I just went to Scudiero's during my vacation in Chicagoland, on July 23, 2022, awesome pizza, nice place, I remember seeing the old Scudiero's sign as I passed by on Lake Street back in the 90's when I visited my godparents and cousins who used to live in Melrose Park. I'm planning to return in December, God willing.
and here I type again on August 5, 2024, yep, went there again, pepperoni pizza and two cans of Mountain Dew, I ❤ Melrose Park, brings back memories. I remember seeing the Come Back Inn Pub that once stood on Lake Street. Long gone now.
About 1969, me and the boys were hanging out at the Feast. Another crew told us they were going to beat the hell out of some hippies that were walking around. They pointed out the hippies. Holy cow! We told them to leave those guys alone. It was the band Spirit (they did "Fresh Garbage").
WE ALWAYS WENT THERE AND I ALWAYS CRITICISED THE VENDORS THAT SOLD ITALIAN ICE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AUTHENTIC ITALIAN ICE LIKE AT MARIO'S ON TAYLOR STREET IN CHICAGO. THE VENDORS WERE SELLING SHERBET AS ITALIAN ICE. I TOLD THEM THAT ITALIAN ICE IS NON DAIRY AND SHERBET WAS DAIRY. I COULD NOT FIND A VENFOR THAT SOLD AUTHENTIC ITALIAN ICE!!!!
I used to frequent Melrose Park, back in the 80's and through the early 90's. I was a resident there, and surrounding suburbs Maywood & Stone Park. I have cousins who used to live there, near Broadway and Main.
Omg, I used to have a crush on you when I was a little girl! My grandma used to send me there weekly to get bread and Italian supplies. Vanessa. Granddaughter of Rose Calvi and Mary Pecora.
Hi Tony, I'm going to be presenting on the Melrose Park Feast in October in Houston at an Italian American conference. I'd love to include a few minutes from this video. Who do I need to ask for permission to show it?
what a great town Melrose Park was to grow up in, and this even was so awesome. You waited for the Feast like you did for Christmas. It still is celebrated but nothing like it once was, except for on Sunday when our Lady is taken from the church and marched through a small portion of town.
i remember this as a young boy its not the same anymore i went every year my mom is sicilian,im only half but im still sicilian thanks for the video it brings back many wonderful memories
I grew up down the block from Scudiero’s. Great breads and great food. They will make you feel at home. I grew up with Tony and Aldo, they are the best. What a great family. Love you guys. From the Lugo family.
Brings back my childhood. I used to live a couple blocks away from the Italian Bakery and my father would give me a couple of coins and send me off to get him his daily Italian bread (you had to get there before noon if you wanted bread). Of course, that was over 40 years ago. Crust you can rap your knuckles on and insides as soft as heaven. I've lived in a few states and I've looked for bread this good. Can't find it. I'm going back there soon just for the bread.
