i always felt this episode missed an opportunity, instead of the grand treasury being a dream, rom.and garak should have beamed quark into the holideck to fool him into living. would have been consistent with Rom's character. the dream was a cop out endjng
I've always thought of Odo as being a pretty good example of a Lawful Neutral. Granted he's tip-toeing the line against Lawful Good, but, ultimately, law and order is his primary purpose.
Garak was such a highly trained operative that he was able to replace himself with a stunt double during the fight with worf while he continued to work on overriding the weapon controls

2:40 I think the Obsidian Order codes were hard-encoded into Cardassian circuitry. Like Quark's contact in "the Wire" looking up Garak's implant... Just looking up bioware... [alarm]. I'll bet the Obsidian Order never needed to cancel codes... they just [cancel] the individual who used them improperly...
This scene reminds me almost exactly of what happened in 2014 when my fellow school student's uncle called me out to the hospital nurses who summoned me about what happened to his niece when she went rogue. His health declined when I told the truth of the incident at a park nearest to the high school and his way he was laying down was exactly the same as I was like Garak and visiting the traumatised man at least two days he died of complications. Instead of the identical nature of the scene but with different conversations. He wanted me to make his niece pay dearly for the destruction she caused to the whole family and relatives he has upheld for decades but I quietly declined and left 30 minutes after he told me during the conversation. It's a scene whare I get goosebumps watching because how it looked so similar and haunting. I felt like Garak speaking to Tain on that matter.
Nope 1st it was a psych test to see if Nog can handle it 2nd Sisko can't be a bigot by pointing out the Ferengi natural love for profit it's in their culture.
I like to think Tain is the sort of person to banish a former lieutenant out of spite, but to also give him an up-to-date clearance verification code, just in case he may need it
Love how Sisko at some point early in his career took the time to study and understand Ferrangi behavior and their cultural practices even the most nuanced aspects.. Every Ferangi rule of acquisition he learned it was understood and he respected the gravity of those rules in respects to them. He understood those rules are just as important to them as Starfleets laws were to him.
Something I just noticed about this scene is Garak says 78 hours, 3 days on the station (Bajor has 26 hour days as does DS9). I always loved that little detail but never knew they gave it this much thought.
The funny thing is that Starfleet has always spied on other races, they just tend to rely more on their advanced technology. Like in the TNG episode Unification, it's revealed that Starfleet found Spock on Romulus because their long range sensors are so advanced that they're able to see the faces of individual people on the surface of Romulus.
