Bingo old heads fail to realize that cheap modern v6 engines are superior than there old slow v8. V6 penstar 2k with ecm n trans. Lol old heads drop 1k on a carb.
The truck has been sold. Buyer is very happy with it. We offer this swap into any f100, f150 or 1990 and below bronco. We are currently working on a 1968 mustang getting the same swap. Will be starting to drop videos on that in the next week
@ 2:30 "On the left side here we have the spaghetti factory of wires and hoses." So much under the hood of modern cars these days that it takes up so much relestate in an F100 engine bay.😬 I think the fuel injected dual throttle body 482ci FE I built for the same year F100 last year had 6 maybe 8 visible wires. Only 22mpg through a manual 5 speed though. Probably came in a little heavier too. Just a little.....all aluminum FE. I bet this Ecoboost has its thrills somewhere though. Really can't wait to see that at Mecum.
Weight is a huge factor. This truck is about 800-900lbs lighter than the 2.3l ranger. Also this build was not equipped with a cat which results in a surprising mpg increase
Bet it's quicker than the mustang it came out of. These trucks are a good bit lighter. My 1969 f100 ranger short bed with a 351w , me, my wife and a 80lb toolbox tips the truck scales at only 3,753lbs. I weigh 160, wife weighs 150. So, subtract 390lbs from 3,753lbs, that's only 3,363lbs. Not bad for a truck.
I seriously doubt those mpgs. I went through a turbodiesel phase, and a guy on a forum dedicated to Isuzu NPR 3.8l swaps built a truck just like that, T56 6 speed, Thunderbird IRS, and the Isuzu four banger. THE, capital T THE, appeal of this was primarily getting a fullsized truck to 25-28 highway mpg, with maybe some wick turned up, mid 200ish hp. Which is what he achieved. I find it difficult to believe that an older truck, with a presumably worse drag, is making twice the real world mpgs of the donor vehicle, and putting down numbers usually achieved by a sub 150hp four cylinder under 3000lbs. Diesels can run as lean as you could desire, gas engines are stuck with stoichiometric fuel ratios or detonation, so either its way under 320hp, way under 35 mpg, or both.
@@capillarysystem the most ubiquitous diesel are the 77-85 Mercedes Benz 5 and 4 cylinders. However, I've always wanted to have a go at a TDI. If you want to hotrod it and fab/adapt everything, those Isuzu NPR 3.8l have a lot going for them. Like, "a stock headgasket is good for 60psi of boost" going for them.
Love the truck build , it's quality thanks. I've owned chevy, Ford, dodge.......... Trucks are the coolest, don't make the brand name argument, build what you like and drive it, they're all cool. You did an excellent job !!
I really want to do the ecoboost swap into a 70's LTD sedan. I know it won't be fast, but it should move about as good as it did from the factory, with much better mpg and would make a hell of a daily.
Good use of a motor of low desirability. Making a MPG street build is unique. Smart to use the smaller 4 cylinder. Not every truck needs to be 4 MPG with a 600 HP big block. And 4 cylinder mustangs sort of started the whole boosted 4 cylinder thing in a way.
@PonkyKong so is the buick gnx, pontiac firebird, monza spider and many other GM vehicles all the way down to the early 60s. But the supercharged and turbo charged cobalt ss engine was one of the first commonly swapped turbo 4 cylinders. They even made a kit car based around it that's sold all over the world.
@fl_atv_riders4455 right. But the reason a 4 cylinder turbo swap into a ford truck makes sense is the SVO mustangs. And the ecoboost is just the next turbo 4 in the line uo.
I was hoping this was the 3.5 EcoBoost engine, you can get 500 at the crank with nothing but a tune and an intercooler right now. Still a sweet, clean build here though!
We love our 2016 explorer sport with the 3.5 twin turbo! I also had assumed that was what he used. I'm watching odd swaps because I really want to put something modern, but different than everyone else into my 1956 Plymouth Savoy. It has a flathead straight 6 in it, but it's very small, I can do a v6 or a smallish v8 without modding the firewall and fenders. Since it's a chrysler product, I have thought about doing a forced induction 3.6l pentastar
Or... I've thought about doing an old-school 471 roots blower, or maybe an Eaton m62 with a custom intake and some kind of adapted throttle body injection. Added to the 1956 original 230 cu in flathead six inline.
The original engine redlines at about 4000-4200rpm. There isn't much I can do to remedy that. My v6 2018 ram 1500 redlines at nearly 7k. It's 305hp NA... RIPP makes a centrifugal supercharger that gets this v6 to 495hp plus. Of course that then means we need a new rear end, driveshaft, transmission, etc. Lol.
The 2.7 and 3.5 are great with a tune. We went with the 2.3l as we were going for the ultimate daily driver. Im sure we will have one dropped into something soon and will make some content. We have a new project thats getting another 2.3l
