My name is Dan and these are my Angling adventures in the Midwest region of the USA. I love fishing for Walleye, though I will target other species on occasion. Here, you might not see the biggest fish, nor will you see the most fish, but you will get thoughtful and high quality content designed to make you feel like you're in the boat with me. You'll also find instructional videos and honest product reviews. As the De Facto spokesman for the SSV-18 boat from Lund, I can also answer any questions you may have about this amazing, budget friendly boat. Thanks for checking me out, I'll see you on the water!

@JonGunnerOutdoors thanks Jon! I'm a big fan of the hat visor mount, I know if I see something with my own eyes, it probably got filmed. I use the stationary in the back corner as the primary camera because it gets a perfect field of view, but the hat really fills in the blanks! I'm very lucky to have Petenwell just down the road, but it's well worth the trip. Thanks for watching and tight lines bud!

Lowrance Paper Graphs only showed you a black and white V- You didn't know what it actually was- a false signal maybe?- A Front Facing Sonar with a 4k camera with a powerful zoom ually show you structure on the bottom and the fish relating to it- All you have to do is watch your lure descend on yor monitor - like watching TV - and put the bait in front of the fish- Watch him grab it and set the hook- Lots of skill involved in that- The price and size will come down and when it does anglers will be using these in tournaments- Then they will have to ban these- but if they do- they will also have to ban FFS!!

I have a telescopic rod that is great. It's a Souigayalang ? Their reels are good too. I've had it for a few years now. It was from Amazon . I think it was $20. I need to try Temu . I had a couple of light Souigaylang reels when I got into ultralight fishing for trout or bluegill. They are going still after 8 yrs . Of course I bought better reels since , but one of them still goes wherever the telescopic rod does.

Thanks so much for the review. Hard to find good videos on this model. I have a Honda 15hp, think itll be enough to get this on plane with one person? How much was the cost for just the boat?
@dansmidwestangling
@dansmidwestangling 11 дней назад
@rippinrogers I believe 18 footer and trailer with the casting deck and floors was in the neighborhood of 8500 w/o motor,, but that was at the end of 2021 so it's likely more now. I do not recommend anything less than the 60hp on the 18ft model, I think if you're set on that motor the SSV14 would be better suited.
@rippinrogers
@rippinrogers 11 дней назад
@@dansmidwestangling thanks for the feedback. Looks like 60hp is the max rating on the sticker of the SSV18, if I look at the 14ft model it says the max is 25hp. My 15hp would still be a bit low using your assessment. I’d bet the lowest a dealer would sell with the SSV18 would be a 40hp tiller? That’s my guess. I want to have a pull start motor and no electronics in the boat. So I’ll have to see what I can come up with for a bigger outboard that’s still mainly pull start (not E start and pull start emergency) for the SSV18. Do you know if the boat needs a long shaft outboard or standard height outboard?
@dansmidwestangling
@dansmidwestangling 11 дней назад
@rippinrogers I believe it'll be a long shift, but I'll measure mine this evening and get back to you. As far as ordering goes, a dealers gonna put on whatever you pay them to. You might be able to locate an older 2 stroke that's got a little more oomph and still pull start like you want.

Hi Dan. Great videos on the SV-18. I have been fishing out of Lunds in Canadian fishing camps for the past 50 some odd years. I am finally looking into getting my own boat and think the SV-18 is perfect for me fishing all over MI in rivers, small lakes to occasionally hitting the big water in Lake MI or Huron. I will probably pair it with a 40hp command thrust Merc. I will likely spend most of my time in rivers that are full of obstructions at times. I am wondering whether it is best to add a jack plate or use a prop guard? Or is the command thrust heavy duty gear case enough? Wondering what you would do.
@dansmidwestangling
@dansmidwestangling 12 дней назад
Thanks! I recommend getting the 60hp command thrust. I'm a big believer in always getting the max rated outboard. I do not have a jack plate or prop guard and have run in 1.25 feet of water on the wisconsin river with mine. The boat can go scary shallow and handle a lot bigger water than people might think. 2.5 seasons with the boat and I'm a firm believer it is the best boat for the money hands down, especially if you're doing the shore camping or the Canadian outpost thing. My most recent fishing video is a prime example of how it's literally a go anywhere do anything kind of rig and meant to do big boy stuff. You will NOT be disappointed!

What i dont understand is all motors are supposed to go through a break in period. But every motor, be it outboard, car, motor bike, truck what ever. When they are finished being built at the factory, every motor is put through its paces. No such thing as a break in period there. It will get run up to full throttle and every thing in between to look for possible flaws in the manufacture process of the motor. I have had lots of new outboards, cars motor bikes. Nearly all of which I followed the break in process. The last 2 new outboards i have had, both honda. From new, i ran them like i would normally run a motor, half to three quarter throttle, no up and down in the rev range. When getting out of the hole and onto the plane, full throttle all the way, as old mate here says that really helps to seat the rings in. Both motors i sold with over 500 hours on each, both never gave me an ounce of trouble and both never used even a drop of oil between the 100 hour services. The dealer i bought both motors off, I asked him about the break in period, he said to me straight out dont worry about it, just treat the motor as normal, just dont go wide open throttle for more than a few minutes at a time till after a few hours run time. What made me change my mind about break in periods is look at a truck, or semi, depending on where you live. They dont go through a break in period, they bget 50 odd tons slapped on the back on a trailer and away they go, them motors get way over a million ks or miles if you like no problems at all. So what is every one take on this?

@notnotElijah thanks! It survived 2 more outings and the trip it broke on is on a video on the channel. I use a "line spooler" gizmo similar to the the one illustrated, but I attach mine to a slim broom handle, and tape on a cheap and nasty adjustable reel seat (butcher's tape is good) so that I don't damage a fishing rod by over or under tightening it.

My issue with Livescope is that it borders on negating the principle of fair chase, which is a fundamental aspect of ethical hunting and fishing. Part of the challenge of fishing is using your intuition to locate the fish. Something about seeing a blip of a fish on a screen (that you wouldn’t otherwise see) and dropping a bait in front of it doesn’t sit right with me. Even with no guarantee that it will bite. I stare into screens too much these days to want to do so out on the water.
