During his short life, Charlie Parker changed the course of music. Like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, he was a pioneering composer and improviser who ushered in a new era of jazz and influenced subsequent generations of musicians, writers and artists. Bursting with fresh ideas and virtuosity, Parker’s solos and compositions, including “Orinthology”, “All The Thing You Are”, and “Scrapple From The Apple”, have inspired musicians and composers across a broad spectrum of music.
Parker’s brilliance and charisma continues to inspire dancers, poets, writers, filmmakers, visual artists and other kindred musical spirits sampling his music, confirming that BIRD LIVES!
Herbie Hancock, so good to see you are doing well!!! Attended a lecture by you at Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa in about 1972 or so. There was a young jazz purist whose name I can't recall who argued with you about the direction of jazz as a genre. He was a young prodigy as well. Never heard where he ended up. I will have to ask a friend of mine who you may know, the bass player Hill Greene if he has any idea. It was an honor to hear you speak and play. Be well sir!!!
Now, that's the coolest thing I ever saw a president do...ever. yeah man. If you listen to bird, know birdman, and acknowledge him, even if strategic, your still in my cool book.
Thanks for sharing! If you have a second, I have posted a new song of mine on my channel. As a fellow music fan, I'd love if you'd check it out. I hope you like it :)
Hey, y'all! If you're talking about Charlie Parker and using his full moniker, it's Charlie 'Yardbird' Parker. If you're going to be using the more intimate version of his identity then it's just simply 'Bird'. Ya' dig?
Robby, would you be on my RU-vid channel for real rockstars EP.3 🙏. I know it’s a piss in the wind but your one of my favorite guitarists ( not joking ) I just had Marcus who use to play with Dick Dale in the sex wax surfers for ep.1 I’m just trying to pursue my dream and it would mean the world. Not trying to attract followers by any means. If your interested email me guitargrader@gmsil.com if not I respectfully understand.
ty to Our Honorable Mayor Lucas - i missed the gathering at Bird's resting place today where he lies with his Mother at Lincoln Cemetery on Blue(s) Ridge Blvd. north of Truman Rd., ...but stopped by right after work. The fine caretaker, along with his dog, were there to greet me and tell me all about it (quite the group). i played-back his Yardbird Suite, which he wrote after being beaten by police, for, as we KNOW, it really DOES "matter", and Always WILL, as will Charles.😷🙏
