I’m kicking myself in the ass.. I bought a lowbrow custom weld on Hardtail for my 2018 1200 iron . Can’t use stock rotor caliper had to buy a 11.5 rotor because I had to use there caliper bracket which stock does not fit and anchor rod I sent an email asking which caliper and rotor do I have to buy they sent me a link to a 450 doller caliper . I’m sorry TCBros. . But I will say I switched to them bought my oil tank and chain conversion kit from TC . Thanks for this video
I really like this so you did a good job and explaining how these work I have shovelheads but they'll kickstarts only but I do have an old shovelhead that I was gifted and it is a electric start that'll help me if I need to work on it and I have an 88 Evo Softail custom and it's got the old starter like this but the modern relays but now I know how to start it if the relay doesn't work well that's screwdriver thanks again
I’m looking to buy a 1972 but seller says it would go in gear, let out the clutch and it wouldn't move and it also didn't stall. It just stayed running in gear. Anyone know what’s wrong?
Im actually fixing to install the same springer on a 01 dyna super glide so this is helping me alot. Never done one. I might have to figure out spacers since stock came with 19 i have a 21 on it. But I'll figure it out.
Awesome idea for shooting this vid! I am just about to start welding my own pill style and without instructions, I found this video to be invaluable in making that possible. So glad you showed all those details on mounting/welding the tabs- This is a first time build for me! I'm confident now I can do this successfully! All the best to you and your chop!
Hey thanik you, this video will help alot, i have an old shovelhead trike that wont do anything, that wiring video you said your not going to make would help alot too lol
Inside outside micrometer, or just micrometer, or calipers, verniers, vernier caliper are all used interchangeably in every industrial setting I've ever seen. Google micrometer, inside outside, Mike's pop up first, then the traditional outside mikes your talking about.
They definitely do top notch work. And they have packages for twin cams. That might be on my short list, my 96ci blackline has been needing some love lately. And in my opinion the pricing is very fair!
You can add a mechanical advance fairly easily. It should say in the instructions included with the ignition the exact part numbers you need if I remember correctly. If you haven't purchased the ignition yet I believe you can get a pdf of the instructions from dynas website, or even jp cycles if you look the ignition up.
Hi. What kind of test light do you used? Because my test light when I rotate to the end does not light up gradually, but immediately… thank you for the answer)
My test light is a 1056 brake light bulb with some speaker wire taped to it, lol. Yours is probably led, it will light up asap, which is fine. Just rotate until the light changes.
@@DWchopshop ahaha. A suzuki boulevard 650? I had 1 and always thought it would make an amazing bobber. But it had low miles and I sold it for a pretty penny
@@1badombre82 No, this is a 92 Harley sportster 883. I've had a few boulevards in the past. Mine have all been 1100 (I think) and I definitely enjoy them. The hard part about making them q proper bobber or chopper is the shaft drive. That makes it really hard to change frame angles.
Thats it man. The relay keeps the lower amperage systems from getting too hot. Modern electronics you can find these relays about the size of an ice cube or even bult into the keyed ignition.
@@DWchopshop well I think I'm going to order a 716 that's what the lower judge the casebolt is. Half inch for the head to The jug boat on mine. Just in case I need it
Thanks for posting this it helps me a lot I have a 1980 FLH. I plan to give it the once over this winter but I got it only a couple of months ago and have been doing quite a bit to it to make it roadworthy.. which I try and document on my channel.. I'm not much for editing it's just start stop.. it has solid lifters now but the lifters don't even look the same.. the front exhaust looks different.. then the others and so I picked up a conversion type kit from Wheels through Time.. they sell their extra stuff I guess.. I don't know if it's a real conversion it just happens to be lifter blocks and tapets .. I haven't had a shovelhead since the early eighties so this is a good refresher thank you....
I have 12 v going to the coil and when I clip the test light into the trigger side of the coil it lights up immediately. Doesn’t matter what position the dyna ignition is rotated to. Any ideas ? Not getting any spark from the coil.
