Nothing wrong with a head rush though! I truly believe that with some time spent tweaking and the right impulse responses, any of the modelers on the market these days can sound great! It’s just all about getting to know your tools!
Haven't finished watching so apologies if this is answered, but any reason why you don't just put the clean amp next to the distortion amp and switch them on/off with scenes? Feel like that would have the same effect, plus you'd get a lane back if you wanted
Totally could do that, it was more so about space on the first lane, and then it also allows me to run different fx pre amp block if I wanted too which I actually did in this preset! But on my main presets, I absolutely could do exactly like you said, it was more about leaving room for flexibility!
Hey thanks I appreciate you taking the time to check them out! And honestly, the Axe FX 3 is great! I considered moving us over to them before I made the decision to go QC. The Axe 3 sounds great and has limitless possibilities, honestly just about all of the modelers these days can sound incredible with the right amount of elbow grease and the right IR. I think it really comes down to form factor and user friendliness these days and I think the QC wins in those two departments for what I was looking for for my band!
Very helpful video on preset building Chris! Thanks! Question RE live use: Do you run cabs on stage? If so, what power amp do you use? I always seem to get a thin uninspiring sound / tone when in the live room with a full band. Have tried the Powerstage 700, Pedal Baby 100 and the power section of a couple valve heads, but same result. Any insight(s)? Please keep the QC vids coming :D
Hey! We have been running a silent stage since we came back in 2019, so no cabs anymore! But back in my Texas In July days I was running my Axe Fx 2 through a cab and direct to front of house. Back then I was using just the tiny little Electro Harmonix 44 Magnum pedal sized power amp and it got the job done. My first question when it comes to it sounding weak is do you have the cab block/IR block bypassed when running into the cab? Running the IR into the cab can definitely lead to the sounding being weak because its getting double the filtering!
I’m not 100% certain on this, I’d have to ask BTPA since they built the racks for us, but I’m pretty certain they removed the screws that hold on the bottom plate of the QC, then screws them back in through the shelf so that they’re locked in place!
Hey Chris! Love the Quad Cortex content even though I'm still stuck with my Axe Fx :D Did you export the "Take it to the grave" Ir with or without the master eq on? Or have you got any post processing going in your DAW? I can't get it to sit as nicely in the mix to be honest. Best regards!
Hey! I exported it without the master eq on! I wanted a more neutral pallet to sculpt from for our FOH engineer! I dont use this preset for tracking, this is my live preset! Our engineer is certainly doing some EQ'ing and Compression on his end out front to make everything sit together nicely!
Thanks Chris, loved this. Even as a hardcore Fractal AXE3 user this is super interesting and sounds sick. I definitely use the same principles you apply here. Not sure if this is possible in the QC but Fractal makes a few things a bit easier with their Channels regarding block management Blocks (like delay and pitch) can have different "channels" in them. So Channel A: Digital delay /w settings X. Channel B: Analog delay /w settings Y I use Channel A in scene 1 and Channel B in scene 2. It stays the same block. You can switch delays within the same block within the same preset using scenes or midi. But everything in the QC sounds great as it is, just a different workflow I guess! :) thx again! keep this coming please
Yeah the channels feature is something I hope they implement into the QC in the future, thats a SUPER useful feature for designing more complex presets in a cleaner fashion for sure!
I REALLY hope seamless preset switching comes to QC soon, for now switching scenes is working just fine but man does seamless presets open up the world of possibilities!
Killer song, killer album, killer preset🔥 Got some cool captures that people seem to like, more then welcome to check them out. neuraldsp.com/cloud/u/ItheBastardKing
Man, this is such a cool preset. It was honestly the most fun just sitting here watching you go through things and building mine alongside you. Looking forward to the next QC video
Amazing content! So on the ambient clean V2 sound, the delay and the comp are "in front of the amp" and not "in he fx loop" or in parallel? i am a kemper guy but love any kind of new routing, signal chain ideas. Keep them coming.
Yeah in this set up those are before the amp! Delay before amp has a very specific characteristic because the delays are getting the same distortion characteristics from the amp that the direct guitar signal is! The compressor follows the delay then to make repeats equal volume with the direct signal to give it that endless repetition feel!
@@ChrisDavisTGI very nice! I will definitely try it out on my next clean, dotted 8th patch. I was always putting the time based FX After the amp. Like the simplicity of the QC. Thanks Chris;
Thank you for doing this breakdown! This is extremely helpful for us to program our QC’s! Now to figure out MIDI automation with the Behringer X32 IEM rig, and Logic Pro X 🤔
Check out some pedalboard amplifiers like the Seymoure Duncan power stage, it's really expensive though😅. But I've heard that the Harley Benton one works great
Are you running it through a power amp of some sort? The Quad Cortex isn’t made to play through a cabinet by itself, it needs a power amp of some sort to power the cab OR a powered speaker of some sort! Electro Harmonix Magnum 44 is an affordable pedal sized power amp I used for a long time!
So uncoordinated on the tap dancing, couldn’t even spell it right 😂 Sick video though, always interesting seeing how other people build presets. I’d have done this completely differently (and over complicated it) Thanks Chris the RU-vidr. (Archetype Chris when?)
Hey thanks for checking it out! I LOVE the iConnectivity stuff, adding a MioXL into the rig with the v2 build here in the next few weeks and eventually upgrading the PA12 to a PA1U in the near future hopefully!
@@ChrisDavisTGI Sounds like only better things from here. We appreciate the support and love. Id you ever need any assistance in setup make sure to hit us up in support. I'll get you through there. Hope all the summer festivals and shows are going great!
Congrats! My first guitar was an ESP Eclipse E-II and while not a custom, still a fantastic guitar years later. Blows Gibson quality away. I want a custom shop ESP once can fund one. Suhr and Mayones also make killer guitars.
@@ChrisDavisTGI agree 100% and the ESP Original customs are great option if one does not want to wait 3-4 years for a total custom build. Rusty Arrow ESP Original and Andromeda look awesome!
With the tripp lite ups, are you still plugging into the venue's power sorce or just running off of the battery. If it's just the battery, how long does it last before needing to be recharged?
It’s plugged into house power so it’s always keeping the battery charged, but the power hitting the gear is being drawn from the battery. It’s not meant to last a long time if the power drops out, just meant to last long enough to either quickly remedy the issue or safely power everything down!
