Thank you for including a bit of unfortunate truth toward the end of the video. But there’s more. During the ‘30’s , Ford and Hitler were mutual admirers. Ford even traveled to Berlin to accept an award from Hitler. Ford eventually became exactly the kind of person that he despised as a young man. Henry outlived his son Edsel (cancer) and was consistently disappointed, right up to his death, that his son didn’t turn out like him.

I feel like back in these days, it wasn’t common to not follow in your family’s footsteps. I applaud Ford’s family for letting him indulge in his passion.

Jim Sim. 72 yrs old . Being one of the few tradesmen who has made many types of wood wheels .this is fascinating. The tool kit is much bigger and mass production is no 1 my day it was all by hand except band saw lathe and mortise machine all final assembly was by hand with a ton of different clamps every so often testing for true when rotating side to side plus up and down . Tolerance about 1 mm ...

Disappointing that the History Channel didn't mention the Dodge Brothers' contribution to Ford's success. Ford admitted that he could never have accomplished what he did without the Dodge Brothers.

He means average speed when a lap is listed as a speed rather than a time. Nascar and indycar call the lap time this way and so does the isle of man tt. Its the same thing just a different measurement of it.

Next time you go buy BBQ briquettes look for the Kingsford brand which is still sold everywhere. That sub company was created by ford in the early Ford years. I was told it was a way for ford to make money off of even the tiny scrap pieces of wood by turning them into charcoal. I'm not sure about that part but it sounds good lol.

Rain, sun, rain, sun. If I am correct only about 20 cars finished. The first visit on my own to the 24 heures du mans. The 'village' was an eye opener to a young man with very French side shows, freaks, strippers et al. Nasty accident near the end with a car on fire.

The “terrible music” you talk about, is that the 80s ESPN Speedworld music theme? at the start of a Glory Day’s episode? Or something else. The Speed World theme is wonderful, and always got me revved up to watch a motor racing broadcast! I miss it.

Waaay back in the day, Henry Payne held SCCA autocrosses at the track he built around the grounds of Payne Engineering. He would frequently take either his 904 (with the 6 cyl engine), 906, 908 or 910 around his track. I recall the day he stuffed his 908 into a tree that was near the edge of the track. Somewhere I have a photo of my dad standing between his 904 and one of the others.
