We love cruise holidays and try to get good value out of them by using all the ship facilities and exploring all the ports. Life is short - and so is money! With this in mind we are trying to see as much of the world as possible. We try and choose holidays and cruises that give good value for money.
We share hints and tips on how to save money and bag the best deals both before and during travelling.
We are a couple in our early 50's who want to have as many adventures as possible.
Been on both and Aurora for us. Didn’t rate some of the food on the buffet on Ambition. Had the worst crumble ever 😂 however the entertainment on Ambition was fabulous
You are so lucky in Britain to have such a choice of no-fly cruises. We have to fly for 4 to 5 hours to Sydney to get on a ship which costs around $2000 return for both of us! That's why we don't cruise often. Anyway, it's always fun to watch you two on your adventures.
Thanks, Joan. If it makes it any easier, we live in the middle of the country, so it is always at least a 3-hour drive to get to a cruise terminal 😁 Thanks again for watching 👍
What a lovely video. I tell you, I would love a conservatory, especially in the rain. Do you have a window seat for reading books, that’s the dream. Anyroadup, what a fun idea for a video. I’ve not done a P&O cruise yet but we are on the Azura, next October, which is nice. As for Ambassador, we are huge fans - we always seem to end up on the Ambition, so we’ve seen the crew members at the beginning and end of their contracts, and somehow they maintain the energy and smiles. Such amazing people. As I grow to hate flying ever more, and our old fave NCL offers less for more, I find myself just wanting a nice, relaxing Ambassador trip, even though that means formal nights (ugh).
Some not travel related advice. Don't go down the conservatory route! It was here when we moved in. Too hot in the summer ☀️ too cold in the winter ❄️. This was the one day in the year it was usable! Interesting what you say about NCL. We have just come back from a Virgin cruise. If you don't like formal nights, you might find that one interesting. Thanks for watching.
Virgin? Eek no, I know the sex toys were just an opening PR stunt, but ship-wide parties and drag queens? It’s a prospect as horrifying a prospect as giant mice and ducks.
Thanks Nik. We definitely put the anal into analysis! Anyway, shouldn't you be enjoying Istanbul? Turkish delight on a moonlit night, in the words of the song. Hope you are having a good time.
@@TravellingLightLisa yes, thanks, nearly 10.00pm here so winding down after our first full day here. 24 degrees here today but very manageable. Look forward to a catch up next week.
Was für ein tolles Video - You guys had lovely weather. Some really good filming in this. It looks a great city to walk and explore. And the Free Tour option looked a good one. Plenty of money saving tips too in a millionaires den … You had plenty of time ashore to make the most of your day.. Enjoyed this and. ….Welcome Back Giles !
Cheers guys 👍 It's good to be back! There is still lots more to do in Hamburg that we never even had a chance to look at. It's definitely a port worth repeating. Thanks for watching. 😁
Quite useful for anyone that's into art. We mainly use staircase B between decks 12 and 2 & 3, and don't use lifts. Only use A for the gym. I think it was 199 stairs each way to go up or down the 10 decks. Anyway I call "Cinema" on staircase B, Heinz 57. I think it looks like a pile of baked beans and just happens to be 57 stairs down from deck 12. I didn't realise it was called "Cinema" until you pointed it out.
I love the fact that you count the stairs and recall that 'Cinema' is 57 stairs down from 12 😁👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated.
I never realised the correlation of the artwork before on the staircases, thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will look a bit closer next time I board. Jennie.
I'm glad to have helped bring it to your attention. As a painter myself, I perhaps paid closer attention than most. I have never seen anything official to describe the thematic correlation, so the descriptions are my own. Thank you for watching.
It was a bit different, and I really enjoyed putting it together. There are a few too many ships for my liking, but what can you expect! Thanks for watching 👍
What about the bars ? Great reference to the 'Magnificent 7' in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. Absolute class folks, currently showing on ITV4 weekly on a Thursday at 9.00 p.m. "So There".
I loved our inside cabin also on deck 5. Very clean. Just one problem, it was very noisy. I think we were right by an air conditioning room and a staff launderette.
Another excellent city review. Full of great advice such as how to save money on some of the tours and location of the toilets. I didn't know the information about the bridged so I learn things from watching your videos as well. 👍
Not sure why people say Guernsey is a nice place to visit … been there several times and seriously not impressed with it, it is the height of mediocrity as a place to visit.
