Rivi_ra Tr_te Cre_he Whis_ey D__k_ns I always struggle with the NY mini crosswords in general since I don't understand a lot of the stuff to do with American culture/history but I simply don't understnad how he's unable to fill the blanks on some of these. Whiskey is inexcusable. Even if you don't know Riveriera or Trite you should be able to tell there are vowels there - especially considering English is his first language. At one point he had Di__k_ns and still didnt see Dickens. Unless I'm mistaken I thought Charles Dickens was pretty well-known throughout the English speaking world that even if you can't name a book off the top of your head you'd at least know of him especially given the context of novelist. This video single-handley made me lose fate in his intelligence and capacity. This is utterly undefendable.
YOU DONT NEED TO KNOW ANY OF THESE JUST BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH. ITS FUCKING DICKENS NOT THAT I KNOW WHO THAT IS BUT A "K" IN THE MIDDLE OF A WORD IS VERY LIKELY TO HAVE A C BEFORE IT. LETS NOT TALK ABOUT WHIS*EY FFS
i've just lived my life normally and all this info has basically fallen into my head accidentally without me doing anything. it's not like i've ever read oliver twist or been to the riviera. how do you somehow avoid learning these kinds of things? i genuinely don't get it. it's not like he's from a different culture or language.
He’s American which could contribute to avoiding both of those bits of information, Americans rarely care about the finer details of geography or history outside their country. Not getting the word trite, I don’t have any explanation for.
@@mpgodjrit is. The French Riviera is a place people go on holidays to. Also super had Riv-ra, not many English words end with ra and another country’s name was in the hint.
@@mpgodjr it genuinely kind of is. When you have half of the letters in a word, there's only so many words that fit in that place, and with the context provided, this 99% results in you knowing what word fits without knowing it was the answer to that question. You don't need to know what "Mark's mark" is to realize that "whis_ey" should be whiskey, or that a place in france is riviera to get "rivi_ra". I wouldn't get nearly as many crosswords completed without this, since I'm also European and a lot of stuff nyt puts into their games is based on american culture.
