The lack of experience just fromm being so young wasnt enough to stop them form being legendary. They have matured wonderfully and I absolutely love their new music. But there is just something so special about their first album. I guess its like that with a lot of incredible bands. FOALS is GOATed for me though! Much love from across the pod!
I was at an intimate gig, spoke to Yannis and Jimmy and asked if they’d ever play any b-sides live specifically wear and tear, Yannis said “probably not no, but I do really like playing that song though”😂😂
As they barely play any Antidotes live these days my jaw fell to the floor when I saw them recently and realised Olympic Airways was being performed. Dream = lived!
The older Foals understood rhythm gave the angst that keeps songs fresh and forever young. Every song sounded like I'm party crashing... now it's more like come around to my pool with your six pack, safe ketchup and 2.5 kids and a car/house. And man that beat tempo upgrade and offbeat by all at 8mins in... is showmanship.
Honestly, I feel like they've grown amazingly well. I don't understand why some "fans" have such a hard time letting artists be. They're still Foals. Life Is Yours is to me their second best album.
Dios santísimo, cómo es que no había visto esto antes ?! La energía de esta presentación es de otro mundo, fué como volver a descubrir Antidotes. <3. Me encantan sus nuevos discos pero debo decir que Antidotes me voló la cabeza.
This is brilliant. I can hear part of their new songs in this performance, and parts of Antidotes exist in the newer albums, but nothing has come close to repeating the vibe and sound of Antidotes. I really hope they return to this style. No band has come close to creating this sound.
There's an interview of Yannis where he talks about how life is yours was made and he casually drops that they always tried to leave the old sound of antidotes behind but have never been able to achieve a complete turnaround. So yeah, it's true, theres antidotes in every album but not all that much and that's the most we'll get.
7:46 this intro to Balloons is just flawless. How they all sync up and then this raw snare drum kicks in.. I still love them today but that definitely was peak Foals.
I do think that it’s the closest we get as the rawest Foals in their history. So much energy and punk attitude. I do think that this energy got more refined and subtle over the years but man, the delivery and youthfulness of these anthems will never grow old. This band at this moment was at their peak. Sorry to say that. TLF was an achievement but after that, I must admit, I lost them completely even though I am a firm believer of their talent. Antidotes does it for me after all those years. Thanks Foals! Cheers!
In terms of live playing they definitely weren’t in their peak. If you compare Foals concerts now and then it’s night and day. These boys wouldn’t headline glasto that’s for sure.
This might just be my favourite set Ive seen from them, they are always fantastic to this day but they seriously bought thier A-Game here, especially heavy water onwards is outstanding!
This said, the more I listen to the new album the more I dig tracks. The Sound for instance is pretty rad. I’d love to hear that tune with some of their original tones and mix though.
