Maybe setting too fast, hard to get a good hookset in their bony mouth but try to let them get a good grab on it before laying into it. Hope it helps, have a blessed one!
I was camping at Santa Rosa Island near Pensacola, where I once lived and I was with my son who made the forth generation who camped there. The first generation just camped on the beech before there was a camp site; talk about roughing it. Any way, my son and I were body surfing with a stranger near by also. Then, I thought I saw a couple of shark fins in the waves and told my son to head back to shore as I and the man tried to identify it and it was three sting rays surfing in the waves having fun. I called my son back out to watch with us. They would swim out to catch a wave and come within a few feet and turn around and swim out again to catch another wave. It was awesome to see this behavior of sting rays just wanting to have fun in the surf, just like us. As a surfer would say, "It was totally gnarly dude!"😃
Im telling you some billionaire could offer me a billion dollars just to float on a surf board out there. My answer would be not a chance in hell would i even consider it. My life is worth more than the risk of being a statistic.
lol, crazy that they came right at you / him. I used to see them a lot close to sunset surfing the shorepound at Indialantic back in the 80s. They always freaked me because I was never QUITE CERTAIN what they were... (because they never came up to me like that - they were always just a little ways away so you could only see the fin)
Would have fracked out if it was me. Then kept trying to tell myself that it doesn't hurt people. (I live in Norther MN, I'm not a sea lover, just an admirer. Would freak out a little if I saw a dolphin like that!)
The moment I saw that little bit of fin I would have stood up on the water and run all the way back to the beach. I wouldn't have even had time to realize it was just a manta ray and not a shark.
First off. This man clearly seen those find come up. I saw it on the first flip and was like “whoa, is that a shark?”. This the type of surfer we hear about on the news and his family is all shook that he got bit by a shark 😩😒. Nah. You saw that fin and kept swimming in that direction. Have some discretion brah. This dude lucky it was a manta and not a shark
