I woke up extra early, so I decided to hang the hummingbird feeders out before they arrived this morning. I heard two Great Horned owls hooting in two different locations. I got a flashlight and decided to go for a walk to see if I could find out where these birds are perching on my property. I know they have a nest about three miles from my house. I saw one on the very tip top of a tall pine tree in my north yard. The other was somewhere far beyond it. Another large bird flew toward the owl, but it turned away and perched on a fence post. It was making an odd screeching sound but not hooting like an owl. Then I heard another bird screeching in the trees across a field from me. The owl left the pine tree and flew down to a fence post between me and the two birds that were screeching. My guess is that it was a flight and hunting training session that I interrupted. I hope they come back because we have a prairie dog infestation that needs to be either downsized or eliminated. Those little critters keep digging holes in the middle of my main driveway in and out of my property. Thank you for identifying that screeching sound for me. Now, I know we have four Great Horned owls in the area instead of just two.
What a majestic and beautiful creature. I find myself often amazed and taken back by the beauty and just marvel at these like they are something incredible to behold. What an animal, so strong, and so amazing. I almost don't have words.
I love owls, they either are just chilling on branches, being the sumbols of wisedom or predation. or they're doing dumb skits on gmod with zoidberg, the terminator, a sentient dorito bag, toon link and etc.
The camouflage kind of makes it look like a beehive when it’s coiled up. I wonder if that works as a deterrent for potential predators. Pretty brilliant if so
I saw this a few days back and couldn't believe it. I had no idea that some birds could even hover like that. I'm a wildlife freak, too. I thought it was a kite because we were on a large hill at a park where they fly em often, but when I saw it stop hovering and flew around a bit, I was shocked. lol. It did that a few times. Finally figured out what bird it was a few mins ago for sure and this vid is exactly what I saw from about 50 yards away around dusk. Too cool!
I live in Northern Utah and I just heard a beautiful birdcall I'd never heard before. I've been searching and I think I've pinned it at a Lazuli Bunting call! Though I didn't find the source bird unfortunately. Truly a beautiful species
A few pass through my yard annually, and sometimes overwinter. But every spring I have to look up up that unfamiliar song on RU-vid and figure out what it is. It's nice to have some documentary-grade video to help with that!

Just heard this outside of my house 4 30 am looked at all owls in my area searched all the sounds came to this on!!! So cool to here this. Thers only 4 in my area and all sound nothing like this beauty if a beard.
Amazing footage! That looks like a huge fish (a fully grown/adult Catfish?) the bird caught! The fish was struggling, but the hungry Cormorant managed to fully consume (alive?!) it all okay? It looked like the unlucky thing was desperately kicking sliding down that long throat! I wonder, does the large fish stand any chance of escaping if eaten in that condition? Maybe it can turn around inside the elastic throat/stomach and has a chance of survival here.
