Pre pandemic both those sandwiches were about 5 dollars cheaper, meat prices more than doubled in the US. Still, you are right to be shocked lol. There was actually an interview with Manny's owner where he discusses how hard it was to raise the prices, but how, "Chicago can't afford more than a 20 dollar sandwich." Katz's deli in Manhattan sells a comparable sandwich close to 30 dollars, which I think is what he was referring to. Also good call going to the original Al's on Taylor.
You are possibly the most "normal" and relatable travel RU-vidrs I have seen, I appreciate your perspective. Also, there is actually a pretty large Lithuanian population in Chicago, maybe the largest in the US. There are a lot of historically Lithuanian Catholic Churches and the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture. There's even a resort area in Indiana close to Chicago nicknamed the "Lithuanian Riviera" due to how many Lithuanian Chicagoans have vacation homes there. Cheers! you must have taken the old road into Lockhart. The toll road there is the fastest in the US with a posted speed limit of 85 MPH (137 KM)! Since Texans consider that to be a suggestion, you will get run down if you do ONLY 85! Too bad you missed that. There are numerous BBQs in Lockhart that are amazing. It is the BBQ capitl of Texas
