I've had both GERD and LPR symptoms for the last 8 years. I developed them in my early 40s, brought on by the stress of a new job I had taken on. As someone who suffered from LPR for at least 2 years, the DR is spot on. The worst symptom I had was coughing after a meal of any size. I chew sugarless gum (no minty stuff) with sodium carbonate as an ingredient for about 30 minutes. My cough is gone. This is anecdotal, but it does work for me. My voice has never come back yet, but compared to the cough that almost drove me around the bend, it's ok.
I've added a white noise machine to my bedroom a few years ago, it's like a secret weapon, and count by 3s down from 300 inside my head helps stave off rumination.
"Pain" comes and goes, and the throat adapts with time. It's not that bad for me, at least. I felt "pain" for about 2, maybe 3 weeks at the beginning of my symptoms, and then I have been feeling "discomfort" for the last 7 months. There are days when I don't feel a thing and others when it comes back. In general, it's not "painful" after some time but "uncomfortable" since your throat is irritated 24/7. As I speak, it's very bizarre because I have a cold or something like that, so it gets even worse.
