Hi Andy, I decided that sound was going to be important for this sort of thing, so dug out my TASCAM and put it in my rucksack to record in decent quality and more or less completely out of the wind. It was a quick and easy solution, only downside was having to synch the separate audio with the video, but I got good at doing that back in the olden days. I shall be doing more of these, in addition to my usual stuff, whether people like them or not. But based on the comments, those with discerning taste, like this sort of thing and these videos will be nice to watch when the weather is too crap for riding 🙂 Cheers CC 👍🏻 G&R

Thank you James. This was the first time I tried to mount a rear facing camera on the Meteor and I must admit that I was very happy with the result. You can see that after adding some preload, the damper and spring on the Meteor are actually moving up and down a bit, at last ! 😂 I will do a few more of these as I encounter nice stretches of road because doing videos where I have to talk is hard work for me. Because I live alone, I find talking to be genuinely hard work. Not a problem that you and many others have but I usually don't have much to say because all I usually do is work and sleep 🤷‍♂ So for those weeks when I don't have much to tell everyone, it will be good to have a few Virtual Ride videos lying around. And of course, even a Virtual Ride will have a REAL SOSSIDGE at the end. I can't make a video without one these days. I'd get too many complaints ! Thanks James. Glad you enjoyed it. It was nice for me to be able to just focus on enjoying the ride for once and not having to worry about keeping the narration going or remembering what I wanted to say and in which order. 🙂 Much love to you and Mrs A. Hi Nigel, thanks for that, glad you enjoyed it ! I hope to do a few more of these on the nicer sections of some of my longer rides. Not every video needs to be 30 minutes long but unfortunately most of the nicer roads I ride are 30 minutes and longer. I think in future I might record some of these longer rides in sections and then I'll soon have a few virtual ride videos in the bank for the weeks when I am struggling to make a new video 👍🏻 That's the plan anyway. As usual, life could still get in the way ! Still crazy busy here and of course, now we are into the heart of summer and the temps are too hot for riding, unless you get out really early in the morning, which unfortunately is not my forte 😂 I hope all is well with your good self and that you are able to get some good rides in 🤞 Thanks again Nigel, always nice to hear from you and always helpful to get viewer feedback 🙂👍🏻 Garry & Ruby

Hi Dave, yes, they do do tours but as far as I know only for groups. So if I had 10 friends who wanted to come with me, we could probably do it. But you have to book as a group and since ( apart from Ruby ) I have no friends, it's going to be tricky for me to do 😂 But yes, it would be great to see what they can see and also to film it. I will bear it in mind and see what I can do. But having checked out their website, it does appear as though you need a sizeable group before they will let you book a tour. @@BlakesPipes Fortunately, although not cheap, Apple makes changing computers pretty easy. I can restore my previous system from the cloud if want but generally I prefer to start from scratch, just to declutter. A Mac comes with 90% of the software I use and the few programs I'm missing are quickly downloaded and installed. The new Macs with Apple processors ( as opposed to Intel ) are a factor of several faster in most areas. They also use less energy, generate less heat and therefore it's extremely rare that you'll ever hear the fans fire up. Fortunately, since I am an IT professional, I can put the costs of new IT tech through the company and limit the amount of tax I have to pay, which is definitely a great idea, since they are shafting me from all sides at the moment. Yes. The Tripper app is now greatly improved and works well but it forces you to plan your route in the app on your phone. I prefer to plan my route on my desktop computer and send it to my phone. Google Maps gives me that option. RE Tripper does not. Hence, although Tripper now works really well, I never use it. I now have it as a clock on both my Meteor and my Himalayan 😂 It's not just an RE problem though. So many manufacturers have their own navigation systems which force you to plan the route in their own proprietary app and planning a complicated route on your phone is near impossible, so lots of people end up using Google Maps on their phone and paying for a feature they will never use. Cheers, ER.

Hi there and thanks for leaving a comment to let me know. I'm glad this video helped you. Yes, before doing any major surgery on modern cars and bikes demonstrating "gremlins" I would always look at the biggest connector nearest to the affected area ! These microelectronics are extremely sensitive to changes in current, so a bit of dirt or some moisture turned into mild corrosion can create all sorts of weird symptoms. Taking apart, cleaning and drying the connector and firmly putting it back together again quite often helps, either temporarily or as in my case here, permanently ( never needed to do it again ! ). I'd certainly always do that before giving up and letting the dealer replace all sorts of parts unnecessarily, only for the problem to come back again later because they never bothered to check and clean the connector. In general RE put the connector for the dash in the headlight, so it's always a good place to start looking for trouble and is generally very easily accessible. Thanks again and take care, ER.

