I remember watching this on video back in the early 90’s and thinking what in the actual fu@& am I watching….and that was before the killer tree showed up 😂
You can call this move good. You can call it bad. But one cannot be denied. It is the atmosphere. This movie always takes me to a small town in America in the 80s. The book is also great!
I was working at the Theater when this came out and saw it opening night. Even though it’s completely different than the novel, I really love this movie. Great practical effects, soundtrack/score and the cast, especially Keith Gordon, Harry Dean Stanton and the MVP Robert Prosky….he is awesome. Great video and review Sean👍
@@mr.danandhorror4230 Thank you! I have that one too. It almost made the Halloween Fifteen. I took it out in favor of this one. I’ll be watching it soon!
Great review Sean - this was definitely scary as a kid and obviously more goofy now but I’ll definitely watch it again for Jaekyl, Prine, and Christopher George.
This is my favorite jaws ripoff ever. I saw it at the drive-in when I was a kid and thought it was terrifying. I watched it as an adult and thought it was hilarious. Beat For beat this is Jaws in a forest with a bear.
It is a tough one, especially if you've dealt with the death of a loved one recently. Hey, I don't feel so alone for not seeing Lost Boys yet! Thank you and thanks for watching!
I really enjoy the movie. Not sure why the main character was written to be a humorless person. I understand there are people who really get into their work and pretty much ignore everyone around them. Why did he even bother to marry if his work took him to far away locations. I wasn't crazy about a former lover trying to move in on the wife. I mean the wife was feeling lonely but to try to move in was a dick move. Plus, in IRL, the former suiter was almost twice the wife's age, so that seemed a little pervy. Couldn't the studio find a much younger person? The makeup doesn't really hide his face, so it's easy to tell who the werewolf is.
Had I seen this before The Wolf Man, I probably would have enjoyed it more. That’s not the movie’s fault. I just didn’t like the way the main character was written. But I still think it’s worth seeing. And I didn’t think there was much of an age difference between the wife and the other guy. People always seemed older back then. So it’s hard to tell though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Fantastic Movie! Ripper threatens to steal the show - he always did! Still makes great Halloween /October viewing I agree. How about Yvonne Romaine as Oliver Reed’s love interest? 👀
I agree with you Sean, I have that box set that has all the sequels and orginal films to all the Universal monster movies! Great set, it's a fun movie, these were usually an hr and ten minutes most times, so not a lot of time lost.
Thank you, Mike. In my heart, I love all of the Universal Monster movies at some level. This one just doesn't rank near the top compared to some of the others. And, true, they're never very long.
You in america are so lucky to have access to all of those old movies. It is extremly hard to get those in physical copie where I live. Same with digital.
Kind of enjoyed it the first time but years later I ordered the same Blu ray and barely got through it. The Cornish setting was kind of interesting and Hazel Court is always a treat but I agree it makes no sense.
Love these old movie reviews but bummed that this wasnt very good....sometimes these films do misfire. I am a big fan of Iron Eagle that Furie directed
Tesla is an interesting one, it's got a bit of a unique narrative style and was quite different than I expected but I thought there was something quite special about it. That said, because it's a bit unusual it doesn't seem to be universally enjoyed. Oh The Informer.... the book that was based on was SO GOOD, but I felt the film was only okay. It's a decent thriller but didn't have the complexity of the book. oooooooooooo I did gasp when you said you hadn't seen The Lost Boys. I can't quite... that's like... wha? Near Dark is a great film, I saw that way later. I wonder how you will feel about Lost Boys seeing it now. I hope you get something from it :) With all the westerns in the haul, if you are looking for non traditional recommendations I would highly recommend The Guard with Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. It's not a western per se as it's black comedy... and it's Irish, but for some reason it's got the vibe of a western. Also has Liam Cunningham & Mark Strong it it. So good. Happy October btw!! 🎃
Thanks, Shannon! That's actually the first actually opinion I've read about Tesla. I'm fascinated by the man and his inventions and was just curious how they'd depict him in the movie. Yeah, I'm afraid a lot of 80s classics have slipped through my fingers. I'm trying to fix that. I hope I get something from The Lost Boys too. I'll put The Guard on my list. It sounds interesting. Thanks so much!
Some nice pickups! I purchased that Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat at Walmart when it came out but still have not watched it. I believe I have those 2 Millcreek 2 disc sets you showed at the beginning of the video. I didn't even know Outland had a blu-ray I just own it on DVD and digital. I have Slap Shot on blu-ray but not the steelbook but I haven't watched it either but a few scenes of the movie. Resident Evil franchise is a guilty pleasure of mine and love Milla Jovovich and own the 4K set.
Thank you! I saw Outland was on sale on the Gruv site but it was sold out, so that prompted me to go over to eBay and grab it. I can never have too many guilty pleasure movies in my collection, so Resident Evil will fit in nicely. Thanks for watching!
Great pickups 🛻 Sean!! Lots of great recommendations from Jim, I’ll get through like 10 minutes and start looking for his recommendations on eBay or Amazon…lol. Outland is a great film (got it on dvd) some really good stuff and I haven’t seen The Enforcer yet lol
