Thanks for posting Jason. The citri-strip and the power washer are good ideas. I am planning to strip and repaint a metal door but I am going to remove it from the hinges and lay it horizontally across some sawhorses first. I think that will make the process easier.
I agree, one of the commmenters suggested coating it and wrapping ti in Suran wrap and leaving it overnight for an extended time??? sounds like it coulebe a good idea??? Let me know if you do that and it works.
Each to their own. I hate stripping. Get a good organic striper. Jasco is one. Lay it on saw horses, brush one way apply it heavy. Put plastic sheeting on top of it. Go have a coffee or a beer. Let it sit let it do the work. Once it is all bubble up remove the material. The plastic sheeting prevents it from drying out in which you do not want. Let the stripper do the work. Wash it with lacquer thinner or something similar. Union painter 40 + years commercial and residential. Not to concern about chemicals but stripper is organic not chemical. Used in a well ventilated area. Over time will cause brain damage in a low vented area. Mask / respirator will do nothing. Doing it Outside is the way to go.
You're doing it wrong. Slather the door with the orange stuff and wrap it in plastic wrap overnight and then use a plastic scraper to sluff the paint off.
I found some steel table legs but they have perfect circle holes in the legs. I’m going to spray foam inside those holes then bondo over them to make the legs with no holes. I think there’s paint in them. Should I wire brush them first then bondo them?
This has been the best vacation home for our little family. It has had everything we have needed to make our vacation complete. The location is amazing and so quaint! Jason was super accommodating and recommended multiple things to do and places to eat. We were provided with beach chairs and beach towels for the beach, which was super helpful because I am 9 months pregnant! There were even colored bath bombs in the bathroom that our 22 month old LOVED! We have already said that when we book our vacation next year, we would love to stay again. This was a wonderful experience!

Ideally located within an easy walk of Gulfport harbor, the historic downtown bars and restaurants, and a local grocery store. We checked into a spotlessly clean property, stocked for guests, and the most humorous and extensive local guide book I have ever seen a host maintain. The check in process was like returning to our own home it was so easy. ❤🎉 😊

I hope you made sure that the oil based paint was not lead. If the door if over 50 years old then it is a possibility! Stripping with a chemical is safer than sanding with Lead paint! Be safe!

Great place to stay at the Jason’s wine cellar rental. Very nice inside and outside. Even better than the pictures. Beds were good and outdoor space was a hit with the kids. We would book again!
Don’t let the ‘pleasant smell’ fool you. It’s still toxic. Taking the door off it’s hinges is the only way to do it right. If I came home and saw my guy doing that that then proceeds to power wash it I would have tweaked his nose 🤣
Good vid. Thanks. I just bought have the same door used, and am working on it right now, before I install it. BTW, I took the window out (several screws) mainly because I thought it might be easier than taping the window frame and glass because when working on it. In my case, they caulked on top of the screws and getting that hardened caulk out to get the screws out took more time than I will publicly admit.
Good experience, as you said, trial, failure, learn, success. I have seen professionals, though remove the door from hinges and place on a couple saw horses in the garage.

We had a fabulous 2 weeks at the Wine Cellar! The space was beautifully decorated and well stocked with everything we needed. The tea and coffee station was a bonus! We absolutely LOVED the screened in lanai which had a TV. Ceiling fans in the lanai kept us cool on hot days and a fireplace warmed us up in the evenings. The location of the Wine Cellar was perfect. We were only a couple of blocks away from all of the restaurants and shops on Gulfport's main street. Such a fun and vibrant area to explore. We also enjoyed Gulport's Farmers Market which set up on main street every Tuesday. We would certainly stay at the Wine Cellar again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to family and friends! Thank you Jason for a wonderful stay!
Immaculate rental, very well thought out with all the amenities and nice little touches! And it is a great location. My big pet peeve is cleanliness, Jason's Vacation Rental is really immaculate! This is my second time renting and I will rent again.
