I had a ride behind her (double-heading with the ugly Flying Pig engine) on the Severn Valley Railway, in 2016. I would have bought the model of her, had it not been quite so expensive.
Lovely Locomotive. 125 years old and still awesome :) Yeah would like to see the Bachmann models return featuring some minor improvements but also focus on the other members of the class as well as 828. Would also love to see more Scottish stuff modelled in general not just rolling stock but loco's like the Weymass Bay tanks or the CR river class even a super detailed version of the Cale Single would be awesome.
Is this not just a painted version of the Derby Lightweight 2-Car? As the underfames do not show the associated battery packs? Still a nice model though.
Hi there, yes this is based on the Derby Lightweight original tooling. Unfortunately it would have been prohibitively expensive to tool up a new version with the battery equipment but Bachmann have tried to model it as closely as they can within the bounds of the tooling.

Its a nice model but at $534 its a tad to much, especially when I can get a ATC 4 car EMU for $450 odd. Still it is a nice model. I might have missed it but what year did it become a test unit??
I know nothing about this model, but the video repeats several times that it had batteries to power it. On the model, these are not included, so how can this be accurate?

Not one for me, though it’s a lovely model in the BR Research livery. Well done RoS and Bachmann for producing something out of the ordinary, keep at it and hopefully there’ll be something for me in the future (hint, I wonder what train you could produce using the EFE Leyland National Mk1 and Mk2 bus toolings 😉).

@@railsofsheffield Thank you for that information. I only have a smallish layout albeit with 1st to 3rd radius curves so operation would be a bit limited. I had that experience with 18000 so I think I'll pass with this one.
You and Heljan have done a fantastic job on this loco, I received mine (18100 Gas Turbine version) back in February after having it on pre order for I think it was 2 years but the wait was most definitely worth it, it was really a must have loco for me as I have purchased your 18000 which also I have had no issues with, onto my model of 18100 though it’s excellent, having it sat next to and running opposite my 18000 is great, the overall detail on the model is fantastic, one thing I really like, on mine is the representation of the grease on the buffers, performance on mine has also been excellent and haulage capabilities is again great, I now have a DCC controller so may look at getting mine sound fitted, overall a fantastic model from both Rails and Heljan.
I thought the Fell Dieasel loco with 4 Engines and coupling rod drive to be more unusual than this loco. The the film says it similar to the NBL Class 15 & 16 locos.
Is the tooling final? The back of the non-corridor tender looks different to how Mallard’s does in the NRM. Mallard’s has a smooth curve at the top whereas the model doesn’t; the sides are higher than the back. Is this something other A4s would’ve had?
Out of interest any reason why you dont mention the Mallard in the A4 lineup part of the video? when its very much part of the range, both in the email i received promoting the launch & on your website
We all love the sound of an A4. Perhaps Dapol could create models of Bittern, Dominion of New Zealand, Dominion of Canada and Sir Nigel Gresley. We've never seen all 6 preserved A4s in model form together yet. It would be good if you could show off Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Bittern, Union of South Africa, Dwight N. Eisenhower and Dominion of Canada together, the 6 preserved A4s. How wonderful it would be to see all 6 preserved A4s running alongside each other, in model form.
Wow no increase from the 2016 RRP, though this time you must pay the full price. I guess in today's condition that's probably better for the manufacturer. I bet Hornby is working on a smoke generator for their A4s.
Hi Brian, please bear in mind these are preproduction samples and lighting can heavily affect how the paint looks. Make sure to check out the pics on our website too. We will show updated samples too, closer to release.
The EMU is nice to look at, but I don't have room for one. Besides, my new N Gauge Railway, the Winter Wonderland Steam Railway, can only accommodate steam engines. Steamies say Merry Christmas better than the EMU in my book.
Good to hear that the Kinesis DCC control has a hand book of plain simple English as many handbooks are for the tech freaks full of terms which are just pure technobabble. NCE is the only one so far that I've discovered that doesn't go in for technobabble with everything you need to do being simple operations in plain commonsense English. Good to also see wireless as the Dynamis system was only a glorified TV remote control in operation which has many limitations. I like the class 31's too. I have an old crumbly 31 from the H competitor so I need to renew it and I like Bachmann made diesels so I've been waiting for you to do a class 31. A good presentation Richard
While I like the Pacer Unit, I never became exactly fond of it. My model era is preserved steam, and sadly, I can't afford the model and don't have room for it. Sorry to disappoint you guys. It looks like very few took kindly to riding inside the Pacer Units, possibly because they preferred the 108 DMU. I could be wrong.
