Hmmm, I think for someone with no experience in using film they would come away with the idea that digital is superior in every way. You are not demonstrating like for like, you are demonstrating a sensor versus film but implying that it is camera versus camera. What you are really demonstrating is how technology has advanced. I can assure you that any knowledgeable film photographer could choose a film AND DEVELOPER combination that would equal if not surpass the Fuji X10. It is an interesting exercise but not a valid comparison. I shoot with 3 different digitals (Fuji, Canon, Sony) and love them all. I also shoot 35 mm and medium format (Canon, Minolta, Zorki, Fed, Bronica, Mamiya, Pentax) and love them equally. A quality B&W film stock in say Spur Acurol N would show what film quality is really all about.

Thanks for watching and commenting Ken, I really appreciate it 👍🏻 As a pro photographer since 1984 I’ve shot a lot of film professionally so I know only to well that I could have chosen a film stock , chemistry and camera combination that would have made the images look indistinguishable from digital. But alas, I think it would have been a pretty dull RU-vid film had they looked the same. I purposefully chose two cheap vintage cameras, and tried to make them look as different as possible for a bit of fun. After all, Master Photographers like Bill Brandt loved to see the grain, and as the great man said “Photography is not a sport, there are no rules”. If you like grain (like me) they enjoy it, if you like super fine, then enjoy that too. There’s room for everyone 😁 Thanks again for watching 👏👏👏

I think if you use a good quality optical UV or protective filter ,that I think should be multi coated for better light transmission , then they should make very little if any noticeable difference in image quality. I use them on all my lenses for years and my photos look sharp and rich to me. They are economical insurance and gives me peace of mind for my lenses and I'm not distracted by trying to be especially careful.

@rileyphotos My latest setup is to connect the handstrap to a peak design backplate that is part of a clip to connect the camera to a backpack. The handstrap is only for preventing a fall and this way it is not in the way as it used to be connecting it to the top of the camera. The backpack clip helps me to haul the camera and lens and be able to get it quick enough. (It works for me). (Of course too expensive for what it is )

Thanks for sharing Duane. You make a good point. Portraiture is not for everyone. For people a little more reserved, particularly with strangers, it’s not the natural choice. Personally, I love portraying people, but I understand that other photographers get the same kick from more independent photographic disciplines. Luckily, we don’t all like the same thing, and that’s what makes photography so eclectic. Great to hear from you as always Duane, I’m glad to hear you’re well and enjoying your photography. You guys look about my age. Must have used a lot of Velvia too! This lens is the only thing I was missing in my X-T5 system from my film days...12mm equiv. SO glad Fuji provided this solution for those of us who adopted the 10-24 immediately and then wouldn't go for the 8-16 due to size weight and focal length overlap. This will go on my other body with the 10-24 on the other for most travel work. If they really make an X-E5, the 8mm will never leave that camera! I saw one idiot complaining that it wasn't image stabilized. I hope they don't let them buy ANY more lenses. They don't deserve them.

@rileyphotos 22 дня назад
You’re right, humans are interfering which is very sad. They are interfering with their natural home. Palm oil production has meant their home environment has been destroyed so quickly that they are now one of the most critically endangered species on the planet. Breeding programs like this are vital in preventing extinction while we persuade the citizens of the world not to buy palm oil. In an ideal world it would be fantastic not to need human intervention to help save species, but sadly, it’s not an ideal world. If anyone wants to help these beautiful animals, check the ingredients list on the cans and bottles in your food cupboard and if any say palm oil, next time you’re food shopping, choose an alternative that doesn’t use it. These are beautiful apes. Let’s give them their rightful home back.

Thank you for your comments. There was obviously a fair amount of post processing but only using traditional darkroom techniques, that is to say, the were take on an iPhone as regular colour photos. Then in Photoshop, they were de-saturated to black and white, brightness and contrast adjusted and the dodge and burn tools used to heighten and darken areas. No ai and no cloning or cut and paste. Well... I'm a beginner, so not really confident about my own opinion... but anyway, from my research and experience I kind of concluded that it is a myth that UV-Filters do NOT have an influence on the picture. That's why I always use protector "only" filters (from Hoya in my case) for protecting the lens, this should really just be "clear glass" with only priority to let through the light without influencing it at all. Plus a bit antistatic and anti-dust surface as a bonus. With these filters, I can't see a difference between pictures shot with or without filter. But my eyesight isn't the best anyway, that could also be the reason. 🙂
@rileyphotos
@rileyphotos Месяц назад
Hi Andreas, beginner or not, your opinion is as valuable as anyone else’s so welcome to the channel and thank you for commenting. You will find that photography attracts a lot of people who have an opinion on pretty much everything, and I love that. With regards to your research, you found people telling us that UV filters effect too much, and now the filter companies want to sell us their latest and greatest product that effects nothing, it’s just colourless glass. Well , I take it the new filter, being just glass, it’s extremely cheap, as there is no technology in it? What, it’s more expensive than the UV filter? That’s unbelievable. This from filter companies selling us UV filters since the 80’s telling us they didn’t adversely alter anything but protected our investment in a new lens. It’s marketing gone mad, but hey, if anyone wants to spend their hard earned cash on what is effectively just plain glass, for the price of a coated lens, then good luck to them. I still think it’s as simple as either use a filter or don’t. But that’s just my old school opinion. Thanks again for commenting and watching I really appreciate it 👍🏻

@rileyphotos Месяц назад
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting. I’ve had a few comments on the corrected version spotting different colours and hues, and I think that comes down to the fact that no two screens are the same. Even different phone brands have different hues to their screen. Two monitors side by side will look different. And then their is the question as to the colour temperature in the room with the monitor, sunlight, tungsten, fluorescent, it will all change the hue of the viewed image. All that I can say for sure is that it looked correct on my screen in my room at point of editing, but everyone viewing the video on their own s screen/phone/tv will have a different experience. It would be great to have someone come up with a system ti standardise screens, like a website that you could go to to auto balance your screen. I wonder if that is doable??

Many photographers nowadays are just newbies or never understood photography in the first place. I believe learning and skills development should be at the top of the list. I fell into the « drooling over the camera body » trap myself. I totally agree that lenses choice is up there too. High resolution sensor does not mean high resolution images. If the image touching the sensor is out of focus because of user error, you’ll simply have more pixels depicting that error. The same happens if a poor quality lens sends a soft image to this high resolution sensor. Some older retired folks have enough money to buy a very high end camera but do not know what to do with… I know because that could be me…

The white borders are great, but the biggest problem I have observed is getting a consistent 1/4", 1/2", or 1" border on any print. The printer drivers from Canon, at least when I was using the Canon plug-ins for my Pixma Pro 100, could not do this. It was a consistent kludge. I am reluctant to buy another photo printer at 1000-2000 dollars and get frustrated all over again. If you have any information on how to get a consistent symmetrical border, it would be great. Yes, I have tried photoshop and Lightroom, but it still did not happen. I think uneven borders look awful.
@rileyphotos
@rileyphotos Месяц назад
Oh no, I’m sorry you’re having printer issues Katie. The quick fix is to crop your image in photoshop to the exact dimensions of the paper you are printing on but with a white border around the edge. Use the increase canvas size option not image size. Then on the printer choose the print to edge option. It will print the image to the edge, the border you have put in will be a constant size, and the image will have been cropped to fit the paper. That should work better than asking the printer to do the border. Let me know how you get on. Hope that helps

35mm is garbage. Every video i see comparing 35mm film to digital, the digital is way better. And your using a digital camera with a 2/3" (8.8mmx6.6mm) sensor which is around 4x smaller than the 35mm frame. So the film should have the advantage here.
