i have the opposite problem on my tail gate it will open but it won't latch found out the bolt on the side that the latch mechanism latches to is broken and missing. found part of it in the latch assembly. time to hit the wrecking yard for parts.
Almost 10 years ago my brother-in -law drove away with my father-in-law's 1976 Camper Special because he convinced my mother-in-law she didn't need it. Are you going to keep the rims on the bronco hope you do they remind me of the ones on the general lee I like those rims, Tom’s off-road is having there show in July (22-23) you should make it out to that one if you can I’m going to it
Yep I will be keeping the wheels! I’ll just have the resurfaced, polished, and painted. They definitely are a classic look, and the General Lee has been a big inspiration for this build, especially with the new orange paint job that will be done. Not sure if I will be able to make it to the Tom’s Offroad event, but I’ll be at the Wisconsin Bronco Super Celebration hosted by Bronco Driver Magazine, July 6th-9th.
@@sams__shop I’m not going to make it to the Wisconsin event, Tom’s off-road event is the only bronco event I’ll be going to this year, can’t afford to go to any other event
I would... if there was an engine there to work on! I'm swapping my original 302, which is gone now, for an R2.8 Cummins. We are still in the tear-down phase, but we will be mocking up the new motor and body soon! Well Ford did offer an orange exterior and interior in ‘73 with the Explorer package as a factory color, besides, it’s my favorite color. The blue does look sharp, I agree. I’m gonna keep the glove box door the original blue probably, as a memento of the original color.
I have a 1970 bronco mines blue the same shade as yours is now, what engine and tranny is in you’re bronco? I’ve got the 302 and 4 speed tranny in mine
@@nickefgen9219 Awesome man, solid combo. Originally mine had the 302 and the 3 on the tree, but I’m putting a 5 speed crawler transmission and the R2.8 Cummins turbo diesel. Check out my video “Bronco Project Reveal” for more details on my build.

Do you have a segment about the catches on the end if they don’t open? I have one on the right that I have to manually open in order to close the tailgate.
I do not unfortunately, but it sounds like the side latch mechanism is stuck closed. I would try adjusting the linkage rod that runs to the side latch that's stuck, and using penetrating oil to see if it loosens up. When you actuate the tailgate handle, check to see that the mechanism is properly pulling on each linkage rod to open the side latches.
Sounds like an awesome rig man, keep that one forever. I always loved those old 4 speeds. My dream rig is a bullnose ford with the 6.9 and a 4 speed with Gearvendors overdrive.
This was awesome! I also grew up having a ‘73 Bronco as a member of our family. Fantastic memories of me and dad plowing through 2’ of snowfall, spinning in tight circles, sliding around. I loved to baby that Bronco by detailing it twice a year, made my dad so proud and happy. We lost him to Agent Orange cancer in 2012. I miss him. Thanks again for sharing your story. No go make new fun memories in your Bronco!

Incredible truck. Love the paint match bedliner. Also, nice idea on the led light. Out of curiosity which 5 speed do you have? I thought typically the 302 were mated to the 4 speed bogwarner. Is it the Mazda 5 speed or does it have the zf5peed manual?
Thank you! Yes there are often Broncos for sale, whether restored or completely rusted out. There are also Bronco vendors selling brand new parts, as well as a swap meet and tailgate part selling too.
