This is indeed a cute movie scene. However don’t let Hollywood fool y’all. Pimps, drug dealers and gangsters have a net negative influence on our kids. Enjoy the movie but don’t romanticize the narrative. Kids are more influenced by what they see you doing and less influenced by what you say.
It's amazing how 70s movies feel so much more naturalistic than so many of the movies that came before AND after that decade. Truly a great time for original filmmakers.
This is a movie that used racist tropes to deliver an anti-racist message. It's so clear in scenes like this that Bakshi understood different types of anti-black racism, especially this condescending "liberal" kind.