Regarding the unwanted vibrations in high speed, I found the following answer: "4.5 Engine Produces Excess Vibrations The most bothersome disadvantage of cruisers and their two-cylinder engines is that they produce excess vibrations. Several features have been implemented to reduce engines’ vibrations, including rubber-mounted engines, counterbalancers, and modified engine designs. Counterbalancers help reduces engine vibrations to an extent but not entirely." So, that is the answer. Cruisers are not built for speed, but for comfort in long distances and in slower speed and for heavy luggage. If you want speed and long distance and luggage, the obvious option is a touring bike. Myself I prefer the Royal Enfield Interceptor. As a roadster, I have a little bit of everything with that bike. Good for commuting, good for speed, good through traffic, good for luggage and good for long distance. That said, RE Super Meteor is a damn good looking bike. Writing this I don't know if you bought it or not. Did you? Take care and happy riding. Regards.

@economicalrides 4 дня назад
Hi buddy and thanks for your comment. I have owned other parallel twins in the past and have noticed their vibrations at higher speeds but they never became unpleasant. With this particular bike ( no idea if they are all like it though ! ) my hands and feet very quickly went tingly once I hit anything above 60 mph / 100 kph. I suspect that in my case it depends upon the frequency of the vibrations and this bike seemed to have a lot of higher frequency vibration which I was very sensitive too. I have the same issue with the Himalayan 450. Once I exceed 55 mph / 90 kph my hands and feet very quickly start to tingle. Not something I experience with the Himalayan 411 ( at any speed ) and certainly not with the J Series 350 powered Royal Enfields, which are incredibly smooth for being singles ! I don't do a lot of long distance fast road riding, so the vibes from this bike probably wouldn't have bothered me in 99% of my riding. But if I am going to get a bigger bike, I am getting it to have the OPTION of doing a longer trip on a bike in more comfort and the Super Meteor wasn't particularly comfortable for me at highway speeds. I did indeed do a follow up to this video with my final decision and, no, I didn't buy one because of the vibes and because it didn't do anything my other bikes cannot do. I hope you enjoyed this long answer and thanks for watching 😂 ER.

Hi Plough, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Himmy 411. As you say, right now, with people upgrading and dealers having NOS to shift, there are some real 411 bargains to be had. You can't go wrong with the 411. If you fit the performance cam and go up one tooth on the front sprocket, the 411 will even do the touring thing more than adequately. It's definitely a mod that I am thinking of for once mine is out of warranty ! But even in standard trim, if you are happy doing 100 kph / 60 mph on the motorway, the Himmy 411 will do that all day. It's just a fantastic all-rounder and I need to do a follow up review after 12 months with mine because, honestly, it has surpassed my expectations by a good margin ! Yes, the throttle body mod for the Meteor is interesting, although a bit of a major faff for 10 mph more 😂 For me it isn't worthwhile but it's good to know that, for those who are desperate for a bit more high speed headroom, there is at least some sort of solution. It would be a lot easier if RE would just offer an ECU flash for non-asian markets which simply disabled the software limiter though ! As for me. Well, the sodding Guerilla is tempting me, even though, as you all know, I do have my doubts about that engine !!! Cheers bud and thanks for watching and commenting, Garry

Best helmet ever, so far ! Annoying to think that it cost a third of what my Schuberth C4 PRO cost when new. That helmet was WAY worse. Last night I did discover one slight downside. Whilst fitting my intercom I did notice that there is no tidy way of getting the wires from the unit fed into the helmet. There is nowhere to slot them through, so you just have to feed the wires up under the helmet and into the opening. And you can't use the clamp mount either because there is nowhere to get it between the inner and outer shell ( same problem as with the wires, basically ). So I am having to use the sticky mount, which has been prone to falling off in the past. Might have to Sugru it on there if it keeps falling off. But that wouldn't be the end of the world. It's a quiet and comfortable helmet. Really enjoying it and will certainly buy the same helmet again, next time I need a new one ! Cheers Pinkie, Garry

