Based mainly in Victoria, Australia, this channel has come about because I'm a newbie to this 4WD and free camping thing....I'm also doing it solo or with little people in tow so I like a bit of research as I don't really want to get myself stuck or into a situation where being solo makes life difficult.
From my research I found it actually quite difficult to get visuals of the tracks and campsites that I wanted to use. From that I decided to record every track and campsite I went to so that any other 4WD folk who like a bit of knowledge of where they are going can see...ta dah!
I will always mention the date in my video so you can gauge for yourself whether conditions may have changed. Videos will be labelled simply so they are easy to search and if its a long track I'll put up the full track but I'll also speed up parts of the video. I will also put useful information in the description. Some video are very boring...nature of the beast.
I'm editing a video of my trip there this week. On a drive I found Rocky Ned Campground along the Lima East Rd. That campground also has drop toilets and a lovely walk to a waterfall FYI. Your video helped my decision to go there too :)
Great stuff. There’s definitely one campground I know I missed in Strathbogie so I’ll get back there eventually and I’ll go check this one you’ve mention out. Thanks for the info!
@@thewanderingnewbie1, it would of been around 9 years ago, the fire pit was just a hole in the ground with a few pine logs put together to resemble a bar.
I'm going for my first ever solo camping trip this weekend. I've always gone with someone before so a little bit nervous. Thinking as it's my first trip alone I might go where there are still a few campers around instead of going deep in the bush. Got a few places in mind but still undecided. Maybe Sheepyard flats, Cheyenes bridge, Walhalla near Alberfeldy bridge or Talbotville.
Awesome! Embrace the challenge and go in with an open mind. I always think even if lots of things go wrong I’m actually not that far from home. Sheepyard flat is a good one. Lots of space, easy to get to. Don’t know if you’ve stayed at cheynes bridge before but the traffic noise going over the bridge can be a bit annoying.
@@thewanderingnewbie1 Thanks for the tip. Never stayed at Cheyenes bridge before, saw a couple of vids and it looks like you have to camp very close to other campers and the traffic noise would be annoying.
on a quiet day you'd have some space around you but it is very easy to get to and I often see large groups there with a tent city as I drive over the bridge, the river is great there. I have stayed there and found that through the night cars will go over the bridge and beep their horns rather annoyingly.
@@thewanderingnewbie1 I wasn’t trying to be negative. First time I’ve watched any of your vids. I too am new to this. Funny how the camera makes it look like you are driving faster than you are, and how the gradients looks less than they are. Keep up the good work and I’ll be watching😀
I think just after when this video was made I got a tablet so I don’t have to deal with the paper map. I always carry paper but it’s much safer now to not use it while driving.
I really appreciate these videos. Can you comment on the road between here and Low Saddle? I'm interested in the possibility of putting in an AAWT food drop there in September in an adventure-prone Subaru (dual range, AT tyres, UHF, bash plate, portable winch, clearance could be better) on account of the Jamieson-Licola rd being closed until November.
Sorry need to dig out my map to check where you mean. If you mean up the ‘main road’ just before the closure sign…..last time I drove down to wrens flat from there it got a bit thin and there was some earthquake damage. Can imagine that’s fixed now. So yeah single track in places, don’t remember dropping into low range so not hectic difficult.
@thewanderingnewbie1 lol these days l mostly just buy the wood, especially In NSW where chainsaws are not allowed in the Nat Parks grrr, leaves me more time to enjoy the camping without having to sharpen chains!!
I try and get it every time for you. It was a bit hard as the trees were pretty close so couldn’t see most of the river. I always hear you…..’give me more river, go slower’
@@thewanderingnewbie1 Nice one 😎. And if you can include a simple map or google map that would be great (like you sometimes do). Nothing too technical reqd as in those global possie numbers
Yep on all counts, the road in can get a bit thin but the walk up to the waterfall is a big tourist spot so the road is in good condition. It sometimes gets closed if it’s been damaged and need repairing but check the ‘more to explore’ app as it will have whether it’s open or closed.
Hi Lucy, my wife and I love your channel we've done so many of the tracks and destinations that are on your channel. As we are new to 4wding and camping it's great to have some reference on where to go and what to expect. Cheer's Kenny.
That’s awesome! Great to hear. So glad that you find them enjoyable and useful. Well now you’ve started you are going to be hooked for life. It’s good for the soul getting out in the bush!
Booked at this campground for next summer, this video was really helpful in deciding to go here and which sites to book. Really appreciate how you're cataloguing so many great Aussie campgrounds!
I've driven past that site a few times, next time its wet and I'm in the area I may make use of it. Having a long drop dunny really makes a difference in the cleanliness of these sites. First time I've seen your videos, will have a look at others you've done.
Nice spot, once you could drive up to the large body of water (lake?) but i'm sure they would have blocked that, leeches in some spots around there, they become very attached/clingy little buggers.😁
Many thanks for your work. It's really helping people like me to find and go camping places in Victoria. As I am new to camping, your videos are very helpful and informative. Already subscribed 👍
@@thewanderingnewbie1 I actually went to some camping places after knowing about them from your videos, before that I didn't even know those places. So, your videos are really helping me. 👍
Not directly from glasshouse. Trident arm has a boat launch but it’s not great and a few metres out gets very boggy. I have launched from trident arm, we didn’t have to winch to get it out but you can see evidence that people have had to winch. The following day we drove round to fisherman’s landing to launch.
@@thewanderingnewbie1 Thanks...I saw your video on the Trident arm launch it looked Ok I'm in the middle lane at 47 and can handle winching!...Good job on your videos very handy seeing the track into Trident.
Pretty sure I left the old poplars cg video up on the channel. This spot never used to have them but it got cut up really badly. They’ve put them in to stop the bad behaviour. I personally hate them and don’t like camping in places like this. I have stayed here with all these bollards and it just makes it had to use the awning etc and camp next to my vehicle.
Enjoy. Always check the date I make my track vids. Not that it will get steeper but may be a little more cut up in places. Always love a comment if you find it way different.
My mates dad (over 70yr old) takes his forester everywhere. Been up BillyGoats and beyond. I started the channel for people like me going solo and just wanted to know what things looked like but so many people have reached out to tell me what they use the vids for. Thanks for the comment. I do sometimes pull a trailer and I always find it quite limiting. Makes me think a lot more about where I stick my bonnet. Enjoy your travels and glad I can help.
It's cold overnight during Sept (freezing) and it's the prohibited time for catching Murray Cod, perhaps there's a couple of reasons why the place was empty. Have been there in January and it's well patronised. Enjoying your video's.
It really all depends on the day you go. If you go now you’d probably have bags of room at any of them. The river is not that accessible from what I could see at most of them. Water gauge had a nice spot which backed onto the river but the spots were very close together. Bull creek had big spots a bit more spread out especially as you go further into the campground. Not close to the river though. There is a road bridge that crosses the river at bull creek that gives easy assess. It’s on the bull creek video.
@@thewanderingnewbie1 awesome thanks looks like you can’t go wrong at any of them - they all looked quiet different from forested to quite open grassy and some gravely
Would love to go out and play with my patrol doing similar trips like yourself but unable at the current time I'm going through a tuff time anyway love watching your videos every time stay safe.
Having a mental break and time for yourself is so important. I also suffer with mental health issues and so bushwalking and exploring different parts of Gippsland is my way of escaping from and dealing with the stresses of life.
I think it’s important to recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health. Getting out there can really help to set the balance. I’m glad you’ve found that too.