Maybe its mediocrity is a big attraction! 😂 If we do ever go back in better weather and are disappointed, I shall remember your warning. Thanks for watching
Thanks for a great Hamburg tour. A free walking tour that costs £5 to book - enterprising! The bell tower looked excellent but I’m lazy, I’d have gone up that tower by lift and walked down Steve and I were on a group press trip years ago and Hamburg was one of the stops. The official guide took us to the Philharmonie and other modern showpieces. Me: ‘Will you be taking us to the older parts of the city?’ Guide: ‘You bombed them all.’ Me: ‘Well, you started it.’ Honestly, move on! Anyway, we did actually have a wonderful Beatles tour from a lady named Stefanie Hempel, she took us round the old sex clubs and played Fab Four songs outside. Magical. Steve tells me charity shops are arrest seen in Europe. Dunno why. Did we bomb them?
Hi Guys , another great vlog with the usual great information. We are going back on Iona in December for the Christmas market. I don’t think we will be in a fit enough state to climb those stairs. Pearls best bit of information was the toilets 😂.❤❤
@pearlandbrianstripsandadve8619 thanks guys. Appreciate your support 🙏 Yes I agree with Pearl, the toilets are always a must know 😉 I bet you're looking forward to your Christmas Markets cruise! We've never done one, look forward to seeing what you guys get up to. Have a great weekend 😀
We spent a day or two in Hamburg in 1976 on a European bus tour which we booked here in Australia. Back then, the city wasn't as nice as it is today, as far as I remember. The church is lovely.
Never been to Hamburg, but certainly looks well worth a visit. Lake walk looks great. Nice to see you are over the 2.5k subscriber level. Come on 3k !!
Does a cheaper cabin mean it should not be clean? Which of our 'moans' do you feel was unjustified. The dirty drawers, the filthy kettle, the stained pillowslips or the fact the bin wasn't emptied for two days. We are glad that your experience was better than ours. Did you want the truth or something beautiful? Thanks for watching and commenting.
Gross. I'm taking my first Cunard cruise in a few weeks and will check the cleanliness of the cabin carefully. Those pillows are absolutely disgusting. The plug outlets looked filthy, too.
Thanks for watching. Hopefully, our experience was the exception to the rule. A lot of staff had moved to Queen Anne, so it could have been down to understaffing or untrained staff. Have a great cruise because despite our cabin issues, she is a beautiful ship, and we really enjoyed our time on board.
We're joining the Ambition next week. We've managed to get our formal wear from local charity shops too. My dress was £8 and my partner's suit was £25. Seems to be the going rate! Great videos by the way, really helpful and honest. Thank you.
@bevwiseman6914 Fabulous! Glad to hear you got your outfits from the charity shops. I bet you both look fantastic. Have a wonderful time on Ambition and thank you so much for watching and commenting. We appreciate your support 🙏
Yes. Quite right. Lisa is scrupulous around hand hygiene. We don't film every occasion we wash our hands or sanitise then as that would be boring. Did you think from this video that that was not the case? If that was your only takeaway from it I can only apologise! 😂
They would probably have changed you extra for the testicular wash facility. Must admit that it would have woken me up in the morning with a jolt, resulting in a large claim for a possible back injury. I did notice that the electrical plugs looked dirty so it’s no surprise that the rest of the cabin was way below clean. I would have demanded a different room. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for this helpful videos. I'm on my first transatlantic soon, and have seen many negative reviews of the QM2. But the ship looks lovely and fresh in this video, and the food you show seems excellent to me. I'm looking forward to my trip again.
Hope our embarkation and cabin review videos weren't amongst the negative ones you saw! 😂 We loved the ship and the food was good. We also have a video due out soon showcasing the art on the stairways.
Well done guys! Great video. Wow you got monetised quickly! Took us a year! The community is definitely the best part. Like you we've both learnt a lot of new skills and we're excited to edit each week! 🍻
Thanks, guys. It was an interesting reflection on the year. The creative community on YT are great. Let's see what 2025 brings! Cheers to the good times as they say 🍺😂👍
Another excellent cruise review with plenty of great tips. I couldn't see from the video whether the PCs in the library have any CD players with them. I know that PCs don't have them now but going back a few years, the tower that came with a PC would always have a CD player in it. If they did have a CD player, that might explain why the PCs are in the library along with the DVDs as I seem to remember that, going back a few years, it used to be possible to watch a DVD on your computer by putting it in the CD player that was part of the PC tower.