@@economicalrides I had a Schuberth a few years ago. It was expensive, the quality was good, but I couldn’t wear it because it gave me a Klingon ridge in the middle of my bald head. 😂 Otherwise a great lid. I have given up on comm systems. They seem to ruin otherwise great helmets in my experience. My Arai XD 4’s liner is messed up now . I also found that it altered the fit of the helmet on me. Plus, I have issues with ummmm noises. I can’t tolerate the sounds of people chewing or smacking their lips. So, the last thing I’d want is an intercom piping someone chewing gum directly in my ears. 😂 I know it’s a weird thing but apparently it is a phobia of sorts. Surprisingly I don’t mind cats or dogs eating, though growing up on a farm I was never a fan of hogs eating. TMI, I know. 😂 Besides all of that I have pretty bad ringing in my left ear so I probably shouldn’t make that any worse. But, it is interesting that in the age of everyone wanting comms in their helmet that Scorpion didn’t route some channels for wires. Cheers Garry & Ruby!
@economicalrides
@economicalrides 7 дней назад
@@pinkiewerewolf Yeah, I think the C4 was the first Schuberth to have iffy quality. The C3s are still universally highly regarded. I did enjoy the fact that the comms were integrated on the C4 Pro but it didn't ever fit my egg shaped head, was noisy and the build quality was not good at all. Within two weeks I had to send it away to get the chin vent replaced because the latch broke and it would no longer close. My intercom is an intercom in name only. I have no idea how to connect it to anybody else and neither would I want to. It's basically just a bluetooth headset for me. I use it to listen to music on long boring rides or to answer the phone, should a call come in. I quite agree. I don't want to listen to others yacking whilst riding ! Yes, you do have to be wary of ruining the seal of your helmet when fitting, very easy to mess something up, particularly with the clamp style fitting brackets. The Scorpion has little headphone cutouts in the internal polystyrene which is great. Velcro the speakers in there and they are more or less flush and there is padding in front of them. I just couldn't find a way to get the wires from the outside to the inside, so just ended up running them under the the helmet and once they are inside, you can easily run them beneath the liner. Just difficult to find a way for the wires to pass from the outside to the inside without messing up the seal of the helmet around your neck. Otherwise the helmet seemed to be nicely set up for an intercom. Your phobia of mouth noises is familiar to me. I have seen a programme about it. Seems to be not uncommon and has apparently been the cause of several divorces ! 😂 So, it's 🥃 o'clock ! Goodnight Pinkie ! Garry & Ruby

Hi Pete, two comments are always better than one, sure the algorithm will love me for it 😇 Well to be honest, that's the beauty of buying a second hand bike, particularly with the intention of probably only having it for a year. Unlike any new bike I buy, a second hand bike doesn't really need to cover a genuine need. It can be "just for fun". I don't have to justify the second hand bike because I bought it with spare cash and I just want to own it for a while before swapping it for something else and not losing too much money in the process. Hi Pinkie ! I was wondering where you'd disappeared to ! Presumably RU-vid got fed up with paying me millions every month and decided to do something about it 😂 I have heard of it happening too, to other channels, hence why I don't ever use notifications myself. I just constantly scroll through my subscriptions list, looking for the blue dots ! Anyway, glad you found your way back. I've basically kept going, doing one video every week as usual, feeding Ruby a sossidge at the end of every video, so you have some catching up to do, if you'd like. Fortunately only light tooth marks spotted on various plastics, no serious damage done to either bike. Very lucky. In the end we caught around 10 rats. I used Mars bar ( a recommendation from a channel viewer and very effective ) and my neighbour used cheese ( I had limited success with English cheddar. Spanish rats clearly prefer Spanish cheeses ! ). I hope they are gone for good now because it was a worry that they might chew through something important. Fortunately my neighbour had enough food for them stored in his garage, probably the only reason why they didn't start eating through my tubes and cables - they were never hungry !!!! As a self employed person with very needy customers I just can't have more than the odd day off without them noticing. Bloody annoying that is. I am hoping to do a weekend trip away on the bike later this year but then I say that every year and I never find the time to do it. But for a brief moment there I did see a lifetime store ban flash before my eyes 😝 I am indeed delighted to no longer have rodents residing in my garage and I look forward to having the time to get the bikes down and give them one final proper clean before the autumn. You made me laugh with the rats getting dirty feet off of your GS !!!! It's funny because it's probably true ! Oh the original Africa Twin. I love that bike. It's a bike that's loved and fondly remembered by many. You'd probably like it more but the GS has probably spoiled you Ken. After the GS, of course the Africa Twin is going to feel tall and top heavy. Gorgeous 90s styling though. Love them but almost certainly too tall for me to get on with ! A supermoto intrigues me, because I've never had one. But again, being based on motocross bikes, they tend to have quite high seats. I might struggle to find one that suits a 30" inside leg (?). If there is one thing I hate, it's being on a bike that is too tall for me. I am 500% more likely to drop the bike, whenever that's the case ! I haven't started making my wish list yet, but I am pretty sure that it is going to be very long. Like I said at the beginning, it probably makes more sense now than when it was being sold alongside the 411 Himalayan. It will be a nice all round bike and if you start doing more off-road riding, you can easily start adding Himalayan bits and pieces to make it a bit more of a hardcore off-roader. Hi Simon, no, sorry, can't find one on the internet either, although I'm sure it's out there somewhere. The front one on my bike was pigging tight. So when I retightened it, I tightened it to tight and then just nipped it up about a sixteenth of a turn. That is scientifically classified as pigging tight. The rear one I just did by feel. For the front bolt I used my medium length socket wrench, not the huge one, just to give you some idea of the leverage applied. For the rear bolt I used the smallest socket wrench and just one hand. In both cases I tightened to tight and then just gave a gentle pinch up afterwards. I did it by feel, as always. Just remember Simon, after tight comes broken 😂 Always better to not over tighten and just check again after each of the first few rides, than to try to do it up too tight and end up breaking something. Good luck. If you do it by feel and keep an eye on those two bolts for a few rides, you should be okay. Cheers, Garry

