Right nearby, so I've seen this ship getting worked on for months already. (Much to the chagrin of the "Shipyards" residential project nearby, who discovered after purchasing that the area does actually host a shipyard.) It always just seems like they are there forever, but the work does get done and then something else replaces it in the same space. At 0:50, you can see next to it one of the BC Ferries (being worked on too/next?). To the immediate east of this yard, past those trains is a huge grain elevator facility. About 2-3 km west of this facility is the other Seaspan one in North Vancouver, where they just did a naming & launch of some other Canadian Coast guard vessel Naalak Nappaaluk, and they also do navy projects there too.

Likely. It is not unusual for ships to get a major refit or two in their service life.

How come I takes so long to build? Time to get the rag out of your ass . It shouldn’t take more than a year from start to finish to build these ships with todays ship building technology. We made ships both merchant and warships in a few months in WW2, and didn’t have the technology back then like we have today.
@brianmutcher9585
@brianmutcher9585 Месяц назад
Should buy 5 of these but extend the length by one or two hundred feet and add an air search radar and vls sea sparrow for self defence.

Get he rag out out out of your ass Canadian ship builders. Why does it take you so long to build anything, while China Korea and Germany can turn out building ships like sausages. Next time contract it out to the Germans or Koreans, they build better ships in a faster time for much less than these entitled Canadian-ship builders who are always over budget and behind schedule who do sub standard work and are doing nothing but wasting government money and milking that government cash cow . If BC ferries would not build a ship in Canadian shipyards because of the poor quality and behind schedule and over budget like the fast catamaran ferries in the 19990’s and would sooner get ships built in Romania , you know their is a problem with Canadian shipyards. But then Canadian businesses are no longer good at quality and innovation and technology, like Europeans , Koreans or Japanese .

What a joke. Probably gonna be like the Franklin's, full of shit welds, half done and in need of repairs. Seaspan is milking the government for all it's worth and it makes all the trades people look bad by blaming them that it took so long. And the careen is probably gonna sink and never come up soon. More government had outs that seaspan is looking for.

Frankly, these new JSSs are just glorified AORs given that they’re based on the Berlin Class AOR. The project to replace the old AORs began way back in 2014 - ten years ago! The RN needed new AORs at the same time, but decided it was more cost efficient to build them in South Korea; the Tide Class. What they got were 37,000 ton ships, built at $237.5 Million per ship (no cost overruns) and although delivered a few months late, all four are now in commission and have been serving the RN for several years now. Our Berlins are about half the size at 20,240 tons, will likely not be in commission until 2030 (16 years after starting the process) and at the last estimate were going to cost $2.1 Billion per ship, though the cost is likely far higher now in 2024. Short of having gold-plated bulkheads and crystal chandeliers in the messes, how can this enormous cost be justified in ANY way? That’s essentially EIGHTEEN TIMES more expensive than what the British are paying (taking in account cost and displacement), just to build them in Canada. Norway saw how inexpensive the Tides were and bought one for their own Navy for only $250 Million, and the RNZN had one built with many specialisations to tailor it to their fleet - and it still came in under $300 Million. Is it just me, or is our government - every federal government, whether conservative or liberal - insane? They've been trying to "revitalise" the Canadian shipbuilding industry for close on forty years. But who in their right mind would pay ten times as much for a vessel built in Canada, that takes three times as long to build? Only our government. The Canadian shipbuilding industry is a corpse that only has a pulse because of the enormously expensive life support that keeps being pumped into it - at taxpayer expense. It’s an utterly outrageous waste of tax dollars, yet very few Canadians seem to be aware of it - or care.

it takes 15-20 years for any Procurements that is just the way it is , too much Red Tape...
@NCMA29
@NCMA29 Месяц назад
@@tw8060 That's only true for Canada. The question is: WHY? And that's not even address the enormous waste of public funds. The new Type 26 River Class will cost many times the true price to build them, since the government insists on building them in Canada. Since they will only employ a total of 15,000 estimated jobs (a TINY number), we could give each and every employee $1 Million as compensation for not getting the job to have them built in Scotland (you know, that paragon of ship-building efficiency) and we'd still save $35 BILLION! And that's using the old figures that are now bloated by an additional estimate of $10 Billion more to build the destroyers. So make that a saving of $45 Billion today. And Canadians just roll over and go, "oh well, what can ya do? The government always wastes our tax dollars." In any other country there would be riots in the streets at such staggering waste.

In WW2 the only offer were the Corvettes. Then the Tribal Class which only a few were built in Canada. All of our Warships and Bulk Carriers are out sourced. The support ships are gone and so is the pride in a Navy that needs more to Protect Us.

What a "Cluster FuK" !!! Three years delayed and massive cost overruns !!! 💰💰💰💰 They could of had South Korea build three Bigger and better "Tide" Class AORs for less money and all would be built now !! 🤔 Canada's Leftist Government over the many years had destroyed and screwed up all things in our military !!! 👎
