Please join us as we share our fishing adventures. New episodes every other Monday. The goal is to not only show the fish we catch, but also explain our rigging and tactics. Let me just say that we are not professional anglers, just a boat that usually comes home with fish after each trip. Thanks for watching, please subscribe and leave comments and suggestions.
Boy there's a lot that goes into that question. Ideally I like the period to be 3 times the swell height. (i.e. 3 at 9 seconds) I'm also looking to see if the wind and waves are coming from different directions. Wind from the south with waves from the north is a washing machine that I avoid. The boat can handle some pretty tough weather, but I don't enjoy trying to fish while being thrown around the deck. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Tight Lines!
It's a good idea. I'll give it a shot on the next trip. We just got back from a tuna run and I tried hanging bells on the line, that didn't work :) Thanks for watching. Tight lines!
We typically run stern and outrigger (8ft wood poles) meatlines along with 15ft outriggers with regular rods/reels. Any craft store carries jingle bells and we have 2 on each meatline. They rust out so change them each season. GL
Thanks for suggestion. I was thinking about trying the bell thing but wasn't sure if they would ring just from the boat moving. I'll try it out. Thanks for watching. Tight lines!
Definitely agree about the gaffing :) On the trip the average weight was 33lbs, with a couple of fish in the high 30 lb range. The wide angle on the Gopro makes everything look a little smaller. Thanks for watching!
There has definitely been a greater enforcement presence this year in the Northwest. We were boarded this weekend (Video coming). It's all good, we try to do everything by the book. This time of year we fish for "Hatchery" fish. Fish that were raised in hatcheries up river and released to grow in the ocean. They are identified by a clipped adipose fin on the back. If it's not clipped we assume it's a wild or "Native" fish and throw it back. This time of year on the ocean, you can only keep hatchery Coho. Thanks for watching. Tight Lines!
