Can plow anything just use one less bottom in most cases of plowing sod or alfalfa. If it's really tough plowing chiseling before plowing works well.

I'm curious, why starting one side and plow across? You waste a trip going back doing nothing. Why not start center and plow out to edges?

Another reason several different hp here and size of plow so they can stay out of each other's way better.

Love those old John Deere D's. The A's and AR's were good too. I remember how you could tell those D's were running just right by how they'd bounce slightly on their front tires. They weren't the best on fuel but aside from that bolt in behind the carburetor you could overhaul them with a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers- change the clutch in the field.

Hope he has a fuel tanker for fill-up at the end of the field. That tractor likely burns 6 gal per hr.

Put that first plow in the ground and cover the furrow. The G will handle it and the plowing will look better. Maybe it is the International plow though.

*Sad Fact:* Thanks to modern emissions compliance, our modern farming equipment is now close to, if not now worse, for using as much fuel per unit of meaningful work done as these old machines were at their worst back in the day. There's a reason engine manufacturers stopped listing the HP Hours/Gallon (KWh/ Liter) numbers when emissions compliance started. The numbers for fuel efficiency got so bad no engine manufacturer dared to show them.
