Thank you for your kind comment, it's very peaceful and relaxing in the cemetery. At the time I was annoyed my crunching footsteps could be heard, but it's been 10 years since I was last there, I quite like hearing them now.
Great documentary and very relaxing. I visited Highgate in October of 2022 and it was such a wonderful experience. I arrived just after it opened and only encountered 3 other people. There was a frost and as I walked around the circle of Lebanon a light snow flurry came. It was so quiet, peaceful, and perfect. I love visiting old cemeteries when i travel and Highgate is my favorite one. Theyve left the perfect balance of wild nature and manmade monument together in harmony. One day ill return. My only wish is that i could be buried there but im afraid thats not in the cards for this American lol.
I watch this docu every night before I go to bed, something about it is so relaxing. I love how timeless it is. I would love to visit Highgate one day, such a beautiful place steeped in so much history. It's amazing to think that in the fast, changing pace of the city of London, Highgate Cemetery stays the same like a time capsule

This was a very well produced, written and actually filmed documentary. My meaning that likely 16mm film put through a camera to film the doc. The pictures, the information, the recounting of events and the history are well documented, cheers!
It could just be "background" noise, but at different parts of the video, I could SWEAR I heard (in no particular order), a man screaming, moaning, faint laughter, and rattling chains. Beautiful cemetery, but definitely not a place I would want to be wandering around after dark!
The Beer mausoleum was built for, Ada Sophia Beer, who died at the age of 8 from Scarlet fever. Inside is a beautiful sculpture of an Angel enfolding her and raising her to heaven. Later Julius and other family members were laid to rest inside. Imagine what it would cost today to commission such a magnificent monument.
The vary first grave on the tour is James Selby, famous coachman and my great grandfather. I live in Australia now so it’s a very long way to visit him!
Are u living in highgate cemantry??¿i wan to visi but im living in india!!!so far can anyone help me to come there??? I want to marry if any single man ready to marry me
Its worth noting that the filmmakers for Harry Potter and the goblet of fire used this cemetery as the inspiration for the little hangleton graveyard where voldemort is reborn
Wat amazes me are those huge big tombstones how they were placed while so many graves around i keep askin myself how on earth was it possible to get it there upstairs to the grave it self and placed deep respect🙏🏻
I have an ancestor originally buried in Windsor Chapel, may have then been moved to Highgate. I live in New Zealand. Is there an online list of burials.
I found the whole pace of this documentary calming and peaceful. Thank you - so much history! I've often wanted to visit Highgate Cemetery - I'll make an effort to do so 😃
Wow, mixer feelings here, at one hand its marvelous, on the other is spooky as hell! I thought I was not superstitious but I would not wander here at night for sure!
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
