A library of performances by the Greatest Entertainer of the 20th century, Sammy Davis, Jr. So often today variety artists are forgotten. Amazing music performance are cut from classic tv shows that appear on retro stations due to thinking younger audiences will be turned off by older songs, or because of the expense of gaining the rights to the songs. Even a talented quadruple-threat like Sammy Davis, Jr is being forgotten because his performances aren't widely shared. The only purpose of this channel is to provide a space for the next generation to learn about this talented man through his 60-year body of work. I do not profit from this page in anyway.
1st off how does this only have 5 comments? Came for Francis . Sammy and the count are also great . How bout “ good morning world “ WillieB. I don’t know if I time in the last century we went from such a high in talent and music to the lowest of lows were at today in the music world. 😢
Greg Morris' character appears disgruntled, embittered and attacking in a fairy tale depiction of racial harmony and support from all in the environment. Writing which blames the victim's character and poor attitude. Greg Morris' "scary" character depicting an empowered black man who revels in hate and rejects love. As if in 1963, when this episode was broadcast, Jim Crow laws were not being strictly enforced and maintained through violence or by any other means. Bloody Sunday, the march held in Selma, Alabama, was in 1965. Nightly images of beating, violence, murder of civil rights activists being broadcast nightly on the news. In fact Isabelle Cooley, who plays Sammy Davis' wife, was hounded out of the profession for her support for the civil rights movement.
Not only are these two legends articulate and intelligent, then they get on stage and are completely brilliant, we will never see the likes of people with this caliber of talent in our lifetime
I WAS AN ENGINEER ON THE BISHOP SHOW AND IT WAS THE HAPPIEST YEARS OF MY LIFE!! JOEY WAS A VERY GENEROUS PERSON!! WHEN WE WENT OUT ON STRIKE HE GAVE EVERY ENGINEER ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS!! MY MONTHLY RENT THEN WAS $105.00 !! REGIS WAS A VERY CARRING PERSON !! I KEPT IN TOUCH WITH BOTH JOEY AND REGIS LOG AFTER THE SHOW ENDED !! I HAVE SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES THAT I THINK ABOUT ALL MOST EVERYDAY !!
I remember this exact episode and have thought about it over the years. I was a young teen and thought Joey was cooler than Johnny. To me there weren’t many adults that were with it but Sammy sure was!
First broadcast on October 2, 1963, "Allie" from ABC-TV's "BEN CASEY" delivers a grand medical dramatic episode with guest star, Sammy Davis, Jr., who plays a Baseball player whose right eye was hit by a Baseball. This pareilels Davis, Jr's real life experience with the loss of one of his eyes during an auto accident some years earlier. Greg Morris, who later became an effective part of The IMF Team on CBS's "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE" (1966-1973), guest stars as a blunt, humorless medical assistant, with a clip on his shoulder. Leo Penn, father of actor Sean Penn, directed this episode.
She has Sammy almost bouncing off that seat. I don't blame him that Carmen is a major vocalist one of my favorites. I just love the interpretation she brings to every song she sings. She's such a great vocal storyteller
Listening and watching this on 14/05/24 Israel’s 76th Independence Day is cathartic on this more than sombre occasion due to the atrocity inflicted upon us on 7/10/23 by a marauding heinous entity called Hamas. A Jew who went by the name of Irving Berlin having escaped with his family similar outrage in another land brought happiness and joy to a nation through his genius talent of words and music. May “Blue Skies” prevail through these very dark days.
DON'T FORGET EVERYONE WHEN YOUR WATCHING DISNEY'S " SNOW WHITE" ON VIDEO, VHS, DVD, BLU RAY OR ANY ON LINE WAY WITH YOUR KIDS OR GRAND CHILDREN UNCLE MIKE DOUGLAS WAS THE VOICE OF THE PRINCE. THAT ALONE MAKES MIKE DOUGLAS LAST FOREVER. GOD BLESS YOU UNCLE MIKE.
Love Sammy but he like Muhammad Ali was always harboring thoughts that the White people were against black folks. Never said it outright but if your smart enough to read between the lines you see it. On the total opposite Louie and Pearl Bailey never saw color. When Sammy talks down Bob Hope who gave up every Christmas to be with out guys over in a war weather you agree with the war or not Bob Was there. I happen to know in many of these countries Bob went to the population there did not like African Americans and the performers were in harm's way there enough without adding this racial hate "right or wrong" adding to more heightened security danger. Sadely Samny tried to talk down Louie's manager down who was white and saying all the bills were paid but Sammy himself died broke because he was a gambler and a drug addict. When he died Sammy's wife had no respect for her own husband she had the undertaker tak his fake eye out and she sold it. Talk about disgrace's Sammy should have started at home. God bless Uncle Mike and LOUIE who was so nice to me I'll never forget him.
MY AUNT DOTTIE WAS LIASON FOR MIKE DOUGLAS BETWEEN WESTINGHOUSE AND GROUP W PRODUCTIONS FOR 30 YEARS AND MIKE BECAME LIKE A UNCLE TO ME AND ALLOWED ME TO MEET 100'S OF CELEBRITIES AND HAVE PICTURES WITH THEM INCLUDING JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO, THE ORIGINAL 5TH DIMENSION AND THIS SO WONDERFUL MAN LOUIE ARMSTRONG. WHEN MY FRIENDS WALK IN MY DEN THEY GO TO LOUIE AND ME AND KNOW WHO HE IS AND THE FIRST WORDS ARE THATS THE HELLO DOLLY GUY. UNCLE MIKE HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN UNDERRATED BUT HE WAS THE NICEST AND MOST TALENTED TALK/VARIETY SHOW HOST EVER. PEOPLE SAT NEXT TO HIM AND FOUND HOW WONDERFUL AND NICE HE WAS. LOUIE HAD BEEN SICK AND SO CALLED TV BIG WIGS FORGOT ABOUT JIM BUT NOT UNCLE MIKE WHO BOOKED HIM NOT ONLY ON HIS SHOW BUT AS HIS COHOST FOR THE WHOLE WEEK. GOD BLESS UNCLE MIKE DOUGLAS.
Joey Bishop was a talented monologist (probably approaching the level of Jack Paar or Johnny Carson in ability). He had a smart (for the time) humor, but had a self-defeating knack regarding likability within the industry.
The Greatest Entertainer in the Whole World, we all felt like we knew him, even though we didn't. Sammy was The Most Wonderful Human Being , and Man, you will be very Sadly Missed Sammy, We all Love you xxx ❤️ 💙 💜 💖
