Wow! What a find! I was recently given a Simplocarpus renifolius from Russia but I’ve never even heard of a variegated form of S. foetidus. Simply amazing
Nettle seems to variegate a little more often than most plants it seems. Whenever I hike past a patch of them, I usually take a look. Seem to find a couple of variegated ones every summer...
@@markcollins2883 okay, but how is the percentage of variegation so high out there. The place where I live there I see less to none variegation. It's very very rare out here. And very unstable. It rarely expresses itself as it does in your findings.
@@saidiprai2355 That is a great question. A viewer from the UK commented something similar. I'm not a scientist, so I don't know. Is the mutation a sign of something else in the environment?
@@markcollins2883 I too am not very known to the factors that cause such variegation. But could, the plant be exposed to certain conditions might it variegated... Who knows. Oh and where you from? Sorry i do not know where you are from. I am from Darjeeling (India)
@@markcollins2883 that would suffice. Keep making more I wonder if you would ever find some exotic variegated aroids or other ornamental plants.... Hope for the best. Cheers to you mate.🥂
I've found quite a few interesting things in this spot. Did a little digging with a small hand shovel the other day and have pulled out a couple intact bottles from early 1900's. I think you are right, there's probably a lot under the surface. So far, I've enjoyed discovering a little more with each visit...
I was pretty lucky with this find. I slammed on my bike brakes to look at a different plant that I thought might be variegated (it was not,) and this violet was growing a few feet away...
That's a great question! I'm not a scientist, so I don't know the "why's." I just assumed it was a genetic variation like albinism in people or animals. I've only been looking for a few years, but I've seen wild variegation in plants in various locations across the country. I would also guess that they are definitely there in England too, it's just a matter of spotting them!
Nice! That was one of my favorite finds of last year. I'm hoping to see if it has come back this year and will probably check in a couple weeks. Thanks for the ID...
