was this one a challenge 😂. I appreciate you contributing to the conversation and will see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
Congratulations on figuring out this beautiful block( not sure I could have). If you have seen the new Magnolia die from Accquilt, please check out Block 5136.
Hey my quilty friend 🥰! It took some thinking, but I figured it out 😂 Wonderful tip, I’ll check it out. Thanks for contributing to the conversation. I’ll see you in the next video 🥰👋🏽
Hey Suzanna my quilt friend 🥰. Thank you for contributing to the conversation. The point pieces are the wrong size for this block. I cut them with the 6” setting triangles but they don’t work for this particular block🤔. I appreciate you being here and supporting the channel 😊. I’ll see you in the next video😊👋🏽
Hey Marina my quilty friend 🥰. From what I hear Lara Star is the top of the line iron. I’ve heard a lot good feedback about the Panasonic iron as well. Thank you for contributing to the conversation 🥰
Thanks for your work in providing care. I admire all the ND's and impact made across the US. In geriatrics, i encourage creative outlets to help with variety of emotional challenges. So many nurses are very talented artisans.
Thank you Pat🥰. I’m a hospice nurse practitioner & board certified in geriatrics. I love my gift, but it does take its toll on me. That’s why I started this channel, so that I can find healing in creating 🙏🏽. I appreciate you acknowledging me & being a part of this journey with me🙏🏽. I’ll see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
Hi Ivy😊👋🏽! Thank you so much for contributing to the conversation & joining me during today’s live😉. I appreciate you being here, I’ll see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
I don't generally prewash .... if I have a concern, I take a small 3 x 3 piece of fabric and place it in a cup with a white interior then fill it with water. I put it in the microwave for a minute. You will know immediately how much it bleeds and choose what to do from that point. I always use 2 or more color catchers when I wash my quilts!
Hi JC 😊! Thanks for contributing to the conversation. Testing a 3x3 piece of fabric for bleeding is an amazing idea! Since making this video, I’ve purchased color catchers as well. I appreciate you being here and will see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
I am so glad that I found your channel! I have plenty of Accuquilt and rarely us them. You have given me inspiration to put them to good use! I love both your blocks and it is certainly fun to play with color .... here in Florida, I would use black, white and turquoise!
Hi JC😊! I’m so excited you found me as well! It means a lot to me when I can bring AccuQuilt enthusiasts together. I appreciate you being here and will see you in the next video 😊👋🏽
Hey Diane my quilty friend 🥰! Looks like we all are on the same page with the red orange being the fan favorite😊. I have some cool ideas for the channel coming up and felt it would be best to change the name. It’ll still be me and my antics 😂😘
Hey Marge my quilty friend 🥰! The red orange is my favorite as well. You noticed the channel name change 😂. I have some big things in store for us that require a name change. Stay tuned to see what’s next 🥰😘
Hey Tammy🥰! I’m really having fun with the “mock on point” settings😊. After sitting with it a few days, red orange one is my favorite as well. I appreciate you my quilty friend 🥰😘
Yaay, I was hoping somebody would actually show the ratio of starch to water that they used. Have you ever tried storing the spray bottles in the refrigerator? My understanding is it that prolong their life. Just an aside, if a fabric is going to bleed, Best Press will also make it bleed in a hurry. Great video!
Hi Matty😊. Thanks for commenting! I’ve never even thought about storing the bottles in the refrigerator 😂, so that would be no😂. I try my best to mix only enough for 1 starching session. Then whatever is left over, I save and use as a spot starch spray after pressing my blocks and they don’t lay flat enough😊
I have both and there is a purpose for both and my go big was not that expensive when I got it 8 years ago. I paid almost twice for my snc model from the brother dealer
Hi Tanya😊 Thanks for commenting! I agree with you. Both machines allow us to express our creativity differently and if we are fortunate to own both we can sure create some quilting magic😊
You go girl! I would definitely give this a go if I had a serger! Though binding is not my least favorite task, (sandwiching the quilt IS), it is a time consuming task that has to be done after we’ve had all the fun of piecing those blocks. Thanks for sharing!
