Put the modern in a modern home please, there are waaaay more of those and then show us how to decorate a Colonial home because I feel duped by your title and kind of wasted my time here.
@dianne..quite right. My husband and I just bought an 1803 colonial. Such a beautiful home in need of some TLC but the bones are there as they would be in a house of this period. I wouldn’t dream of outfitting it with modern!
@@adelejoy Thank you! So many buy colonials and remove all the beauty that makes them colonial. Why not buy a more modern home? There won't be any colonials left at this rate! Very sad IMHO.
@@diannekropp6900 yes, looking at real estate you’ll see these beautiful homes and then get to the interior pictures and the heart and soul has been ripped out. It’s like moving to the forest and cutting down all the trees sad and hard to understand.
Thy were called shotgun houses because you could open the front and back doors, stand outside and shoot a shotgun all the way through with no pellets hitting the interior. Basically a square tube shape like a mobile home.
I had a Jim Walters home built on my property as a guest house in 1994. The floor plan is the "Ridgemont", and for $43,000 it has been a wonderful home. My older home built in the 70s burned down in 1999 so we just made the guest home our main home and are very happy with it. No problems and solid , no frills construction techniques.
Love the photo's but doesn't really explain what Cottage is or a Cottage Home is There is no one speaking throughout the entire video which is kinda disappointing sense I was looking for an explanation. I might as well have just google searched it instead of watching this video to get an explanation of it. But if I wanted examples of design styles then this video is good for it.
For Real?! Almost none of these are craftsman... and the ones that LOOK craftsman-y are only craftsman-ish. Craftsman is NOT just details: that's like putting up some columns and calling it a Greek temple.
@MrDavenez He built his empire at a time when he could build the models for a low cost at his own expense. He started out post-war with barely any cash, built a home, and sold it with a mortgage. The way he later operated was that the buyer was required to provide the land, already paid off. The land was the down-payment for the home, in which Jim Walter would carry a 30-year mortgage. This quickly made him substantial profits. He had a large office building off Interstate 75 in Tampa, Florida. It consisted of two separate buildings, approximately 8 stories tall, of which the top 2 floors were connected by a bridge, which also housed office space. I drove past it several times in the 80's and early 90's. It was impressive, and the name "Jim Walter Industries" displayed across the top. Back in 1988, I had planned to buy one of his models, the Hatteras, which was a stilt house. Eventually, I ended up buying a home in a pre-existing subdivision. As time went on, Jim Walter was no longer able to build homes at a price where he could yield a functional profit, and this set in motion the beginning of the end of a once very successful empire. Two of his model homes, one being the Victorian style one, are still standing near the SW corner of Interstate 75 and State Road 27 in Marion County, Florida. (northern Ocala)
@Dave-co1cv Wow, what a story, I had no idea he was based in Tampa, I didn't move to Florida until I was 16 yrs old in 1994. It's sad I never got to see the cool office bldg. It's sad when once an empire of a business goes down. I hope he made enough money to take care of himself and generations after him. I have one question for you, do you regret the house you did buy in the subdivision instead of a home on your own property? I know I have always felt especially here in florida that it's so much nicer not to have neighbors so close to your home in a subdivision. Wondering if you feel like I do ?
@@MrDavenez My house is built on my land, and I like it this way. The development is simply a deed restricted neighborhood. I can only assume the office building is still standing, only with a different name on it.
