I was playing lead guitar in several bands for 21 years total. I have spend around 12500 DM (that was roughly $7000 back then) over the years but we never made a living out of it. It was just a hobby. Being a professional has some serious drawbacks. Being on tour means sleeping in a different hotel room each night, being on the road for hours each day and unless you got an army of roadies you have to pack all the stuff until deep into the night after playing your butt off for 2 hours. I did that a couple of times and I hated it (not the cheering audience of course). Regardless, after all it was the best time of my life. I am 63 now and all what's left are memories but I don't want to miss them . :) To make a long story short: Do it by all means but don't have your expectations too high or reality might bite you in the ass.

It's quite difficult in the United Kingdom. I have been trying to get another band together for over a year. The drummer moved away and then the bassist decided to retire. Since then I have met up with a few folks but the attitude has been quite negative. I even faced snobbery for not having a Fender Strat. I have, I just didn't take it that time. It is also really difficult finding places to practice. Even then it is difficult to find local venues to play, even for free. The expectation is that your band is a live jukebox able to play anything note perfect. Of course I like to do covers, but I like to work out new arrangements that fit the band. I like to do original material too, but many new musicians reject the idea. Good musicians are serious and want to get paid. Newcomers sometimes still expect to get paid but struggle to put in the hours to get better. One tip I have share. If you want to join a band or perform live then start practicing standing up. You will be shocked how difficult it is to play standing when you are accustomed to practicing sitting or slouching. Oh! Unless you are a drummer of course.

I'm worried about finding good people to play with . . . people who not only want to play the same music as me and are good at it, but are also nice people to hang out with. I don't wanna be stuck with people I don't like, lol. I also like to write music and want to find someone who would be a good collaborator. I want to be in a band sooo bad but I'm picky with people cuz I just want to hang around nice and encouraging people
@SadieAliza
@SadieAliza 4 месяца назад
I understand, but you won't have to be stuck with them. Shuffle through and give people a chance, if they weren't a fit move to the next ones. You would only know if a band works out only if you try because musicians have layers lol. Good luck!

Sorry about the mistake at @4:14 guys! Please see below the pros and cons displayed correctly: Neewer 5600 k usb - $47 Pros: cheap price lightweight has colored filters takes little space Cons: low quality weak light not well balanced USB port (requires adapter) Neewer 480 LED - $247 Pros: good material strong light easy set up well balanced higher height straight to plug battery optional white/yellow light mix Cons: expensive heavy takes bigger space no colored filters

Looks like the comparison at 4:11 got accidentally duplicated and is only for the 480 LED! 🥲 My guess is the 480s also have higher quality LEDs in them, so you get a better quality of light for nicer skin tones, etc, which is another pro! If you like adding color to your scenes (and ready to invest in more lights), then I find something like the Neewer 660 RGB to be a lot more useful/versatile (but also more expensive), as you're able to dial in the exact color you want instead of having to rely on gels or those little color filters. Plus, they're also bi-color like the 480, so you can accomplish a lot with them! I love buying bi-color lights, because it gives me the option of matching/supplementing a warmer tungsten bulb (closer to the 3200K range), or trying to match/supplement daylight in the 5600K range :) Also, if you look for "Neewer softbox 480," you'll find some handy collapsible softboxes for those panels. They help to soften the lights and make it more pleasing on your subject, if you're shooting people. I've gone through tons of lights before, and have personally owned the 480s, so I thought I'd throw in some helpful tips based on my experience with them. Great video! 🙂

I've been in too many bands because I've been searching for musicians who have their act together. I've been looking for musicians who push themselves and challenge themselves to be their best. It's nearly impossible. What I DID find was extraordinary musicians in various countries who are interested in recording and collaborating on projects. I think we're in an age of multimedia, while the old times of bands like Mötley Crüe and KISS are ancient history. Local bands are fine, but the venues will probably only have 80 people coming out to see a local band.

I was a music major. What I learned was if you want to perform then you need to practice in front of a live audience. My recitals were graded, yes graded. This is where you learn a song or piece and know it backwards and forwards. This helps in performing. Then it is how to work with the sound system, the mic and so on. Have fun with music and it will pour out of you. Go have a chance@

I was actually lucky enough to have one of my fav local grunge bands ask me to try out as their new rythm guitarist, I after I sent them my demo and jammed with them, they took me in. This is great cause none of my main friends play instruments. I think I got here through consistent networking and posting my riffs/songs on instagram

What if there no scene and you know that your town will be predominantly against any heavy music. There’s not a single venue that you know of to play in either, bar, clubs, backyards, under bridges. Nothing. Honest question should I just wait till I’m old enough to move to a city with a handful of bands or a scene?
@SadieAliza
@SadieAliza 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for this question. I lived in the same type of city where music was banned for the most part (religious extremism). I am inspired to make a video on this but short answer: perform on the internet as much as you can like online open mic, IG live, TikTok... And find like minded people in your own town to form a band. Even if it has to be a secret one for now. And yes! Make a plan and leave your hometown. It will help you grow immensely! Until then, keep working on your skills. I'm rooting for you! :)

This is a great video! Love how motivating it is. One thing I will say though (as a guitarist for a rock jam band myself), you cannot just go into a band immediately and learn the instrument at the same time. You really should have about a year of experience with your main instrument (and maybe others). If you lack this experience, an issue may arise where your bandmates want to play more technical and advanced things, but you are be unable due to a skill gap. Also make sure your band is all on the same page about what you want to play because if half the band are country fans and half the band are Slipknot fans, there will likely be some arguments. Basically, what I'm saying is its ok to be a beginner, just make sure your band matches your skill or it may get awkward pretty quick. Love it!