It's really hard to answer wiring questions without seeing what's going on, but the only thing I can see going on here would be clipping the light to the wrong side of the coil. One side gets 12 volts all the time, the other side gets 12 volts when it fires. The side with a constant 12v has a wire coming from the ignition switch (key)
I have, these don't shrink enough in a household freezer in my experience. You could purchase some dry ice and they would drop in, but it's a bearing race, not the bearing it's self. As long as you don't damage the tapered surface and it seats evenly it will be fine.
There is a relatively inexpensive kit to replace the "elastic primary chain" with a Gates Polychain which needs a torque wrench check every 50,000 miles instead of a new chain and gears every 20,000 miles or less. I've owned two Hardly-Davidsomes, my FIRST and my LAST! "Why do Harley baggers tow trailers? To haul the pieces that fall-off in a 5000 mile trip!"-Harley Repairman
I've never had an issue with a primary chain or belt on stock power applications. Both of my shovelheads still have the original primary chains, I think. I've had to replace the pensioners, but that's about it. This specific sportster has 72,000 miles on it. If you're not a big harley guy thou, I do have a yamaha and a suzuki project coming up eventually. Finish this sporty, then an ironhead, and I'll get into the jap stuff.
I just know found your videos I watched all the videos on hard tailing the sportster, they was a skinny guy building that bike than I started watching this video did you eat that little guy.lol civilian life will do that to you want it.
Pretty Cool DW. I'm curious how it works out. Even if the project turns out to be a failure, at least you did it. I've been building bikes for years. I like what your doing. Keep up the good work.
I'll let you know. The tank holds water just fine. There is no liner in it yet. Waiting for engine parts to come back from machining brfore slapping it all together. And thank you!
@@DWchopshop I didn't think it wasn't gonna work, but you never know till you try. I read an interveiw with Keith Ball from Easyrider magazine years ago who built a lot of custom bikes. He said he could spend 3 days on a project just to toss it in the trash when done. I know the feeling. It comes with the territory. As a friend of mine likes to say, "Welcome to the world of custom motorcycles". Thanks for the reply.
Right! I wasn't sure either but there's only one way to find out. I've done the same thing on a bigger level in industrial situations, didn't see why it wouldn't work on a small tank! And I think it looks a lot better than a plastic tube. Who knows, it might not be a long term thing though. And I agreewith Mr. Ball and your friend, lol. It's hard to stand out in the motorcycle world these days. For every one cool original idea that works there's 15 that got junked!!
@@DWchopshop It's hard to find people that even work on their own bike anymore let alone building them. I thought it was a dying art. It's refreshing to see other people doing it. I started doing it because I was too poor/cheap to buy a nice running motorcycle. It turned into a nice hobby. I'd recommend it to anybody. One thing it taught me is persistance & determination to finish what you start.
Hello, my 1988 Heritage stays cranking even with signal wire from switch disconnected, I have to disconnect the battery to get it to stop, the solenoid is only 2 years old, it just started doing this after a backfire on startup, do you think the new starter clutch I installed because starter wasn’t engaging is bad from backfire or starter clutch fork got bent ?
When something like that happens to be I always start with the last thing it ouched. I would dig into the starter clutch again, check the forks like you mentioned. But your symptoms are similar to what a failing or stuck solenoid might be. could also be worth it to check your handlebar switch to make sure its not sticking.
@@DWchopshopafter tearing it apart and looking at everything I swapped out the starter solenoid with a new Accel one and so far it seems to fix the issue I was having, I also swapped out my Drag Specialities AGM battery too even though it was testing good, it was 8 years old and I figured it was time, the handjebar switch and starter clutch I left alone, sucks I only got 2 years and about. 2,000 miles out if the solenoid that was in there
Hey man I see you installing this on a wide glide front end. I am having issues with the caliper rubbing my spokes on a narrow glide. Any advice? Thanks man
That engine is currently at hammer performance getting gone through. I wasn't worried about something getting in the intake when the heads are getting ported.