I've seen quite a few videos of different P & O ships and none of them appealed to me, but Aurora looks really nice. A more traditional ship. Thanks for the tour.
It is interesting how much variety there is across the fleet. Aurora was lovely and, as you say, very traditional. As ever, thank you very much for watching and commenting.
Brilliant. My kind of video. Your second best video after the one in Lichfield. I thought the narration/commentary was excellent. The Crows Nest and Terrace Bar definitely look like my kind of places. Table tennis - fantastic, I reckon like with the darts, the old magic would still be there. Regarding the DVD's, I'd take my own combi player in case there were VHS videos available (although I'd take my own just in case).
Hi. Just found the video. I am trying to figure out if you are so negative because your are doing this for views or not used to the prices charged for drinks at sea. You seem like lovely people but I thought you were looking for things that seem to be normal on a cruise. Perhaps you set your expectations too high? I have been on the QE2 four times, and have experienced very nice crew members who looked after me for the whole 7 day cruise and people who couldn't be bothered especially the staff at Pursers office. My first trip was in the same cabin as yours. I knew going in about the prices of things and the standard gratuity charged. Certainly should not have dirty cabinets though I found some good things on the menu and and things that were not. It is a mass cooking operation in the Britannia. I usually do 1 or 2 nights there and the rest at Kings Court so I pick and choose what to eat. All my trips on QE 2 have been Transatlantic I really the quiet nature of the QE2 and all the spaces. I hope your cruise got better.
Hi, and thanks for watching. If you watch any of our other videos, you will see that we are usually 'glass half full' people. We didn't set out to make this a negative video but we were genuinely shocked by the disorganisation, poor service, and standard of the cabin (see our cabin review 🫤) on our first day. To be fair, we did know the drink prices before we went on but just made the point as they are much higher than other lines we have been on. We loved the ship though and I hope this comes through in our ship review. We also have a video on the staircase art due to come out next month.
Great review and very interesting to see how the experience on same ship can differ. We had long lines and very dubious food in the buffet on Aurora. I had an omelette that was half cooked!! Looks like the fixed dining at the MDR worked out well, getting to know your servers makes such a difference. Many thanks for a great review.
@ALifeintheParks Thanks for watching. We do appreciate it. I think that people can have totally different experiences even on the same cruise! Dubious food sounds ominous, and having to wait in a long line to get it is even worse! 🫤
@@TravellingLightLisa Me too! So often the menus are so familiar now I know what I’m having before entering. Being a veggies do you choose the night before?
@ALifeintheParks Lisa does, but that is only because she has a food allergy. I always choose on the day, as I have no idea what I would like to eat in 24 hours time! 😂 There is usually a reasonable veggie choice these days, but if not, that's when we head for the buffet.
Wow - This showcases this wonderful ship. There’s a lot of cruisers that swear this is P&Os finest ship and your video certainly showcases why people think that. A great ship tour and we think that Lisa will take Giles on your next cruise on this ship .. Thx for sharing this .. Brilliant !
@CooksExplore thanks guys. I would love to revisit this ship, with or without Giles 😂 It is definitely my favourite P&O ship so far but still have Arcadia and Arvia to try.
This video, and the linked ones covering food, ship and DIY excursions have been incredibly well put together. I can’t think of anything else someone looking to travel on Aurora would need in terms of honest, unbiased and detailed information. Especially in the earlier videos in this Aurora series, it’s been great to see you and Olivia enjoy yourselves so much. Quality time with family is priceless. Keep up the great work !
@paulhanson9960 No problem. We enjoy making them, so your kind feedback is really appreciated. Have a fabulous time on Aurora, and enjoy the Caribbean. 😁👍
@@TravellingLightLisa Thank you! Never been on more than a 12 night cruise so a 24 night one will feel strange! You and Olivia bounce off each other so well in these videos, light hearted but informative
Really enjoyed this tour nice commentary and great pace!! We are thinking of aurora next year, rach loved it this year. I love that aft, chilling in the pool must of been amazing! Wrap around deck 👍 Main reason though I want to go on is my DVD collection is getting low….blockbusters at sea😁 Lovely to see a fast cock chilling in the atrium
Cheers! That is much appreciated. 👍 We are still deciding on an itinerary for next year. We are considering something a little off piste in January (and it is not skiing!) Glad you enjoyed the gold cock! 😂 Thanks for watching again.
