There will be quite a bit of by-pass around the inlet tube, at the top of the motor housing, when the sponge chamber gets clogged. Just like the old Aquaclears, you will notice the water spilling out at the top of the well above the pump motor around the area of the u-tube.
the ac110 doesn't have it set up that way. it's completely open :D ...but you could leave the carbon out and put bio media on both sides of this one :)
This is just a hobby along with my tanks. I'm not trying to make a living out of RU-vid, so I use my phone. Some people like the information I provide and how I provide it, and others like yourself don't. It's all good. There are other videos out on RU-vid about this filter, and I'm sure you will be more happier with their sound. I hope you find what you are looking for.
@@darrensaquaticsworldCan get a clip on mic that works with your phone for like $15. If you could be heard better the information will reach more people
you could always remove the plastic basket i suppose and put your sponges and bio media in there. i think the purpose of the basket is to just make it easier to pull it out during maintenance.
IMO Aquaclear filters are the best.More customization if you want.Tidal cannot be run on aquaterrariums or paludariums. The pump on the tidal should have been placed lower to AVOID the Horrible grinding noise. You get more media with aquaclear. The new intake sponges improvement is a nice plus.I have used aquaclear since the 1980 s.Nevet had that NOT restart after power outage with the 70 and 110 models. For my money Aquaclear wins.
Just remove the carbon/white fine filter and dispose of it when clogged. You don't need it, and they are hard to come by in the UK. Just keep the bio media and the black thick sponge. If you want some water polishing done, you can buy filter floss and put a little if that in. The more you put in the quicker it will clog and slow down, so it's more cleaning. There's no set time scale for cleaning. If it's slowed right down take the sponge out squeeze in old tank water to clean and replace. I wouldn't clean with plain tape water.
Not many people keep the same tank for 10 years without upgrading or breaking it down to change it up a bit. I'm not against water changes, I just now have a better understanding of why we do them.
Mate I know you did this 5 years ago but I am making the same decision now and I have to go GHL like you said it’s not a toy the power bars are made for my country. You also said there was a lot of programming but that said once it’s done that’s it so it GHL for me Thanks for the video
Can someone modify the "exhaust" pipe so it goes straight from the cannister into the tank instead of the 90 degree bend it has now? I am asking because I am thinking if it is possible to hang this on the side of my aquarium (because of lack of space in the back) so I can install my light's legs between the "intake" and "exhaust" pipes of the filter. I have the Dennerle 70L tank with the Chihiros AII501 light, that clips on the sides of the tank.
Hi! ('waves from Scotland' 👋) - I've been considering this filter so super appreciate a real first impressions vid. Thanks for sharing! Are you gonna do a follow up to give your view on it once its set up/in use? 👍
Hi, I may do one in the future as i need to do an update on my new tank setups. I think it's a decent filter and is quite discrete in the aquarium, with only a small outlet and inlet on show which I like. To clean it is the same as a canister filter to take apart, so a hang on the back would have easier maintenance wise. Oase also do a small external filter, which is a similar price. If you were looking for a hang on the back filter, I would go for a Seachem Tidal.
How did this work? I got a 3 gallon cylinder tank and I want a hob cause I've had the most success with them, but I don't want a chungus or something super loud.
I watched alot of these videos of people who dont do water changes and I think there are 2 things that need to happen for one to not have to do water changes. The first is having a refugium to remove nitrates and phosphates. The second is dosing trace elements to reintroduce any absorbed by the corals.
I didn't have a refugium, but you are right about them. The thing is, for them to be fully functioning, they need to be about 30% of the total tank size.
Water changes are fine but they must be 5-10% max per week, I control my nutrients by controlling levels of feeding and how much I skim, all for reef is a good product but water changes just refresh things and provide things are are not in one solution suplimemts, salt has an absolute balance of everything so feeding 5-10% of fresh water in a week helps keep things in check I check levels weekly and dose nutrients if I need to, as long as your daily weekly tank care routine is the same stability will be met regardless of what that stability is
@@darrensaquaticsworld thanks, I’ve had a 4 year break from the hobby and I’m looking at getting back into it. I’m looking at methods that require no water changes. Would you recommend ATI pro?
@Jon Sleight Yeah, it has been fine for me. Not the easiest to get in the UK, and it will slowly raise your salinity over time, so you will need to keep an eye on it. I think you could use most methods and do zero water changes as long as the elements are being replaced. What I would say is zero water changes on a brand new tank could get really messy real quick, but you never know you might get lucky with it.
Great Video, the apex isn't geared up for the UK, I'm using red sea reef beat app amazing lights, doser, reefmat, reewave. But also using the reeffactory thermo view and the temp controller now. I like the board got same one, I had seen these boards in ikea had the same idea but to lazy to do it now. Great 👍 video well explained.
I like the look of the reefmat and their doser. I probably will get another doser at some stage and will probably be Red Sea or the Reef Factory doser.
@@darrensaquaticsworld most likely the reeffactory doser is Great not used it. The reef doser 4 redsea is brilliant. Reefmat also so good did have one issue the first motor seized but they replaced it and all working fine
My tank started to use quite a lot of elements and the weekly water changes could hardly keep up. The corals didn't like the swings, so I started dosing all-for-reef. It has been 2 months since my last water change, since my nutrients are low and dosing takes care of the rest. I like the hobby much more with less water changes. I have a 20 gallon nano tank now, but this d-d 1200 is on my wish list.
I think as long as everything is stable and inline with where it should be doing no water changes is fine. Keep an eye on Salinity though as this can slowly ruse over time due to dosing.
I haven’t done a water change in almost 1 year. I swear by having a packed refugium ! My nitrates are zero, I dose once a week (alk, calc, mag) I use nyc tap water for fresh water top off. I have acros, zoas, torches, hammers, Kenya trees, Xenia, Duncan’s.. moray eel, clowns, anthias, damsels and my tank is thriving. When I was doing constant water changes I was losing a lot of coral and fish! Once I stopped everything started to thrive and flourish … I have chaeto growing and mangrove plants in my sump, I have a lot of rock and bio balls/brick down there and I truly truly believe that because I have a lot of life down in the sump I am able to break down all ammonia/nitrates.
Clean tank you got there. My favorite part is that you don't have 150 frags closely spaced next to one another. Looks really natural, props on your patience man. 👌
It can work, unfortuntly I think it's the luck of the draw as to how it will go once you start to remove the water changes ect. I do think the tank needs to be up and running for some time though before stopping them.
@@darrensaquaticsworld only soft and LPS maybe a very beginner SPS eventually but have it directly under a prime does that sound ok thanks for replying on a old video legend
They are a good piece of kit but I think we can really over complicate things in this hobby. I think the Apex kinda adds to that. It can fully automate your system but it's wether you need to or not. My tank literally gets no love from me at the minute and it's the most settled it's ever been.
Hello!I just bought a new fish tank (112litres) and the JBL Cristal Profi i80 greenline internal filter. The problem is that I am a little confused.I understand that I need to use JBL Filter Start to activate the bacterias of the filter, but what else is mandatory for my aquarium? Like basic conditionners? I mention that it will be a planted tank. Thank you!
Hi, you need to find some videos on how to setup a new aquarium, there are loads of ways and products to help cycle your aquarium and loads of water treatment products. Theres to much to explain via a simple mesage im afraid.
