This used to be a quiet place where you could go to enjoy nature and reflect, but as more people like you have advertised it to the world on social media it has become more trafficked and trashed. Someone obviously told you about this place and you got directions, and I can understand you telling a few friends, but why tell everyone on RU-vid? The stream and waterfalls are actually on private property....and during times when lots of people were visiting and leaving trash....I've heard from other locals that the owner was dismayed and considering ways to close it down for everyone. Do you have such a shallow need for pats on the back for being "the man in the know" who discovered a cool place ....that it blinds you from realizing that some places are wonderful and serene because every RU-vidr and his cousin Arnold are not hiking down to the falls (and leaving their trash streamside).
I just bought a 2014 gear up, ditto on it not liking traffic. It likes 65 mph or less. I have put a few 1000 miles on it and love it so far. Great video.
I personally removed all of the graffiti from this waterfall 14 years ago. suddenly there's no such thing as enjoying it on a hot afternoon. People just have to show off on the Internet without a thought for how they're just making it easy for assholes to discover and ruin wonderful spots nobody would have ever told them about otherwise.
Nice riding gear. 🙄 Glad you’re using it, at least. Keep in mind a Ural is happiest at 60 mph. Once you clear 15,000-20,000 klicks the fuel economy typically improves as the engine settles in. That’s been the case for both of my Urals.
A friends of mine used to own that property and it's a wonderful place . If you go upstream on gunning Creek where it crosses Socrates mine road there's an even bigger waterfall. About 30 to 40 ft high.
My Mom's cousin moved to Sacramento a long time ago 25 +years so, if you have ever crossed trails with "Melon" (short for Mary Ellon) then, that is/was my Mom's cousin, only a few million people there -right?
My only issue with this video. There are Brembo brakes on the front wheel brake disc for a purpose. It is to keep you from wearing out the back tire/pads. You are using the front brake sporadically (As seen in the video). Brakes on a bike should work like brakes on a car.....Even force on the front and back at the same time,,,all the time. Being that you have a Ural, excessive force on the front brake, to alleviate back brakes, should not be an issue.....Your braking honestly bothered me.
@@OverlandTravelAdventuresI do. Use both front and rear brakes. I’d also suggest reading the “Yellow Book” which is the manual on how to drive a hack. Lots of good tips and techniques. Happy trails. I’d sell my GSA before I’d part with my Gear Up. There used to be no higher compliment.
I hiked up from the day use area in College for a week long field geology course. Brought the family up it once, had to carry both kids back down lol. I was toast.
Next time you try Blue/Bear Lake and/or Trinchera Peak road, be prepared for a shock. Two winters ago there were high winds estimated at 100mph that brought down about a thousand acres of trees. Everything at Blue Lake Campground was flattened. The Forest Service just recently (Summer of 2023) finished clearing it up. Road from Blue to Bear Lake has been completely blocked, clearing it is still ongoing (Sept '23). Trinchera Road is a disaster, probably won't be open again until late 2024.
I've just bought the nomad kit and it's awesome..a little tip though is have a cheap folding funnel to spray the water back into your water tank until you feel it getting hot.. you can waste a lot of water waiting for it to heat up.. this way all the water gets collected back until it's hot
They'rrrre homophobic - Sydney - 2022 hahahahahaaaaaaa Loved the video! i saw one not long ago and have been thinking about getting one. Great review! I do have a question, what would you look for in purchasing a used one. These are a bit different than the standard motorcycles. How long do these typically last? Do they run a lot of miles throughout their life? How hard is it to take the sidecar off? How does the bike run by itself? 2 Up?