The Wurx YT couple are working on a 2007 ish model so I'll ask on there too. If I get a reply I'll let you know in case you ever need it or if somebody else asks. Once again many thanx. Simon. Have a good day Gary and of course Ruby.

@@5150show Thanks for that mate. Full disclosure. I sold mine about a year ago to be able to buy a Himalayan, needed something for the trails. So unfortunately just legacy Classic content on the channel now, although who knows, maybe I will get another one at some point, certainly loved mine. It was a case of having to sell it to buy the Himalayan, couldn't afford to keep it unfortunately. Still have my Meteor though and of course any future bikes are very likely to be from RE because all three bikes I've bought new from them have been magnificent and stress-free to own. If your Classic is new, there is a chance that it won't have the sticky speedo issue to worry about. It seems as though RE made a revision to the speedo to solve the problem. Haven't heard if it is a 100% fix yet but hopefully it is. I think that was the only issue that this bike was renowned for. Other than that, mine was fine for 18 months and 6500 km or whatever it managed. On my bike, cleaning the speedo connector seemed to fix the speedo issue permanently btw., so always worth a try, should it happen to you ( there is a video about that on here somewhere and if it works, it's better than getting the speedo replaced and losing your original odometer reading ) Enjoy yours mate ! Lovely bikes that really come into their own after 2000 miles / 3200 km. Garry

Yes. It's probably contravening about 1000 EU health and safety rules but we all did it as kids and lived to be this old. Quite a refreshing throwback really, quite unusual to be able to do that these days ! Cheers Pete, Garry & Ruby

Interesting review, especially the bit about vibes through the handlebars as I get white finger riding the TL due ti the vibes. (I should change the bar ends). Hopefully we can catch up when we are in Spain later on this year

Hi you two. Yeah, sorry, I have been so busy this year, I've not been very good at keeping the lines of communication open. It's all getting a bit much these days. Yes, please do let me know what your plans are, it would be a shame to miss you when you are so close ! It's a shame about the vibes on the Himalayan 450 and they are at their worst at the speeds you would be riding, if you were looking to cover miles on fast roads. I've been told by folks in India that the engine smooths out again at 80 mph. So that's alright then, I guess ? Well, you know, unless the speed limit is 70 mph where you live 🤷‍♂️ The vibes killed it for me. If they had been a bit less, I would have had to consider getting one. But after that blast on the motorway I realised that this bike was no better on fast roads ( actually worse ) than the 411, so no point in having all that extra power. I certainly don't need it on the trails. Oh yes and the throttle response from the ride by wire throttle was a little bit unpredictable, which would have been particularly annoying on technical trails. Cheers you two, Garry

@@economicalrides defo will contact you nearer the time with dates. So bad about the vibes, it realyy causes me to dislike bikes. The BMW XR1000 I took out a few years ago had bad vibes for me so i have never been interested in it agan. My current 1250GS isnt too bad.

Well, watched it all now. Thought-provoking that stuff about the abandoned mine and the failure to re-invigorate it. I do love the slow ascent through Pine, Juniper and Cypress woods and the views on this type of video.😄

OK. You can go for a nice lie down now that you've watched it all 😂 Thanks Andy. I do enjoy that gentle ride up, very lovely, you just have to watch out for the maniacs on four legs and on four wheels, constantly trying to kill you. But if you get a nice safe run, it's very enjoyable. Met FIVE cars on the way back down though !!! One of them was pressing on a bit and it was a bit iffy. Managed to avoid him though !
