I'm an addict for 20 years initially gambling. I stopped that for a long time only to find alcohol. Both cost me in different ways. All the while highly functional, and I don't look like an addict at all. The emotional pain however has been monumental. I wish I had this advice much earlier, but this video certainly helps.

Dr. Steven, I recently printed the .pdf & it's by my bedside. Have read, marked up, & shared several times: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4553654/ The thin line between Mental & Physical Relapse hits home, as does honesty, bargaining, and learning to be "comfortable with being uncomfortable." That's a good one; I've practiced it, with varying consistency. Got a call from my HS best friend's son this morning, that his dad died. My Mental went to Physical in 15 minutes. This can and does happen. Please do live streams on YT. It's the only social media many of us do. I've been to 1000+ AA meetings, 3 tenuous and/or negligent sponsors, therapists (hit or miss), nothing registers except sound literature from qualified people. Best to you, Paul

Thank you for this link, it gives me some new reading material.. I just made the slip back into pornography. My hope is it's just a quick slip and not turn into a full blown relapse. I used to attend 12-Step meetings but a couple years ago. In the back of my mind I thought about calling people from the group but neglected to do so. Planning to call some of them today. Currently I'm writing about my experience on my website. It's not exactly working the steps but it is helping me get the junk out of my mind. Hope you been doing well since posting here @p1nesap

Dr. Steven Melemis is the most powerful and effective addiction therapist I have ever known. Unfortunately, he treats only alcohol addiction, as far as I know. I learnt so much from him, even though my choice of drug is different. I can only imagine if he was treating other addictions, how good he was gonna be. Thanks anyways, for sharing your invaluable knowledge so easily and for FREE.

Thank you so much Dr. Steven Melemis for this video, brief, concise and easy to understand by all people from all walks of life. I am working at the Parole and probation Administration , Philippines and we are currently developing programs for probationers with substance abuse problems and this presentation would be a big help in making them understand relapse. How do I request permission to present this to my fellow officers and also to our probationers?

Don't know what to do. An adult son came to stay with me for some time after rehab. That was actually third visit to rehab since the end of last year. Until then I had no idea he was addicted to alcohol as he lived several thousand miles away from me. Everything was good for approximately 3.5 weeks, and then I was shocked to discover he started drinking secretly. Yes, he relapsed. I started reading and watching videos about relapses, withdrawals, etc. as I knew nothing about all of this. It was sneak drinking. I kept finding bottles hidden in most incredible places. It turned into a nightmare for me. He refused to seek medical help and was trying to taper off with my help. At some point it got Very bad, then it got better and when I became hopeful, I started finding bottles again. I stopped sleeping. I can't believe how sneaky he is and how he kept making a fool out of me - he kept promising that he would stop, but he didn't. Based on the number of bottles of vodka and cans of beer I found he consumed at least 32 liters of vodka and 45 liters of beer during 2 months. I can't believe he was able to do it secretly in my house. Also, on top of that I took away from him several bottles I found in crazy spots before he opened them. He refuses to see a doctor. He is sleeping a lot. He says he is not drinking now, but he looked strange in the evening yesterday and today. I can't trust him anymore and think he has alcohol hidden somеwhere. Do you guys think that after he consumed this insane amount of alcohol, there is a chance that his brain can recover?
