Had one of these in 1974 loved it, still have it now at 56 😂 my dad boxed it in garage but unfortunately the opening brackets broke and the helmet cracked so only have one side now. I looked to by spares but to no avail. Checked and the last one in new condition sold for £2500 🤦🏼♂️
The problem are the brakes that block the foot wheels to avoid they roll backwards or maybe the rubber wheels has no tracks or they worn out. When a leg moves forwards supposedly it can't move backwards because a couple of little plates block the wheels so the robot can walk.
Hi David, I found one in a junk shop, I am restoring it; the wiring and motor is faulty, the fuselage a little dent and lots of corrosion! Nothing like this beauty... I am cleaning it carefully but the RH engine lightbulb is faulty and I cant open it up without cutting. Guess best leave that as I don want to invasively damage the model. Yours is immaculate! Any advice on restoration? I cleaned the commutator and lubricated motor, Bushings a bit worn, added a 300mF capacitor to settle it down. Ran it on my power supply and its better after a 10 minute test run at 3V.
I just received this same robot today. What does the button on the back of the robot do? You can press it in but I can’t figure out what it’s purpose is.
Answer: After you push in gently and lock in the robot’s arms in its sockets, when you push the button on the back, the arms extend (pop out) again. (Thanks, James!)
Very nice collection are they all boxed or very near mint models! I have about 30 models 3 trucks and 27 cars 1 land rover! They are very hard to find in the wild i may find 1-2 models a year if I'm lucky i don't do greed-bay/ebay as stuffs silly prices on there usually but that's one very nice collection you got there and as you know spot-on have got to be the most expensive and rare British die-cast ever made! The norev reissues are nice I got 2 austin Healey rover sd1 and even reissues are as rare as the originals 😎
I got one of those for Xmas in 1969, I think it was. I think my father bought it because it was named after him. The damned thing had a laugh track that sounded as if it was recorded in the deepest pits of hell.
Hey could you make a video about how to fix Chief robotman? Because my robot doesn't work and the gear keeps spinning and not spinning so could you do that???
Make sure you use cheap lightweight poundshop batteries, the heavier alkaline ones can strain the lifting mechanism and possibly break the gears inside.
