in the UK 🇬🇧 most people are extremely conservative un dancing to house. it's only due to my advanced dance skills I'm more varied than the average British person
First time I was ever in a club was at Red Zone in 1990. I recognize a few of these guys being in the club that night. As a matter of fact the girl Marjory was one of them, I see she passed RIP. They broke out a circle and everyone moved back to give them room. The club played The Poem and the smoke machine filled the floor. This square cage thing lowered from the ceiling while this insane light show flipped on when the speaking part of the Poem ended. I recall the dancers in the circle wearing those baggy suits and the big platform shoes that you saw in the Stomp video. What I remember most was Lisa Stansfield been around the world was playing outside as we were waiting to get in. I think Kenny Ken was on the rope. Once inside you had the dancers like in this video, the drag queen types, some hip hop people, wall street guys in suits, basically an very diverse group of late night people all dancing.
no disrespect to chicago but house music is a NY thing. if you remember paradise garage you'll understand why house is called garage. besides didnt Louie Vega introduce house to chicago?
I love this video!! I love that they mention The Red Zone and World clubs, unless its my friends that i use to hit up these clubs with? Alot of people don’t remember unless they were real house heads. Great video.
I loved Hip Hop, but my true love has been and always will be House. I grew up amidst a lot of homophobic behavior so I had to chill since back then, House and Techno was equated to homosexuality. I wish I had the courage back then to say “ain’t nothing gay about 4 on the 4 floor.”
sclSolitarium yo I feel that, I grew up thinking going to a house/techno music was “gay” till I went to my first show and it’s really just a bunch of “Free spirits” and hella drugs lol
btw, seems like most of the steps in Dee Lite Groove is in the Heart came from this scene. I firmly believed it was all early 70s psychedelic dance ...
It's funny how bad the early 90s fashion was...when you went to club they played dance music...and people danced...they didn't stare at the DJ and pump their fist. They played classics, r&b, hip-hop, and reggae all in the SAME party...beleeeedat!
I'm from NY and anybody who says it started here doesn't know what they're talking about. What started here is the style of dance known around the world as house dancing which a lot of this video shows. I was a big Liz Torres, Master C and J and Robert Owens fan back then.
GoRudy7 DJ Franky knuckles who is a god father of house music, was DJing in Clubs in Ny before he moved to Chicago. The foundation of the house music was already in NY like paradise garage and the loft party and there was a dance scene created in those clubs. Chicago really did not have "house dance" scene even after franky knuckle. Chicago had a great "footwork" dance scene but that was not house music they were dancing to.
+Kozo Okumura your a dumb bitch. House is official from Chicago. Disco influenced it. And disco wasn't just played in New York. The name house music comes from the name of a club in Chicago. Your ignorant
David Saldana Don't be so quick to call someone ignorant when you can't even decipher from the correct usage of YOUR and YOU'RE......The way you were using it requires the CORRECT usage of YOU'RE ...... You're= is a contraction of you and are....Ex. You are ignorant.....or ........You're ignorant..... Your is a possessive pronoun......Ex. This is your car...... Class dismissed........
